1-WHAT IS VET GUIDANCE?

According to CEDEFOP (European Centre for the

Development of Vocational Training) in the publication

“Terminology of European education and training policy",

guidance and counselling / information, advice and guidance

(IAC) is defined as a range of activities designed to help

individuals take educational, vocational or personal decisions

and carry them out before and after they enter the labour

market.

Furthermore, guidance and counselling may include:

1. – counselling (personal or career development, educational guidance),

2. – assessment (psychological or competence-/ performance related),

3. – information on learning and labour market opportunities and career management,

4. – consultation with peers, relatives or educators, 5. – vocational preparation (pinpointing skills/competences

and experience for job seeking), 6. – referrals (to learning and career specialists).

Guidance and counselling can be provided at schools, training centres, job centres, the workplace, the community or in other settings.

2-NEWS ABOUT VET GUIDANCE EUROPEAN CAREER GUIDANCE CONFERENCE 2013

CAREER-EU 2013,

15 - 19 May 2013, Poznan, Poland The European Association of Career Guidance (EACG) in

cooperation with the European Association of ERASMUS Coordinators (EAEC), the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and the INENTER Network, organizes the 4th CAREER-EU Conference from 15-19 May 2013, in Poznan, Poland. The CAREER-EU is organized under the 9th annual

ERASMUS Congress and Exhibition - ERACON2013. The INENTER Conference will also run in parallel. Career Guidance Counsellors and other experts are invited to make presentations and submit papers. Workshops and Sessions within the conference are also invited to discuss specific topics and to draw up concrete suggestions, which can contribute to the improvement of Career Guidance Counselling. 3-PROJECT PARTNERS PROJECT COORDINATOR Seyhan Ilçe Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü, TURKEY

The Directorate of Education is responsible for the central administration of all aspects of education and related services in Seyhan district. The Directorate’s main areas of responsibility are in pre-school, primary, post-primary, vocational education, adult education and

special education. Its primary statutory duty is to promote the education of the people of Seyhan district and to ensure the effective implementation of education policy.

PROJECT PARTNERS Comune di Sant’Angelo in Vado, ITALY

The Municipality of Sant’Angelo in Vado has a training department, certified in the Marche Region, Italy. The training department offers training to internal employees on communication aspects and team work and has experience in vocational training and continuous education for adults with

emphasis on socially and economically disadvantaged groups, i.e. immigrants, unemployed people. Avanos Kiz Teknik Ve Meslek Lisesi, TURKEY Is a technical and vocational high school in the middle of

Anatolia in Avanos/Turkey. In our school we have child development branch, catering, ICT, handicrafts and clothing manufacturing branch. We also have a nursery school where our students study. Avanos district is developing rapidly in tourism sector and there is job vacancy in the private sector in the area. We are in cooperation with Turkish

employment organization because of this reason and we organise courses regularly to meet this need. As a result of these courses we have an employment rate of 50%. Liceul Tehnologic Transporturi Auto, ROMANIA Grupul Scolar de Transporturi Auto as an institution that

provides education and trains students of all levels; pre-primary, primary, secondary, high school, evening class. 1602 students are coordinated by more then 100 teachers. In our school there is a Technological department and there are 25 teachers who teach technical subjects and they are in cooperation with two counsellors and psychologists. Each

year our teachers visit every secondary schools from the south county and discuss with the students, present them the qualifications in order to motivate them to attend our school and train them.

Liceul Teoretic Tudor Arghezi, ROMANIA

“Tudor Arghezi” high school is situated in the city of Craiova, in the south-western part of Romania. The school is situated in the north part of Craiova, we have a total of 1297 students and 84 teachers. The age of our students ranges between 7 and 19 years old. Our school provides primary, secondary and high school classes,

but 11% of them are students enrolled at the Maximum Security Penitentiary present a high risk of social exclusion; they are aged and have learning difficulties school there are specializations: literature, social sciences, mathematics and computer science and natural sciences. Every year about 60 students give exam for professional certificate in computer science. Professional High School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering "Marie Curie" BULGARIA

Professional High School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering “Marie Curie” (BULGARIA) is a vocational school in Sliven, which has about 120.000 inhabitants. The town is situated at 100 km from The Black Sea and 300 km from the capital, Sofia. The school was founded in 1962 and is one of the authoritative in the country. It has 500

students, aged from 14 to 19, 93% are male. They are trained in various professions: Computer technologies, Microprocessor equipment, System programming, Automobile electronics, and Electrical equipment.

Profesionalas Izglitibas Kompetences Centrs “Liepajas Valsts Tehnikums”, LATVIA

Competence centre of vocational education "Liepaja State technical school" is one of the biggest vocational schools in Latvia with 1700 trainees and 130 teachers. The school is located in Latvia at

220 km from the capital of Latvia, Riga. The city Liepaja is situated at the Baltic Beach and Port of Liepaja is the third biggest Port in Latvia. KADIS, SLOVENIA

Kadis is an organization operating in the field of human resources and also has wide experience in recruitment, legal consulting and "know-how" in HR management and training.

We have been working on employability and career guidance programmes since 1995. We are the main provider of employability skills trainings in central Slovenia and experienced in working with groups, providing various workshops and lectures for different target groups (employees, employers, unemployed and other job seekers, students, parents) and trainings for other career counsellors. We also offer career guidance services for individuals and SME companies. Within several projects, we have developed competence models for different career profiles, assessment of existing competences and tailor-made competence-based trainings.

FUNDECYT - PCTEX SPAIN FUNDECYT-PCTEx aims to create the space and services needed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, science and technology leading to socio-economic development of Extremadura.

The aims of the new Foundation are the result of the addition of the objectives of both Foundations merged and, in this sense, its draft statutes states: "The Foundation aims to contribute to the social and economic exploitation of the science and technology, to support and promote of scientific and technological development and its management, to make better use of the research and innovation, and encourage the participation of civil society mobilizing its resources. Fundacja Rozwoju Inicjatyw Edukayjnych I Społecznych, POLAND

Foundation for Educative and Social Initiatives Development is a foundation from Poland which activate in the field of Education. Our services and activities are directed to

educational institutions, teachers and all target groups on the labour market. We are implementing good practices in gender issues and promote equal opportunities of women and men in all areas of life. Foundation is achieving its goals through the following

activities: Labour market research; training; publishing; and Seminars; The Foundation puts strong emphasis on problems of young people and their engagement on labour market.

4- PROJECT MOBILITIES

KICK OFF MEETING: FIRST MOBILITY ADANA (TURKEY) The Kick off Meeting of GI-VET project took place in Adana (Turkey) on October, from the 16th to the 20th. During these days, partners, took the opportunity to visit project partner Avanos Girls’ technical and vocational high school, located in Avanos (Turkey) and they could check in situ the training opportunities offered by the center: cooking, nursery and clothing manufacturing. Partners also visited director of National education and the district governor of Seyhan and the counselling department of Seyhan district. During the meetings partners introduced their organizations/schools, regions or towns and the vocational education system in the respective country.

Partners also discussed about project results and outcomes as the comparison of the vocational education systems (in the first year), as well as the project blog (with contributions from each partner), the Moodle platform, the e-booklet (a more detailed variant of the newsletters), 300 tests for students and 30 career plans. Furthermore, different dissemination activities will be carried out by the partners, as newsletter and leaflets.

SECOND MOBILITY: BADAJOZ (SPAIN) The Second GI-VET project mobility and consortium meeting took place in Badajoz (Spain) on November, from the 26th to the 29th. During this mobility partners visited different VET centers, as “I.E.S. San José” (Secondary and vocational Education school), “I.E.S. Santa Eulalia” (Secondary school) and “Escuela Virgen Guadalupe” (Secondary and Vocational Education school). Furthermore, partners were received by VET General Director of the Regional Government of Extremadura where they could know about the education system and VET guidance implemented in the region.

During the working meeting, partners showed the situation of VET Guidance in each country, and discussed about the comparison of the different systems as well as the different instruments used by counsellors to help students.
