long, including all segments, separator characters and a prefix

An inventory item number can consist of up to 10 segments

Different items can use different sets of segments

The segments are used to organize items by common attributes

All items numbers must contain at least one segment

An inventory item number must not have more than 8 segments

The last segment of an inventory item must be in a primary grid code

The segment before the last of an inventory item number must be in a secondary grid code

You can have sized and non-sized items
