from rope, cable or webbing and locking hardware. Some safety harnesses are used in combination with a shock absorber, which is used to regulate
deceleration when the end of the rope is reached. CSA (Canadian Standards Association) standard issued is CSA Z259.10. Employer responsibilities include:• Ensuring that supervisors and workers are familiar with the hazards at the workplace.• Providing workers with proper training and supervision.• Ensuring that everyone in the workplace complies with the OHS Act and Regulations.• Making sure that personal protective equipment is used and maintained.Worker responsibilities include:• Following the OHS Act and Regulations• Using personal protective equipment as required• Working in a safe manner so that others are not put at risk
Confined & Restricted Space Confined spaces have a history of being potentially dangerous places to work as hazards
within them are often magnified. Limited access may be combined with poor ventilation, hazardous surroundings or
energized equipment. When workers unknowingly enter oxygen deficient or toxic atmospheres, the results can be
fatal. Confined space is a term that refers to an area which is enclosed with limited access which
make it dangerous. An example is the interior of a storage tank, which workers may enter for maintenance but
which is not ordinarily a habitable space. Hazards in a confined space often include suffocation by unbreathable gases which may be
present but not visible, or submersion in liquids or free-flowing granular solids (for example, grain bins).
Confined & Restricted SpaceEmployer Responsibilities• The employer must assign responsibility for supervision to a person who is adequately trained to
supervise the job before any worker enters a confined space.• The responsible supervisor must ensure that• Pre-entry testing and inspection is conducted based on the written procedures,• The precautions identified in the written procedures and the precautions required by this Regulation
or which are otherwise necessary for the health and safety of workers are followed, and• Only authorized workers enter a confined space.Workers Responsibilities:• Each person who is assigned duties or responsibilities related to entry into a confined space must be

exercised at all times. Due to the possibility of puncture and muscle injury to feet and
ankles, green triangle safety footwear with steel toe, shank and full sole protection is mandatory with this company.
All personnel must take special precautions to the weather condition, i.e. ice, snow, rain.
GENERAL SITE HAZARDSFalling Hazards: Personal fall protection must be worn or guardrails erected if workers are
exposed to a fall greater than 6 feet and must be trained in the care and use of personal fall protection.
There may be a case where the distance is less than 6 feet, however, there exists a hazard below for example, capped protruding rebar, then proper fall protection must be used.
Elevated work platforms, framework designs and ladders can create falling hazards. All these areas must be protected by adequate guardrails.
Spot the HazardCan you find the hazard(s) in the following pictures? Some are obvious while others
may be more difficult to identify.
