HARRY GEORGE JOHNS / THE LAST BATTLE (acoustic) / ASTRONAUT HEAD; Leeds based musician HARRY GEORGE JOHNS will be taking his brooding solo acoustic stylings on the road after the release of his debut mini album Post-Breakdown Blues. Keeping things as DIY as possible, Harry has handpicked several intimate venues, one of which is the fantastic Henderson's Café. Post-Breakdown Blues is an incredibly personal diary of a dark and desperate time. As Winter 2011 was in full flow, Harry found himself confronting issues such as mental illness, heartbreak and homelessness. He stayed on a mate's floor with a laptop and a few microphones, and inspired by this dark time, Harry wrote and recorded Post-Breakdown Blues. Joining the former DINOSAUR PILE-UP guitarist will be our mates...THE LAST BATTLE (acoustic) Fantastic indie/folk/pop gems from Scott Longmuir along with his slightly smaller than usual band of merry men and women and ASTRONAUT HEAD Disarmingly powerful off-kilter alt. pop from this currently Edinburgh-based Buffalo, New Yorker. DINGUS KHAN / KING EIDER / MINDS OF MONTAGE, Described as "Rising like a behemoth from the sludge of the Stour Estuary, DINGUS KHAN are exactly what you'd imagine a band with a name like Dingus Khan to be. They consist of three drummers to keep your heart beating. Three bass players to keep your feet tapping. A singing guitarist to melt young girls' hearts. And an electric ukulele demon just to keep you on your toes. Let Dingus Khan play their rock and roll music my boy, and let them play it Hard and Fast. Then Slow and Steady. Then Hard and Fast." BOMBSKARE / The Skarsoles / The Girobabies; Edinburgh’s 9-piece touring juggernaut, Bombskare are firmly established as one of the most EXPLOSIVE and entertaining live acts in the country; a result of hard work, relentless touring and their trademark high energy stage shows. Their second album, ‘The Day The Earth Stood Stupid’ showcases this perfectly. Incorporating a melting pot of various musical styles, tongue-in-cheek humour, 1000mph dance-

floor fillers and masterful musicianship, guaranteed to get you moving. King Tut's Wah Wah Hut . 272a St Vincent Street, Glasgow. Doors 20:30pm. Plus DJ sets from Selective Service & Kyle Neary. Maggie Mays Basement, 60 The Trongate, Glasgow, Doors 7.30pm, Entry £6 THE SHEEPDOGS / The Dark Jokes / Rockburn; While most rock bands are all too focused on the riff, the Sheepdogs remember the importance of those other elements that make for great rock music: melody, harmony and groove. To see them live is pure rock and roll jubilation, to revel in the splendor created by 3 part vocal harmonies and heavy hitting dual guitar leads. Their latest album, Learn & Burn, is a beautiful blend of power and imagination, ranging from ferocious rockers to southern boogie and grooving psychedelia. Big guitars, stacked harmonies, vintage organ and piano skillfully colour each of the album's 15 tracks, proving that these boys are as dedicated to the craft of songwriting and album making as they are to playing a dynamite live show. The Sheepdogs are an old-school rock and roll revival. King Tut's Wah Wah Hut . 272a St Vincent Street, Glasgow. Doors 20:30pm. THE BLOKES Playing the best Folk and blues around, Maggie Mays Bar, 60 The Trongate, Glasgow, Doors 10pm, Entry Free. JOSEPHINE / Bronagh Monahan; Manchester’s soulful chanteuse, Josephine, has created a self-reflective debut album which illustrates the many different sides of a fascinating character. Vocally, her prowess recalls ‘the Queen of gospel’, Mahalia Jackson’s distinctive contralto, yet behind the powerful delivery is a husky undercurrent making every replaying seem like a personal performance. This compelling delivery commands attention completely, on a record replete with a vibrant array of musical genres. Whether accompanied by Ed Harcourt on stripped-back piano melody House Of Mirrors, or playing a fast-paced bossa-nova infused jaunt via Pepper Shaker, she’s equally awe-inspiring. APRIL Edinburgh’s Youth ‘Easter’ Gaitherin Edinburgh April 2 – 5 The Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin was set up in 1995 by a group of par-ents who wanted to provide an op-portunity for young people from across the city to come together and learn skills in traditional Scot-tish music. Over the past 15 years we have grown from strength to strength and, in addition to the hugely popular annual Easter event, EYG has a year-round programme of workshops and performance op-portunities for young people aged 9 – 25. These opportunities range from the weekly Craigmillar Ceilidh Club and Wester Hailes Music Mon-days where young people can learn skills in singing, song writing, gui-tar, fiddle and keyboard to perform-ance opportunities at international festivals abroad! EYG’s flagship Easter event takes place during the Easter holidays. Around 120 young people (P5 - S6) take part in four days of workshops led by some of the country’s finest traditional musi-cians. The event is supported by a team of volunteers and workshop range from fiddle and accordion to song writing and internet radio pro-duction. The Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin is for anyone; whether you’ve never played before, only just started, or you are an experi-enced player or singer. You don’t need to have experience of tradi-tional music or be able to read mu-sic to enjoy EYG events. www.eyg.org.uk Inverness Whisky Festival Bogbain Farm April 5-6 The Inverness Whisky Festival cele-brates our national drink within the fantastic surroundings of Bogbain Farm, 3 miles south of Inverness.
