We are the people of the Ipai/Tipai/Kumeyaay Nation~ those who face the water from a cliff ~ the largest Native American population residing in the extreme southwestern United States and northwest Mexico. Kumeyaay - the name acknowledges and reaffirms our common culture, language and history. We are a tenacious people who trace our existence since the beginning of time.

What have we learned from the lives of Kumeyaay women, original inhabitants of San Diego County? From birthing rituals to puberty rites, the Kumeyaay mark their life’s milestones in unique ways.Explore their culture, learn about their clothes, food, tattoos, art, herbal remedies, songs, and stories. Understand what we have gained and what we have lost.

We are seeking financial and/or in-kind support to ensure the success of the exhibit Gifts of our Sisters – Lost and Found as well as a variety of related community receptions and educational events throughout the exhibit’s two-month run.

More than 2400 people will visit the Women’s Museum of California during December and January. This exhibit and surrounding events will be attended by students, families, supporters, community and tribal leaders. We plan to garner a goodly amount of media attention and recognition.

The Women's Museum of California has as its mission: to educate and inspire future generations about the experiences and contributions of women by collecting, preserving, and interpreting the evidence of their experience. This important exhibit supports this mission and honors the wisdom and traditions of the women of the Kumeyaay nation .

Please consider a level of partnership appropriate for you or your organizationand for which we sincerely thank you. We look forward to seeing you at our Opening Events and throughout the year at the Women’s Museum of California. Contact: Ashley Gardner, Museum Director 619 233-7963 [email protected]
