Giving Matters T hroughout the history of Kadlec Foundation, there has been a driving motivation: to work hand-in-hand with Kadlec Regional Medical Center to enhance the health and well-being of the region. The year 2013 was extraordinary for the Foundation, and this report serves to highlight some of our work while saluting the generous donors who made it possible. Major Foundation initiatives in 2013 included: • Start of construction on the $9-million expansion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in September. When complete, the NICU will expand from 3,000 to 15,000 square feet and will include many major improvements. • Achieving significant success in our fundraising events with a 28 percent increase in net revenue over 2012. • Providing grants to support the purchase of specialized medical equipment including a pediatric glidescope designed for safe preparation of pediatric patients for surgery, a special stretcher for faster treatment of critical stroke patients, and a high-tech pediatric patient simulator for clinical training and education. • Supporting a number of programs and services directly related to our pediatric patients and their families, such as funding the Car Seat Program to ensure all babies go home in an appropriate car seat, teaching/education videos for families delivering babies at Kadlec; and support for a new program to reduce the anxiety of our pediatric patients having surgery. • Providing funds for the Mammogram Assistance Program, for uninsured/underinsured women in our community. • Scholarships for students pursuing careers in health care. • Dispersing Good Samaritan funds in support of patients and families. • Continuing support of EZ Detect Colon Screening Kits for disbursement to the community. • Supporting the replacement of lights in The Garden and supplies for The Chapel. • Ongoing support for bereavement services throughout the hospital.
