We don’t celebrate that victory, but we like to
celebrate our outgoing and incoming Board members.

Activity Groups Artists at Work New New!!!! Joann Hale (360) 329-7449 There is a new group in the making!!! Members of this group would consider themselves artists, but would not take it too seriously! They would love to paint using different media including pastels, oils, acrylics; they would love to throw a wheel for pottery work; they would love to walk in the woods and go down on their knees to take the perfect picture of the emerging spring flowers; they would love to buy all the beads from Michael’s to make fine jewelry. This new group would take field trips to art galleries and museums, visit local art shows and share ideas and concepts regarding various mediums. If that’s you would love to do as well, send an email to Joann Hale ([email protected]) or call her at 360-329-7449. An organizing meeting will be set up soon!!
Blade & Spade Nancy Christopher (253) 265-2863 Blade & Spade meets usually meets the fourth Tuesday of each month, approximately ten times a year for lectures, tours and field trips within the state (weather permitting). Luncheon arrangements are still pending, but we will find a nice place for lunch.

Book Clubs
Want to make some new friends who also love to read? Looking for a place to go to talk about great books? Book groups are a great venue for both of those activities. Books are selected for reading and discussion by the members. Each member is expected to host during the year. If you would like to participate in any one of these groups, please call the coordinator listed for information. All three Book Clubs will welcome new members!
Bunco 1 Shirley Wohlman (253) 851-4063 Bunco needs some new faces to join our group on a regular basis or as a sub. Meetings are 2nd Wednesday of each month at 12:30 p.m. at members’ homes. It is really fun, no skills needed, games are easy, there is time to socialize, get acquainted with each other, have some desserts and maybe even add to your mad money when you win! Please call Shirley Wohlman 851-4063.
Canasta Group - Joanne Bennett (253) 509-0123
Canasta players meet every Friday at Canterwood Country Club, 12606 54th Ave NW, (253) 851-1845. We play from 10:30 AM to around 3:00 PM. New players are welcome; it is easy to learn this rummy-based game and we are happy to train. We buy lunch at Canterwood from a menu with budget-friendly options (no cash, credit card required). Coffee, tea, water and cookies are complimentary. If you would like to be added to the roster, please contact Joanne Bennett at [email protected] or call (253) 509-0123.
Cocktailers Betty Ringlee (253)265-0965 Carolyn Whitson (253) 549-0085 Thanks to the Meissners, Gunda, Uwe, and Mark for hosting a great party in March to kick off the Spring Season. The next Cocktailers will be held on Saturday April 29th at the home of Dave and Carolyn Folsom at 6:00 pm. That is a changed date in order to accommodate those who want to attend the Memorial Service for Dolores Argabright to be held on April 22nd. May Cocktailers is cancelled since many of the regular attendees will be returning from the Gearhart trip. Upcoming hosts include Betty and David Ringlee for June, June Benoit for July, and the Meissners again in September. We have one opening for August, a prime time, so call Carolyn to sign up to host. Lots of cohosts are available to help!
May – June 2017 Newsletter www.gigharborwelcomeclub.com Page 6

Friday Night Out is composed of 10 couples who celebrate the first Friday of each month. Members meet in the host couples home for appetizers & cocktails followed by dinner at a restaurant of the host choice. Dessert and fellowship follows dinner at the host home. We are presently full but if you would like to be called when an opening occurs, please call or e-mail Mary Atkins.
Genealogy Group Harris Atkins (253) 858-6270) We normally meet on the 3rd Friday of the month based on the availability of conference rooms. We meet from 2:45pm to 4:30pm in the large conference room at the Peninsula Branch of the Pierce County Library in Gig Harbor. Typically, we begin our meeting with discussing some aspect of research, e.g. data sources, research methods, records keeping; followed by a general question and answer period. Discussion topics will be sent out by reminder e-mail about a week before the meeting. We are an informal group and our objective is to explore family history research techniques and tools, share experiences and discuss problems in our research. The only qualifications are an interest in family history and a willingness to contribute to the discussions. You can come every month or only when we are discussing a topic in which you are interested. Experience in genealogy is not required. If you have questions you can contact me at [email protected] or at the above phone number
Let’s Do Dinner Paula Stockbridge & Ron Talley (253) 358-5990 The Let's Do Dinner group held their March dinner in Jack and Roselyn Knowlden's home. The April dinner was hosted by Ron Talley and Paula Stockbridge. We invite our friends in Welcome Club who have not participated before or who would like to join us as a guest to see what a nice evening we have to contact the coordinators, Paula Stockbridge and Ron Talley, and let us know that you are interested. We will provide you with a calendar of scheduled dinners and put you on our guest list. Dinner hosts provide the entree and wines, and guests bring the sides, salads and desserts. And by the way, you can serve what you want: it can be elaborate or not; it can be pizza, it can be hamburgers, anything goes, as long as it’s homemade!!! We normally set up groups of 8 with one or more hosts. It is a lively group and the food is always great. Come join us!!
Lunch Bunch Grace Rowe (253) 851-6200 New members or old ones are most welcome to join us at different restaurants each month. We meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month. If you did not sign up to attend at previous month, you must call Grace or the hostess for the current month to have your name added to the reservation list. We do not call to remind you. If you have to cancel your reservation a phone call is most appreciated. A very enjoyable group; meet new friends or catch up with old ones. We lunch from Gig Harbor to Port Orchard, University Place and Tacoma. Come help us plan where to try next. Thank you all for the support these past years. See you for lunch.

Men’s Golf Jim Terry (253) 509-2557
Where we have been rained or snowed out several times this past winter we are starting off our spring/summer season with a bang. So far we have had good weather at Allenmore golf course; some rain at Gold Mountain Cascade course and no rain at McCormick Woods. We are off to Port Ludlow golf course this week. Our turn-out has been between 12 to 14 golfers per week. We look forward to seeing you all on the course and remember: “Just grip-it-an-rip-it”.
Men’s Poker Bill Evans (253) 265-0049 Ray Kittelberger (253) 549 -2195 This new group will have a different host monthly and the night selected is the second Tuesday @ 6:00PM at the host’s home, where a light dinner, soft drinks and beer will be served. The Group is open to new members. We currently have seven original members and five subs. We strive to have seven members for a card game and several subs. Needle Arts Sharon Panchot (253) 858-2091 Needle Arts meets on the first Thursday of the month at 10:30 am at members’ homes. Our individual projects include knitting, crocheting, embroidery, counted cross-stitch/needlepoint, quilting, or sometimes just doing some hand-sewing - whatever we enjoy. We stay through lunch and always enjoy some good conversation. We'll be meeting at Karen Anderson's home on Thursday, May 4th, and on Thursday, June 1st, Carolyn Folsom will host our group. An e-mail reminder will be sent to group members a few days before each meeting, but please be sure to RSVP to the
hostess so she'll know you're planning to come.
Double-Deck Pinochle Group Joyce Fischlin (253) 858-3898 The Double-Deck Pinochle Group plays on the third Tuesday of each month. We meet at The Lodge at Mallard’s Landing, second floor, and play from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. We play for fun and everyone is welcome – couples, singles, men, and women. So, if you are interested in joining us, give me a call or send me an email ([email protected]).
Sailing Activity Group Bob Himes (253) 509-0113 The month of May signals the end of cold, rainy weather and the beginning of the sailing season. The Sailing Group schedules at least two outings per month (depending on wind, weather, tides, and crew availability) for 4 – 6 hour day sails out of the Harbor aboard a Catalina 310 sailboat from May through September. While there is ample opportunity for members to get some time at the helm and trim sails, no prior sailing experience is required, just an appreciation of being out on the water in a fresh breeze with good company. In past sailing seasons we’ve spotted harbor seals, sea lions, orcas, and attracted Pacific dolphins who like to swim around the boat. Please contact Bob Himes (253-509-0113) to find out more about this group and express interest in joining us for the 2017 season. A preliminary schedule for May will be distributed via e-mail by April 25th with instructions on signing-up to crew on a scheduled date.
The Travel Club meets the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Rosedale Village Club House at 7:00 pm. Call one of the coordinators for the access code to the gate. Please come with your ideas,
