Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!" so why not just party with gamut ofcolors this season. Color trends for spring / summer 2013. The hues of clothing andaccessories are instrumental in shaping the mood of the season. From earthy andnatural to vibrant primaries, spring will leave you optimistic. Here are the spring /

summer colors to look out for.

Spring 2012 may only have just dawned and fall / winter 2012remains a distant speck on the horizon, but the fashion industryhas already focussed its gaze on a fashion season that’s still a

year away:spring / summer 2013.

Page 15: Glamcob (April 2013 Issue)

Design Options see Earth Daze as a spring2013 fashion trend that continues on fromthe 1960s and tribal fashion statements ofspring 2012; Burnt orange and brown tonesof bewilderment and bemuse combinepeaceful ideas and 1960's flair. Deep bur-gundy and intense blue shades of Provencaland unadorned add a touch of delicacy ona canvas of timeless artistry. Artful with ac-cents of agility and civilisation. The keydetails are brocade, velvet, paisley andtribal prints, while the associated colors forspring 2013 are as follows

The former fashion trend might have beendubbed Earth Daze by Design Options, butit’s Natural Expression that actually hasstrong earthy colors.Earthy tones of slate grey and rustic oliveindicate notions of loveliness on a backdropof silk georgette. Cornflower blue and tealhues of gracious debutante and femme fa-tale delicately draw attention to smoky ac-cents.Particular and naturally expressive. The key details for Natural Expression aremetallic linen and rayon jersey, while theseare the associated colors

Let’s face it: Natural Expression and EarthDaze are both rather subdued interpretationsof spring / summer 2013. And if spring / sum-mer seasons are about anything, it’s loudcolours – hence Design Options’ PrimaryCircle fashion trend.Energetic and striking tones of orange ex-ude deliberation and pragmatic intention.Grass green hues of iridescence fuse melodi-cally with cherry red undertones creating theperfect unification. The principal elements of unification. The key fabrics of Primary Circle are bam-boo jersey and patent leather, while thetrend’s colors are as follows

texures and themes

Cosmic Transformation picksup on a sci-fi and futurism

vibe with light and darkcolours along with textured

cloth drawing inspirationform the complexities of

space’s composition.

Aquatic Transformation lookscloser to home for a look

inspired by “the ocean [and] anunderwater world of darknesspunctuated by bright, unusual

forms reflecting light andmovement.”

There are the spring 2013 colour trends, and then there arethe textures and patterns that will go a long way to defining the

season’s wardrobe. SpinExpo, a trade show dedicated to the thesorts of fibres and fabrics that end up defining many a trend, havereleased their interpretation of spring / summer 2013's direction.

Based on the fibre, yarn and knits being produced, SpinExpohave highlighted four men’s and women’s themes.

Cultural Transformation is inspiredby the same softness that has led torevival of the likes of 1950s fashion.

More so, though, it’s inspired by“the ideals and beauty of the art

world, from performance to paintingand literature, cultural influences

offer delicacy, subtlety and refinedelegance.”

Nomadic transformation sees a trendinspired not by space, sea or land,

but rather the people who inhabit it.Beginning where the tribal fashiontrend left off, it’s a look inspired by

the “surviving traditions and obscurecultures” of the world’s artisans.

..with Sanjay Dutt

Page 25: Glamcob (April 2013 Issue)

When did you first get into films? It’s been good ten years journey till now.

What made you turn towards filmmak-ing from totally different field of masscomm.?I wanted to be associated with movies insome way or the other since my child-hood. Mass comm. was just a part of thejourney to reach Bollywood.

What and when was your first action ofpursuing a filmmaking career after masscomm.?When I came to know Shivaji Productionsof South India (of Shivaji Ganesan fame)are wanting to venture into Bollywood, Iapproached them & narrated the story Ihad written ‘Delhi Heights’.

Page 26: Glamcob (April 2013 Issue)

How did you get the idea to write the script for "Delhi Heights"?The idea was shaping up inside my head for long, it was an amalgamation ofbits and pieces of our own lives, my friends and inspired by lots of events inthe past. The battle of two competitive companies which creeps into a couple’slife where they work, was the basic plot.

There were rumours that "Zila Ghaziabad" was previously named as"Bulandshehar Cops". Is it true and what made you change the name?I haven’t heard about it yet. They are pure rumours. This title I had regis-tered long back. When I met Vinay Sharma the writer and when he narratedthe story it fitted very much into the scheme of things befitting the title ZilaGhaziabad.

Page 27: Glamcob (April 2013 Issue)

"Zila Ghaziabad" was a multi-starrer film. How was experience work-ing with the stars like Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi and Vivek Oberoi?Yes, it was a multi-starrer and to work with top-notch actors of Bollywoodall together in a single movie was an experience of a lifetime. I am notsure whether I will ever get an opportunity to work with so many starstogether in the near future. Arshad Warsi was the back bone of ZilaGhaziabad, he was the first one to sign and then the rest cast followed,he has been extremely helpful in every aspect of the movie with his vastexperience. Vivek also did his work earnestly as the script required himto do. Working with Sanju Sir was a dream come true. It is unfortunatethat Zila Ghaziabad remains the last movie before he proceeds to com-plete his rest of the imprisonment sentence.

Page 28: Glamcob (April 2013 Issue)

How would you define the actual role that a di-rector is supposed to fill?Director has the artistic vision of the entirescript which he visualizes the way it has to beportrayed on the screen for the audience. Forwhich he uses technicians like cinematogra-phers, art directors, creative directors, loadsof assistants etc.

What limitations does a movie director have, inexample can he also work as an editor or cin-ematographer as well as a director on a film?An intelligent director will have the knowledgeabout entire aspect of film making like editing, cinematography etc.

Relatively how hard is it to "make it" inbollywood, and what skills help this?I am in this industry without any mentor, onlyyour creativity can make you sustain in the in-dustry for long.

What are some qualities in yourself and othersthat make one suitable for film directing?Patience, perseverance, creative and futuristic.

What's the best advice or motivational wordsyou could give someone new to filmmaking?Do not compromise on your creativity.

Are there any future projects that you would liketo share with us?Meerut Junction. And I’m starting my produc-tion house ANAND KUMAR PRODUCTIONSwhere I will do 3 films in first phase.

FRUITARIAN !!

This is the time of year where thereare a ton of healthy fresh fruits andvegetables in season and whenthey’re in season that means they arecheaper and tastier. Some of theseveggies include asparagus, broccoli, spinach, green beans and much, much more. In addition to thoseveggies are fruits such asstrawberries, oranges, pineappleand again so many more. Then, why not just startexperimenting with fruit salad..?

Fruit salad are not only delicious andrefreshing, they are also excellent sourcesof essential nutrients. Fruit containsnatural sugars and essential vitamins andminerals including fiber, which helps withdigestion. Eating a fruit salad daily canbolster your immune system, preventdiseases, reduce your risk of obesity andimprove overall health.

The best thing about fruit salad is that thereis really no limit to the kind of fruit saladyou can make, though keep in mind thatthe nutritional content always changesdepending on what ingredients you include.

Adding things like honey, skim milk, cottagecheese, yogurt and other foods can increasethe nutritional content of a fruit salad andimprove taste. Frozen fruit salads can alsobe quite delicious, and they essentiallyretain all the same nutrients as non-frozenfruit.

A diet with salads and fruits can help youlose weight without feeling too hungrybecause fruits and vegetables are mostlylow in calories, and high in fillingcomponents such as water and dietary fiber,

So, evidently these are one of the mosthealthy and natural foods in existence andthere are thousands of different types offruits available to eat, all of which provideus with strong health benefits.

packabs diet6

Let’s bust another myth straight from the start.Let me ask you a question?

What, do you think, is a six pack abs diet?“The six pack diet is just a healthy, balanced diet!”Do you really believe that there are magic foods or

supplements that are specifically designed forsix pack abs? No, there are not.

The six pack diet is just a healthy, balanced diet, that every respected nutritionist will always recommend

to any relatively healthy individual. So, the real question is what is a healthy, balanced diet that benefits your body more than any

new diet fad on the market? Be patient grasshopper. I will explain it all. Read on and start implementing this stuff. BTW:

Did you start running yet?OK, let’s hop to the 10 commandments of six pack abs diet:

Rachit Kushwaha’s

fitness

32 GLAMCOB APRIL 2013

Page 33: Glamcob (April 2013 Issue)

Eat a healthy, bal-

anced diet

Understand portion

control

Don’t eat too much

sugar and fat

Drink plenty of water

Eat breakfast as of-

ten as possible

Eat plenty of fruits

and vegetables

Fall in love with eat-

ing

Follow thefood pyramid. The food pyramidconcept has been around for a longtime, but people don’t pay attentionto food pyramid because they alwayslook for new diet gimmicks. It isscientifically proven way of eating thatensures balanced nutrition and healthybody and mind. Why would I want to recommend youanything else but a healthy balanceddiet? It doesn’t matter what country do youlive, and what foods are prevalent inyour family. If you are reading this, you’re using The Internet, and if youhave The Internet, you can probablybuy cottage cheese or rice, where youlive. And no, you don’t have to eat tuna orprime cut steak every day. That’sunrealistic, often unhealthy and darnexpensive. When I grew up in a formercommunist country, I oftencomplained at scarcity of meat andprotein supplements. We just didn’thave that kind of stuff. And you knowwhat? Some guys still managed to getvery fit and ripped. And they did itwithout salmon, without whey proteinpowders and without steroids. They just eat whatever was availableand worked out like crazy. That’s it.For me to recommend, some kind ofmagic diet, with emphasis on certainkinds of food, would be following adiet fad. Diet fads suck big time andare unrealistic and UNHEALTHY!The world doesn’t work that way. Youcan basically eat anything you want,as long as you won’t overdo it withthe amount of calories you put in yourbody. So don’t freak out when your grandma

cooks you chicken and dumplings thathave more fat than oil in Saudi Arabia.Don’t puke. Say a wonderful thankyou to your grandma, give her a kiss, and eat that food like there is notomorrow.Stick to the portion control (one mealabout size of your fist). Try to skipmost of the fat. And go for a nice 30min cardio workout afterwords. Youwill be happy, your grandma will behappy. And your abs will beunaffected.(Reminder: Crunches are justadditional exercises. Cardio andGlobal Lifts are the real foundationand absolutely necessary if you wantVISIBLE abs).

Portion controlsimply means, you don’t eat too muchin one meal. Approximately size ofyour fist (more or less), it’s how muchfood you really need to function. Thisrule is designed to really control theamount of calories you throw intoyour mouth. But don’t freak out about this either.I said approximately fist size meal, notexactly fist size meal. Please don’t usethe ruler to measure your bakedpotato. I believe some diet freaks willdo just that. Don’t be one of them.

This iscommon sense. It’s 2011 andeverybody that has a bookstore or theInternet in town knows, that sugar andfat have really highest calories and itwould be counter productive to runand lift only to deliver too manycalories from food to see your hard

is wasted in vain. To do that it’s justplain stupid.

Six glasses a day to be more specific.Try to drink more water and lesscarbonated, sugar loaded drinks likecoke etc. Again, don’t go extremehere. Few sodas here and there won’tmake any difference.

T r ynot to skip breakfast too often. Whenyou eat your breakfast you willbasically control your next meal whichis lunch in most cases. It works likethis. No breakfast-junk food snacks tosurvive to lunch-big, fatty lunch tocompensate for not eating earlier.Every time you skip breakfast yourbody will punish you by desiring fastquick fixes to hunger. And you willfix it fast with junk food (it’s availableeverywhere), because you can’tnegotiate with your hunger.

This isjust plain, healthy advice. Talkingabout benefits of fruits and vegetablesis beyond the scope of this blog. Butthey are the healthiest foods inexistence. period.

For six pack abs enjoy alldifferent kinds of foods, don’t countcalories and have fun eating. Food isgood for you. Food is good for yoursix pack. Food is good for your life.

Some think money brings the ultimate success, if youare rich you are successful, but our perception regard-

ing success is different. We think success is defined bywhat is your presence even after you leave this world. For us our success would be when we are not here inthis world and people remember us by our songs andour music. Bands like Metallica, Dream theatre, pink

Floyd arelegends, and they will be remembered even ifthey are not present physically. Even our Indian Bands– Indian Ocean, Parikrama, Indus, Creed would remain

in hearts of people forever.

Page 38: Glamcob (April 2013 Issue)

Tell about your band? (Include all bandmembers and instruments played.)

SwarAntar does not define itself by anyparticular kind of genre. We believe in makingindependent and soulful music through whichwe can connect ourselves with the audience.

Their unique style of collaborating old schoolclassic rock with traditional Indian classical is

one of its kind in the music scene. All of itsaccomplished members are from alternate

places with incommensurable musical mindsthat add a different texture to the music.

There are seven members in the band as ofnow and we start it off with our Drummersimply because he doesn’t get his share of

fame, always behind in the pictures and rarelyseen in our live videos, so we decided to give

him some footage here. Jokes apart he isprobably the only lefty drummer in the Delhimusic circuit and his unique drumming style

has helped the band in bringing morevariations to the overall sound. So can we

have some drum rolls for Divesh.

Next up is Pranav on Percussions, he’s aSangeet Visharath in Tabla. Besides the Tabla

he fills up the sound of SwarAntar with awhole lot of percussion instruments (I think

11 of them Phew!)

Now we have Amlan Bhargav on the guitars. He is so to say the tone of the band as hemostly brings out the compositions of the

band. For someone who had started playingguitars since the age of 16, Amlan has quickly

established himself as one of the emergingguitarist in the Delhi music circuit with his

unique style of mixing blues and classic rockwith Indian classical.

Vineet, one of the founding members of theband serves as a backbone with his keyboards.By far the laziest of the lot, he exerts hisstored energy in the right direction whenneeded during the performances. He alsolends a depth touch to the sound of the bandwith his harmonizing vocals.

Divesh Singh On Bass , self learned bassistwith a unique style of bass grooves

Mohit is specialized in HindustaniClassical(Vocal) from the Gandharva Mahavidyalayaof Delhi. His unparalleled vocal texturedistinguishes him from other classical singers. He has beenbestowed with several stateand national awards and hisprofessional workexperience in thefield of music andperforming arts spansacross 15 years. He hasrecently been awarded the best zonal vocalistby Chief Minister Shiela Dixit for Delhi in theyear 2012.

Mayur Hazarika , latest addition to the lineupand the final one Influenced from classic rockand Alternative rock , Mayur specializes inhigh scale vocals ,he has been performingwith different bands and as a solo artist forquite a long time now. “He is the sexiestmember in the Band “quoted by MayurHazarika himself.

How it all started? I mean, how youget the idea for creating the band? This is really an interesting onebecause even now, we haven’t reallyfigured out how SwarAntar came intoexistence. I guess all it took was arandom jam in the music society ofour college, and we all knew then andthere that something big was comingup. Since then we just kept playingour music and the rest took its naturalcourse.

Do the people back at home supportyou guys?Everything that SwarAntar hasachieved would not have been possiblewithout the support of the friends, family and fans. There were theoccasional times where your parentsask you about the longevity in themusical field but then eventually theywould be the one supporting you themost.

How does it feel to be professionallyin a band?Tough!!!See, bands were not treated asprofession in India. But recently themindsets have changed and music hasevolved as a career. We are stilllearning, but yes we are happy forwhatever we have achieved in this 1.5years of our musical endeavor’s. Yesthe route is tough and the destinationis far, but we are still in the process oftaking one step a time.

If you guys were to describe yourselfin simple word choice..What wouldyou say?We are different neverthelesscreative..Quite relatable to peoplefrom all walks of life!

Do any of you guys have a girlfriend/ boyfriend?(I don’t know how wellthis one would turn out..)

Tricky one again! Ha-ha No, exceptDivesh all are in search of their soulmate (sounds heavy). Well it’s notabout being in a relation .We think it’sthe music with which we all have themost serious and intense relationshipand we would love to continue thatway only.

Do you guys have any other hobbiesbesides, obviously, making music? We just love travelling, checking outdifferent cultures, food and folk music(of course). Except Amlan and Diveshall are outspoken and like meeting newpeople.

Who are your music influences? As all the members are from differentparts of the country where in differentstyle of music prevails. Thus for amlanits Metallica ,Black Sabbath , DeepPurple , Pink Floyd. Mayur has classicrock Guns and Roses feel. Vineet hasCarnatic influence and of courseDream Theater (GODS of Music)quoted by him only. For Pranav andMohit Pandit Jasraj Ji, Pandit RaviShankar ji and other great mystros ofIndian classical music. But the fact thatwe have so varied influences our musichas the share and creativity of all 7 ,hence it is never a one man show forus in our compositions.

What’s your most embarrassingexperience as a band?Wouldn’t really want to disclose thatpublicly. Just think of it as our dirtylittle secret. lol

Have any of your songs beenpublished? (if so, by whom?)Not as yet.

Have you affiliated with a performancerights organization?(which one?)NOPE

What’s your music background? Doany band members belong to theMusician’s union? No.

Have you released any music yet? Ifno, then why do you wantto record andrelease your own music? (be veryhonest)We have released a music video named“Dhara” with Live mudd Productionswhich has crossed over 2,80,000+ hits.We are in talks with different studiosfrom Delhi to record out Upcoming EP“Earth”.

What are your songs about? (whatspecific themes do you cover)Our songs are mostly based on thecultural, social and environmentalissues in India. We have songs whichdo not define a particular mood or tastethe meaning are deep and are worthbringing a change.

Do you write your own songs? The lyrics are entirely handled byAmlan ,Mohit fills in with his classicalSargams.

How do you describe your music topeople? You can’t really generalize the kind ofreaction you expect from the audience. But we would only say that you won’tget the taste of our music until you seeus live.

What image do you think your musicconveys? (Do not avoid the imageissue!)Image is an issue, when we released“Dhara” a pure classical original peoplethought we can only play classical andwe are a pure classical band but if youhear” Money” we have totally changedthe image created earlier . It’s a trackwhere we have fused Rock and rollwith Indian Classical, Yes that is what

40 GLAMCOB APRIL 2013

Page 41: Glamcob (April 2013 Issue)

we are trying to do which is to createsomething different yet appealing tothe masses.

What are your immediate music careergoals?Well, for now..we want to perform asmany LIVE shows as possible as thatis the main aim, and apart from that,we’d also like to launch our EP soon!

Do you have any personal contacts inthe music business? That is what we lack as of now, wewere producing music throughindependent labels and not going to anyrecord label or brand , so we are stillbuilding contacts in the industry

Are you looking for an independentlabel deal or a major label deal?A major Label deal always give you a

tag of being associated with a brand, but we won’t mind Independent labeldeals as long as we are satisfied thatour music is in safe hands to beproduced.

What live performance experiencehave you had?A recent Gig at JRE College, GreaterNoida where we headlined their 1st

Annual Cultural Festival. As theircollege was new they were notprepared on how to organize a showfor a band , the sound requirement setc, but the crowd covered up for anyglitches we had. The crowd wasfantastic, it was a chaos, people onstage, crowd singing our songs, girlsgoing mad J . So it was a mad Gigaltogether. To add more Universityschool of Architecture where weheadlined couple of weeks back was

also fab, the feel and the atmospherejust was amazing.

How do you rate your live performanceability?Performing live is our strength; Mayurand his madness can bring any crowdto its feet. We even remember that timewhen we were rejected for a show byan organizer due to our lack of content(Videos, live performance,Recordings) to display to him to getthe show, but we were recommendedby another organizer who had seen ourprevious gigs. We performed and the1st organizer realized that the bandsounded really unique and better live.

My cousin got engaged lastmonth. I was the happiest girlat her wedding. I danced toevery tune with everybodywho wanted to dance with me.The truth is I was buzzed. Idowned an entire bottle ofwine before I put in anappearance at her wedding. That is because I was nothappy at all!I am commitment phobic. ButI have never let that stop mefrom having a good time. Iwas seeing this guy regularly, who was equally averse tocommitments. The action wehad was so good and soaddictive that we kept at it.We had made out the nightbefore my cousin’sengagement as well. Thisshould have put me in a reallygood mood, except for the factthat this guy turned out to bemy cousin’s fiancé!I hate to be the one spoilingher ‘happily ever after.’

My math professor in collegefell unexpectedly ill and wasreplaced by a really cute geek, who had just completed hisPhD. Needless to say, I fell inlove at first sight.I started staying back to asksilly question even though Idid not like math. It was notlong before he picked up onthe signals I was sending out.He was initially shy but heencouraged my advances.Within a week we starteddating. Our seemingly harmless dateswould often take a morepassionate course and leadinto a lot of making out. Hestarted inviting me over to hisapartment. We spent moreand more time together. Untilsuddenly my old professorwas back and my boyfriendhad completely disappeared!I later learned that once myprofessor was well again myso called boyfriend had leftimmediately to attend hiswedding in Lucknow.

I am a nerd. Or at leasteverybody around me thinksso. It is not that I don’t like todo fun stuff. I am just scared.Of late, being the butt of theirjokes has started to grate onmy nerves. I don’t want to besingle. But let’s face it; theguys don’t line up to date thegeeks. Anyway, at Nadia’sbachelorette, I decided toshed my inhibitions. I dressedin a red hot dress, spent acouple of hours at the parlorand hit the party feeling prettygood about myself. In an attempt to prove howcool I can be, I even indulgedin the tequila shots! After awhile I started feeling a littleheady and went up to theterrace to get some fresh air.A few minutes later I realizedI was not alone. Nadia’sfiancé, Danny was lounging onthe terrace with a bottle ofchampagne. He invited me to join him andwe got talking. I don’t knowwhat triggered it, but oneminute we were talking andthe next minute we werelocked in one hot kiss! Thekiss led to a mind blowingsession right there on theterrace top.I should technically feel badabout making out with afriend’s fiancé. But I feelrather good! Danny has calledoff the wedding and has beenwooing me ever since. Ofcourse I never give in. But agood make out session neverhurts!

Q. Last week I got drunk atmy best guy friend’s farewell. In the heat of the moment wekissed. The next day I was soembarrassed that I did noteven go to drop him at theairport. The odd bit is thateven he did not call me either.I expected him to call me oncehe had reached. He did not. Ihave not received a singletext, email or phone call fromhim in a week. I guess he wasembarrassed about the kisstoo. But now I am angry. I amnot the one who kissed him.He kissed me back as well! Sowhy avoid me? I miss him. Weused to be together all thewhile. He was the only one Icould talk to about a lot ofthings and he knows that. Ishe punishing me for kissinghim?A. Things do happen in theheat of the moment. It is okfor you both to have kissed. It is not ok for both of you toavoid talking about it. Do younotice that while he has notgotten in touch with you, youhave not taken any excessivesteps to contact him either.Write to him. Text him. Tellhim if it is all about the kiss itis not worth spoiling such abeautiful friendship over!If he does not reply even then,at least you know you tried tokeep your friendship together.Besides, the next time you getdrunk, make sure you are notkissing yet another goodfriend! Hold your drink!

Q. I come from a veryconservative family. My familywont even let me talk to boys.I never do. I am expected todress a certain way, talk acertain way. But beneath allthis good girl façade, I amreally the everyday girl. I wantto talk to boys. I want to beappreciated, touched. As oflate my desperation hasincreased. I want to make out.Go all the way! Every guy Isee, I picture myself makingout with him in differentlocations – right from thelawns of our college to theclassrooms to the terrace ofmy apartment. Then I feelguilty about it and I cry forhours. I feel completely lostand miserable. I don’t knowwhat to do.A. I do feel bad for you. It isdifficult to work against all therepressive restrictions andlead a normal life. However, here is what you need to do.You need to stop feeling guiltyabout your fantasies. Everyteenager has those. You arenot alone. Talk to your BFFabout your fantasies if needbe. Secondly, include someboys in your friend circle. It ishealthy to have friends of theopposite gender. It helps yousee boys in a new light andwill decrease the fascinationyou have with them.

Q. I am a very popular in mycollege. Girls love to go ondates with me. And I reallyenjoy all that popularity. Lastmonth we had an exchangestudent from Europe join ourcollege. He is really goodlooking. He also has a wellbuffed body. For a long time Iwas jealous of him for stealingall that attention. Last eveningwe bumped into each other atthe gym. He has very hotbody. Lean muscles, well-shaped torso, the entire deal!In the night I dreamed abouthim. We were passionatelymaking out in my room! WhenI saw him this morning, I gotinstantly turned on. I know Iam not gay! But I don’t knowhow to explain this dream orthis reaction. I don’t want tobe gay! Please help.A. You are what you are! Youcan fight it, you can go againstit, but it will make you onlymore miserable. There isnothing wrong with havingfeelings for anybody. What iswrong is hiding from it orshying away from it. It is thefear of confronting the obviouswhat makes an situation scaryor more feared than it needsto me. Accept that you havehad the dream. Acknowledgeit and you might just realizethat your reaction is more tothe dream and yourexperience from the dreamthat is causing you too feel soflushed. And that in fact youhave no romantic feelingstowards the guy at all!And even if you decided to beon the other side of the fence, look at it this way – therewould be those many guyslesser to be jealous of!

It can’t single-handedly recapture the market and bringBlackBerry to its former RIM glory, instead itsets the stage for future devices (the Q10 is acouple of months away). So, revolution or evolution? The hardware ismiles ahead of Berries of old, but you’ll have tojump over to the next page to see how it stacksup against current Androids and the iPhone.

The touchscreen revolution wasn’t equally kindto all big phone makers. Samsung and Applewere quick to spot the opportunity and gotpropelled to the top, very much at the expenseof the likes of BlackBerry and Nokia. And whilethe Finns thought the best way to turn theirfortunes around was to join forces withMicrosoft, BlackBerry is trying to stay afloat onits own. The BlackBerry Z10 heralds the rebirth of afallen leader in the smartphone market. It’s aclean break from the past with a bigtouchscreen and novel OS, but the samebusiness mentality that made it the favorite ofoffice dwellers around the world. Except, thistime BlackBerry has also added a dash offun.BlackBerry’s previous generation of touch-driven smartphones felt a lot like Nokia’s earlyattempts to knock Symbian into shape fortouchscreen. With the Z10, however, thecompany threw everything out and startedfresh. BlackBerry 10 that powers the phone is amodern operating system with a brand newgesture-based interface and support forpowerful dual-core CPUs. If you think dual-coreKrait is old news on Android, you’d be right, but the Z10 is closer to the iPhone in this regard- the OS has been optimized to run on very fewdevices (just one right now, one more on theway), allowing for maximum efficiency.ThenBlackBerry equipped the Z10 with a 4.2" WXGAscreen - slightly bigger and sharper than theiPhone 5’s retina display - but kept the packagemore compact than certain massive droids. Then came all the connectivity features, hardware ports and slots. As with any newborn platform, there will begrowing pains - sparse app market and iffymaps for one. The biggest concern is whetherthe sleek new interface will put people off (bothcurrent and new BB users). It’s fast and intuitive

The Mystical Magic of the Mountains

Every once in a while I itch to leavethe city behind me. It’s not that I donot like my life here, but sometimesI feel the need to connect withnature. I want to have my feet onsoft mud and I want to smell thegrass in the breeze. I want to openmy eyes to spectacular skies andexperience my heart fill up with alightness which cannot be defined.Above all I don’t want my eyes tolock up with a neighbor’s, no matterhow friendly. Sometimes I reallycrave to get away from people. To most, this craving might notmake any sense. But to those whohave adventure in their hearts andare guided by their curiosity, this

craving finds a home. Staying inDelhi fortunately gives me an easyaccess to the mountains. All I needto do is pack and head closer to theclouds. I am a woman. I say this simply topoint out that when I say ‘pack’ I donot necessarily mean just a backpackwhich I’ll swing on my shoulders andtake with me wherever I go. ‘Pack’to me means a bag for myself andmy husband and two bags for bothmy dogs. It’s true! Wherever I go,my dogs go with me. Picking adestination where all of us can betogether is always quite a task. On a whim we decided to travelto The Misty Mountains. To me the

name held a certain ‘Enid Blyton’appeal and I mentally added booksto the list of things I needed to pack. The resort sounded like a placewhere Famous Five would havefound a mystery to solve. I grew upreading the fantastic time theFamous Five had, to be able toexperience their fairy tale magic, even if just in name, was a temptationtoo strong to resist. We called up Madhur, the ownerof the resort and asked him if wecould get our dogs along. Theanswer was not a yes, it was a ‘whynot? The entire family is welcome!’With that kind of an answer I wouldtravel half the country to get to his

resort. Fortunately we had to drive680 kms. He advised to halt inBhimtal for the night before we setto explore the mountainous roadswhich awaited us beyond Almora. The drive through Almora andbeyond to The Misty Mountains isstraight out of a travelogue. Thereare long stretches of well tarredmountain roads with pine trees liningeither side. The road travels throughsun and shade and twists and turnsthrough the most spectacular views. Some of the roads have been builtthrough dense jungles and even inpeak summer the sunlight just abouttouched the roof of our car. Werolled down our windows and let thefreshness of the untouchedsurroundings engulf us. Our road took us through quainttowns with names like Badechinaand Dhaulachina, which alsohappened to be the landmarks to

watch out for. These little towns andvillages were surrounded with lushmango trees. Scattered on theroadside were ripe mangoes, readyto be eaten! We hadn’t even reachedthe resort yet and our little escapadewas already looking up! At Raiagar, Madhur had insistedhe send his pickup to carry us furtherup the mountains. At first we decidedto challenge his suggestion. After allthe resort was only 7kms from thetown of Raiagar. For some reasonwe decided to wait for the pick-up.Another km ahead, we were glad wewaited. The good tar roads we hadexperienced so far, suddenlydisappeared. The roads were nowthe rough mountain roads whichtested the experience of the driver. The last two kms of the journey haveactually been made after cuttingaway a portion of the mountain side!As to how this was achieved two

years ago should be an interestingstudy. The Misty Mountains is worthevery bit of the 680kms drive! Wereached late in the afternoon andwere greeted with an unforgettableview of the Himalayas. Dreamclouds flirted with snow clad peaksand mischievous pink rays of a fadingsun bounced off the snow slopes tomake the most of the last light. Weretired to our rooms to freshen upand were asked to keep our dogslocked up during the night, as therecould be a leopard on the prowl! It should have sounded scary! Butit sounded exciting. Over dinnerMadhur and his wife Ambika showedus pictures of the leopard andentertained us with stories about thelifestyle which surrounded themround the clock. For one moment, Iwas most tempted to give up oneverything I have left behind and

start a new life at The MistyMountains. The morning noised were mutedsounds of chirping birds conversingin various dialects of the birdlanguage. We woke up feelingenergized. The minute we steppedout of our cottage we stoppedbreathing. If we thought theHimalayas looked breath taking thelast evening, we must have died andgone to heaven sometime during thenight. Though it was only seven in themorning, the sun had was ready toshine and was lighting up the worldaround us in various shades of color. The snow peaked mountains stoodtall and proud tinged in hues of blue, pink and red. They felt so close thatyou wanted to reach out and touchthem. Yet they looked so dignifiedthat you would not want to disturb

their stance. Over breakfast Ambika explainedhow they grew some of their ownvegetables in little farmed areasaround the resort. It was interestingto learn how the couple had traveledfar away from the world and taken

efforts to coach the local staff inways of the hospitality sector.Ambika brings to the kitchen hervery own recipes, making every meala treat to look forward to. Our days at The Misty Mountainwere filled with long treks, lazysunny afternoons and interestingnight conversations. When it wastime to leave, it was obviously toosoon and we did not want to let gojust yet. The Misty Mountains is aresort where you could spend amonth and still come away feelingyou could have waited just a littlemore. Every day wakes up in a new color, every hour takes a new form andevery moment has a unique memoryto offer. If you are in Delhi and youwish to travel to the mountains TheMisty Mountains is one place youshould visit.
