Introduction

Resistance to high temperatures, mini-mal residue formation, long relubrica-tion intervals – these are the demand-ing requirements of the glass industry, and they are fully met by lubricantsfrom Klüber. Klüber offers a range ofspecial lubricants that are optimallysuited to your specific applications. They comprise oils, greases, pastesand bonded coatings.

Along with our products, we offercomprehensive service:

❑ Regular visits and consulting❑ Customised lubricant selection❑ Chemical analyses❑ Inspection of bearings and gears❑ Training on lubricants and

lubrication technology❑ Cost-benefit analyses❑ Highly qualified specialists❑ Availability worldwide

In addition to our know-how in thedevelopment of lubricants, we offer our customers tests and analyses, which are performed at our inhousemechano-dynamic testing department.

A member of the internationalFreudenberg group since 1966, wehave been present in the market placewith our high-quality special lubricantsfor almost 70 years.

The cooperation between our 26 sub-sidiaries, 14 production plants andmore than 1000 employees worldwideensures our position as market leader. We use carefully selected raw materi-als and up-to-date facilities, employstringent compliance tests (chemicalanalyses, mechano-dynamic tests) andhave long-standing practical experi-ence, which guarantees our productsalways feature maximum quality.

Since we attach great importance toenvironmental aspects, we focus onlubricants of both high ecological andeconomic value. All European Klüberactivities, for example in Austria, Bel-gium, Italy and Spain, are certified toDIN ISO 9000 and validated accordingto EMAS. Klüber is Munich’s first com-pany to be validated according to theEC eco-audit directive and employs aglobal environmental managementpolicy.

The glass industry is one of our part-ners whom we provide with tailormadelubricants and the associated services.

In cooperation with the machine manu-facturers, we develop innovative solu-tions aiming at a further optimisationand reduction of lubricant quantities.

Different synthetic base oils areselected and combined to attain spe-cial product characteristics, such aslong service life, high thermal stabilityand reduced formation of residues.

With the use of Klüber lubricants youare making an active contribution tothe environmental managementscheme of your company.

Klübersynth HM 2 series

For this application, Klüber has devel-oped the Klübersynth HM 2 series ofhigh temperature oils, which have athermal resistance surpassing that ofconventional mineral oils as well as ofmost of today’s synthetic oils from ourcompetitors. Since these oils are avail-able in various viscosity grades, theycan also be used in regions where tem-peratures vary strongly or that are per-manently exposed to extreme climaticconditions.

Thermogravimetric analysis tests includ-ing several competing oils used in theseapplications showed that the evapora-tion loss of e.g. Klübersynth HM 2-220is very low at an operating temperatureof 180 °C*. This means that the oilretains its lubricity much longer thanothers, enabling extension of relubrica-tion intervals.

The use of Klübersynth HM 2-… offersnumerous benefits, which takentogether may significantly reduce youroperating costs:

❑ Longer relubrication intervals due tolow evaporation

❑ Less cleaning required due to lowresidue formation

❑ Lower disposal costs due to lowerconsumption

❑ Lower expenses for logistics due to reduced handling and optimisedstockkeeping

❑ Higher reliability and consequentlyless extraordinary machine down-times

❑ Clean machine environment andreduced toxicological exposure ofstaff

❑ Positive contribution to environmen-tal management

* Service temperatures are guide values which depend on the lubricant’s composition, theintended use and the application method. Lubricants change their consistency, apparentdynamic viscosity or viscosity depending on the mechano-dynamical loads, time, pressure and temperature. These changes in product characteristics may affect the function of acomponent.

Neck ring mechanism and mould holder

Klübersynth HM 2-220

Because of the difficult access to these components, centralised lubrication is in many cases not possible.Consequently, the lubricating nipples need to be oiledmanually by means of a lubricating gun at regular intervals.

Since thermal loads are very high, we recommend the useof Klübersynth HM 2-220.

At operating temperatures above 130°C* the use of specialhigh-temperature greases offers better protection against oilcracking and consequent gear failures.

Applicationsfor special lubricants in the environment of IS machines

Bearings in air circulators and exhaust air fans of annealing furnaces

PETAMO GHY 133 N or STABURAGS N 12 MF

These bearings are subjected to high thermal stress and wear. We therefore recommend relubricationby means of our high-temperature lubricating grease for rolling bearings PETAMO GHY 133 N or bySTABURAGS N 12 MF, which contains solid lubricants ensuring added reliability through emergencyrunning properties at elevated operating temperatures.

Bearings in conveyor and cross beltsand the transfer corner

Klübertemp HM 83-402

Because of the extreme levels of radiated heat from hot glasscontainers, deep groove ball bearings lubricated by a lithiumsimple grease are very liable to failure. We recommend lubrica-tion of bearings in conveyor and cross belts by our fully syn-thetic high-temperature grease Klübertemp HM 83-402, whichcan be used at operating temperatures up to 250°C*.

Conveyor belt chain

SYNTHESCO

Some glass factories use inverted-tooth chains, whichsuffer extraordinary wear when not lubricated. To min-imise friction between the chain links, we recommendlubrication of the chain by our high-temperature oilSYNTHESCO.
