GIRAFFE

Page 2: Giraffe

Physics-The legs of agiraffe are 6 feet (1.8 meters) long

-A giraffe's heart is 2 feet (0.6 meters)long and weighs about25 pounds (11 kilograms)-Lungs can hold 12 gallons (55 litres)of air

SCIENCE ASPECTS

Page 3: Giraffe

-A newborn giraffe will measure about 6 feet tall and grow about an inch per day,

doubling its height in the first year.

-Dark spots help them to blend into the trees in the background in dappled sunlight

Physics

Page 4: Giraffe

-The average size of a giraffe's tongue is about 18 inches(45-50cm).

Physics

Chemistry-Giraffes are thought to be MUTE. However, recent

research has shown evidence that the animal communicates at an INFRASOUND level with a surprising level of complexity.

Page 6: Giraffe

CHEM+BIO-Habitat is a dry and openwoodland, regions withan abundance of acacia,a small thorny tree, which is one of thegiraffe's favourite foods.

-A giraffe’s tongue has thickened papillae, which helps to protect it From these vicious thorns. -Thick saliva is also believed to help to protect the giraffe’s tongue and mouth against the defensive mechanisms of their favourite food.

Page 7: Giraffe

Chemistry-The 11 malodorous(odorous) chemical

compounds found in giraffe hair can be found in a built-in tick and fungus repellent.

Page 8: Giraffe

Biology-Giraffe pregnancy lasts about15 months (400-460 days)-The blood vessels and valvesin the neck are elastic

Page 9: Giraffe

-When a giraffe lowers its head, blood flow suddenly increases

-Vessels thin out when a giraffe lowers its head to slow the rush of blood

VALUES ASPECTS Unique

-The giraffe is the tallestmammal in the world, with even new-born babiesbeing taller than most humans.-Just like snowflakes and humanfingerprints, no two giraffeshave the same spot pattern.-They can sleep while eating

Page 11: Giraffe

Loyal-These herds may separate to graze for

the day, but they always stay within hearing and vision range of each other.

Page 12: Giraffe

National Education Aspects Singapore is our homeland; this is

where we belong. We treasure our heritage and take pride in shaping our own unique way of life.

Commitment and Responsibility- Relocating and releasing the giraffes from zoos and

rescue centers into the wild

Page 13: Giraffe

No one owes Singapore a living. We find our own way to survive and prosper turning challenge into opportunity.

Giraffes can go for several days without water Their long necks help them to see far away. Long legs to keep them high up so that it is harder

for the predators to attack them.
