Dear Family of Faith Members: New roof! Reconditioned doors! New hallway carpet and new church sign to be installed in June! Repainted Chapel! New Fellowship Hall sound system! Fantastic live-streaming equipment to send our services and programs all over the world! Repainted and repaired 20 Chestnut Street property! New web-site! And other stuff I’m sure I’m forgetting!?

The last few years have seen many changes to our church home. Thanks to members who gave so generously to our first building campaign and who have continued to give as progress was being made on our physical structure, we are off to a wonderful start. But it is only a start. We have much work left to do on the exterior of our buildings. And following that work, many plans for making the insides more conducive to carrying out the ministries we are fulfilling now and envisioning for the future. So this is your heads up! A Building Committee and Campaign Committee will begin meeting this summer. By the fall we hope to present plans to the congregation. Then, once our first five-year campaign is completed in December, a second five-year campaign will be launched. If you’ve been giving to the renewal of our church structures, thank you very much! I hope you will begin now to plan on participating in our continued revitalization of our spiritual home. In Christ’s peace, Bill

Music Ministry

Thank you, Chapel, Carol and Cherub Choirs for the wonderful presentation of “Oh Jonah” on May 6. It was a great evening for everyone. Special thanks are also extended to Denise Tucker and her assistant (husband Steve) for making the giant whale.

Thank you Thomas Sherrerd Choir and Kirk Ringers for your beautiful concert on May 9, at Cadbury Retirement Center. We appreciate your outreach ministry. Thanks also for your music and hard work throughout the year.

We thank our Chancel Choir for their beautiful music and dedicated service throughout this choir year. You have added so much to our worship experience.

Our annual Strawberry Festival and Pops Concert will be held on Friday, June 1. Desserts will begin being served at 6:30 PM and the concert will begin at 8:00 PM. Come hear our choir sing a variety of popular musical favorites from years past. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children, or $12 for the whole family.

A giant thank you is extended to every choir parent who helped with all of choirs throughout this choir year. We could not have managed without you. Thank you so much!

The Justice and Advocacy Committee (JAC) will be leading worship on Sunday June 17 followed by discussion and an Offering of Letters. As it did a year ago, the service will focus on hunger, both in the U.S. and abroad, and highlight the value of voices of individual believers in public policy debate. This year, following worship, the congregation is invited to stay for a time of discussion to talk about the needs of the hungry and appropriate responses from us as individuals and as a church. Stay to learn more about the issues JAC has been working on and to offer your concerns and ideas. During the discussion time, we will hold this year’s Offering of Letters. Time and materials will be available for those who wish to write a letter of concern to an elected official. Instructions and sample letters will be available. As we did last year, we look forward to the power of our many voices speaking together, but there is no requirement to participate in the letter writing. We only ask that you keep the hungry and their advocates in your prayers.

For information about the JAC or the worship service, contact Anne Vial at [email protected]. For information about Bread for the World and this year’s campaign, “Expanding the Circle of Protection,” visit http://www.bread.org/ol/2012/.

Dear Parents of Chapel Choir, Alleluia Bells, and Thomas Sherrerd Choir members,

Thank you so much for the very generous gifts given to me at the end of the choir year.  I am very proud of all that we accomplished and I have really enjoyed working with your wonderful children.

 Sincerely, Ken Carter

Dear Cherub and Carol Choir singers and families,

Thank you for the beautiful bouquets of flowers and gifts you presented to me after the performance of "Oh, Jonah!" I enjoy shopping and dining in Haddonfield, so the generous gift certificates are most appreciated!

Congratulations on your excellent singing in "Oh, Jonah!" and throughout the year! I am already looking forward to praising God through music with you next year.

Love, Mrs. Wainwright

Many thanks to all who sent cards, called, prepared and delivered meals following surgery on my right knee.  I feel truly blessed to be a part of such a caring church family.                         Pat Eastwick

Introducing our summer student

intern…

RACHEL REINICKER!

Rachel Reinicker is finishing up her junior year in high school and is excited for the summer ahead! She has been very involved in the life of this congregation and has participated in Youth Group, Mission Trips, and choir for years. She also serves as a regular leader for Middle School Youth Group, Children’s Church, and has recently accepted a new role as a Deacon. As part of her role this summer, Rachel will participate in the day to day life of the church (i.e. attending committee meetings, providing pastoral care, preparing for worship, planning summer youth events, etc.) and will assist in worship leadership throughout the summer. Rachel will also assist in preparations for both the Youth Mission Trip to Walpole Island, Ontario, and the Montreat Youth Conference in Montreat, NC. Along with other students, Rachel will attend each of these week-long events as well. Please make Rachel feel welcome as she takes on this new role this summer, and be sure to say hello when you see her next! **If you would like to receive regular updates

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Summer Worship: Our summer worship began May 27 in Fellowship Hall at 10:00 am. While celebrating Pentecost our littlest disciples will still have Nursery and Children’s Church available to them. The Nursery will be held in the Hospitality Center during worship. Children’s Church is in its regular place and always needs volunteers. You may signup for a date on the chart at the entrance to worship. The story lesson, craft and supplies are prepared for the volunteer each Sunday.

Summer Front Porch Series: The popular adult study on Deb Nussbaum’s front porch will be held for four weeks this summer. Look for the exact dates in the bulletin. The group will be viewing and discussing four Rob Bell videos.

Rally Day is scheduled for Sunday, September 9, at 9:30 AM. It will be a time for the church family to gather for breakfast together, consider the wonderful ministries available in the church, and register the children and youth for Sunday School. Sunday School will begin the following week on September 16.

Thank You: A big thank you goes to Sarah Hoobler, our Sunday School Superintendent, and Aileen Duffy, the Children’s Church Coordinator.

Sarah takes care of Sunday School attendance and offering faithfully every week. She hands out flyers to be sent home to parents, collects Heifer International offerings, gathers Easter candy and fills baskets. She is a treasure.

Aileen has been responsible for setting up the stories and supplies for Children’s Church leaders every Sunday. Aileen is graduating from high school this spring and the Children’s Church program will miss her. We pray she will realize her dreams and walk with God as she goes.

Judy GranthamChristian Education

Family FaithPentecost almost always comes after Sunday School is over, as it has this year. It is called the birthday of the Church and is worth families’ taking a little time to remember.

On Pentecost, faithful Christians gathered together seven weeks after Jesus’ death and resurrection. Acts 2 tells the story of God’s spirit rushing in like a huge windstorm and everyone asking what it meant.

Jesus had promised them a comforter who would always be with them, and so it was that God’s spirit poured down on them, filling them with the presence of God.

Tell your children the Acts 2 story from the Bible or from a children’s story bible. Talk about the mystery of a great wind and tongues of fire.

For younger children: Invite them to draw a picture of God or Jesus or draw a picture in response to the questions: What do you like most about church? What is the most important thing God wants us to remember?

For older children ask: What story/stories about Jesus do you think it is important to remember? How does God want us to live? Where do you think God’s spirit lives?

You might do this every year saving the pictures and responses in a folder. When they are confirmed give them the folder to remind them of their journey in faith.

With spring in the air and summer not far behind, come tantalizing fruits from the garden. The Senior Ministry is sponsoring a trip to the Peach Festival at Peddler’s Village on Saturday, August 11.

We’ll start out with a scrumptious lunch at Cock ‘N’ Bull Restaurant

followed by free time to sample all kinds of peach treats as well as taking advantage of sizzling savings in every shop during their Sidewalk Sale. The cost for this trip is a mere $59.

Call now to make your reservations by calling Betsy B. in the church office.

Preschool News

Summer at “Presby Preschool” lasts for 3 weeks, May 29 – June 15, 9:30 a.m. to noon

In the Court Yard there will be sprinklers and ice cream. In the classrooms there will be camping tents and space ships, earthworms being measured, tadpoles growing into frogs, painting tee shirts with real fish – a Japanese art, and children exploring the arms of an octopus before painting with the suckers on the 8 legs. *No animals will be harmed with these activities – they are purchased from Wegman’s and have already passed on.

We have completed the school year, 2011 – 2012 Preschool. We welcomed three Flyers families, and two Phillies families – our teaching staff watched more games, reveled in the wins, worried over the injuries, and held these families and others in our hearts as they reminded all of us that it was the children leading the adults to the fun and the excitement of what we do at preschool. “And what is as important as knowledge?” asked the mind. “Caring, and seeing with the heart,” answered the soul. Facebook: Share the Excitement!

We have an easy, painless way to share excitement about all that’s going on here at First Presbyterian Church in Haddonfield. Imagine what could happen if 20 people attending Haddonfield Presbyterian this coming Sunday were to post a status on Facebook. It could be something simple like “what a great sermon we heard today at Haddonfield Presbyterian,” “the music was awesome at Haddonfield Presbyterian Church today,” "it was great to see all my friends today at Haddonfield Presbyterian," maybe a quote from Pastor Bill’s or Pastor Rachel's sermon, or even a mention of an upcoming event. If just 20 church members did this each week, how many people would hear about Haddonfield Presbyterian in a year? Let’s say those 20 people have 200 Facebook friends each . . . that’s 4,000 mentions per week over 52 weeks. In a year’s time this would equal 208,000 mentions of our church over this one social network. It's easy, it's effective, and it can be done by all ages. Try it! While you're at it, go to our web page at haddonfieldpres.org and "like" us.
