Golden Harvest, Inc., Golden Gates, manufacturers a complete line of aluminum and stainless steel gates for distribution worldwide. These products, based on extensive experience in all types of environments, are the result of intensive research, computer, lab, field-testing, analysis, and customer input. The Company is located in Burlington, Washington about 60 miles north of Seattle. Our 25,000 square foot manufacturing facility includes advanced fabrication, welding, and machining areas. Golden Harvest, Inc. has been manufacturing water control gates for the United States and International water and wastewater markets since 1983. Each Golden Gate is designed with specific features and characteristics, to meet the particular application. The basic design can be adapted to suit the exact requirements of the application in terms of size, shape, and strength. New product ideas continue to evolve from Golden Harvest, Inc.s experience and customer input. Innovative ideas have led to new perspectives and modern answers to emerging technical challenges. DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION GOLDEN HARVEST, INC. GH-37 TIDE REGULATED FLAP GATE (patent pending)THE GH-37 OPERATES UTILIZING THE BASIC CONFIGURATION OF A NORMAL FLAP GATE AND MODIFYING IT TO PERFORM THE MORE DETAILED DUTIES OF TIDE BACK FLOW REGULATION. THE TASK OF BACK FLOW REGULATION IS CONTROLLED BY THE PRECISION PLACEMENT IN ELEVATION AND THE SIZING OF A SECONDARY FLAP ON THE PRIMARY FLAP GATE. THE OPENING AND CLOSING RATES OF THE SECONDARY FLAP ARE CONTROLLED BY A SERIES OF FLOAT DEVICES THAT ARE ADJUSTABLE TO CONTROL THE EVENT TIMING. THE SERIES OF CYCLES THAT THE REGULATING GATE OPERATES THRU ARE: (WITHOUT AUTOMATIC LOCKING OPTION) 1. PRIMARY FLAP IN THE NORMAL POSITION OF ALLOWING THE WATER FROM THE AREA BEHIND THE FLAP GATE TO OUTFLOW. 2. AS THE TIDE RISES IT WILL REACH THE ELEVATION OF THE BOTTOM OF THE SECONDARY FLAP. AT THIS TIME THE FLAP WILL OPEN AS THE TIDE RISES UNTIL IT ACHIEVES ITS PREDETERMINED ELEVATION. 3. AFTER THE SECONDARY FLAP IS FULL OPEN THE TIDE CONTINUES TO RISE AND WILL COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE CLOSURE FLOATS AT A PREDETERMINED ELEVATION. 4. AS THE TIDE CONTINUES TO RISE IT WILL LIFT THE CLOSURE FLOATS AND THEY IN TURN WILL CLOSE THE SECONDARY FLAP, THERE BY STOPPING TIDAL IN FLOW. 5. THE TIDE MAY NOW RISE TO A GREATER ELEVATION AND THERE WILL BE NO INFLOW AS BOTH FLAP GATES ARE CLOSED. 6. AFTER THE HIGH TIDE EVENT HAS BEEN REACHED THE TIDE BEGINS TO FALL. AS THE TIDE FALLS IT WILL RELEASE THE CLOSURE FLOATS AND THE SECONDARY FLAP WILL BEGIN TO OPEN. THE SECONDARY FLAP WILL REMAIN OPEN AS LONG AS THE TIDE ELEVATION IS BETWEEN THE BOTTOM OF IT AND THE MAXIMUM OPEN SETTINGS. 7. WHEN THE TIDE FALLS TO AN ELEVATION LOWER THAN THE BOTTOM OF THE SECONDARY FLAP AND THE WATER LEVEL BEHIND THE PRIMARY FLAP ARE EQUAL THERE WILL BE NO FLOW. 8. AT A POINT IN TIME THE WATER LEVEL BEHIND THE PRIMARY FLAP WILL RISE TO A LEVEL GREATER THAN THE TIDAL ELEVATION AND OUTFLOW WILL OCCUR AGAIN. THE COMPLETE CYCLE OR A PORTION OF IT MAY NOW REPEAT AGAIN. 9. MANUAL LOCK OPTION ON THE SECONDARY FLAP ALLOWS THE GATE TO FUNCTION AS A TRADITIONAL TIDE GATE WHEN FISH PASSAGE AND OR TIDE FLUSHING IS NOT REQUIRED.

THE TIDE MAY NOW RISE TO A GREATER ELEVATION AND THERE WILL BE NO INFLOW AS BOTH FLAP GATES ARE CLOSED. 6. AS THE TIDE FALLS THE LATCH FLOATS CAN BE SET TO UNLOCK THE SECONDARY FLAP AT A PREDETERMINED ELEVATION, THEREBY CONTROLLING THE AMOUNT OF TIDAL INFLOW ALLOWED. ONCE THE LATCHING FLOATS UNLATCH THE SECONDARY FLAP IS ALLOWED TO OPEN AND WILL REMAIN OPEN AS LONG AS THE TIDE ELEVATION IS BETWEEN THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR AND THE MAXIMUM OPEN SETTINGS. 7. WHEN THE TIDE FALLS TO AN ELEVATION LOWER THAN THE BOTTOM OF THE SECONDARY FLAP AND THE WATER LEVEL BEHIND THE PRIMARY FLAP ARE EQUAL THERE WILL BE NO FLOW. 8. AT A POINT IN TIME THE WATER LEVEL BEHIND THE PRIMARY FLAP WILL RISE TO A LEVEL GREATER THAN THE TIDAL ELEVATION AND OUTFLOW WILL OCCUR AGAIN. THE COMPLETE CYCLE OR A PORTION OF IT MAY NOW REPEAT AGAIN. 9. MANUAL LOCK OPTION ON THE SECONDARY DOOR ALLOWS THE GATE TO FUNCTION AS A TRADITIONAL TIDE GATE WHEN FISH PASSAGE AND OR TIDE FLUSHING IS NOT REQUIRED. THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY FLAPS AND MAIN HINGE ARMS ARE FABRICATED FROM ALUMINUM, WITH STAINLESS STEEL PINS RUNNING IN UHMWPE BUSHINGS. THE SECONDARY FLAP HAS AN INTEGRAL FLOAT CHAMBER THAT IS BOTH SIZE AND LOCATION ADJUSTABLE WHICH ALLOWS IT TO MAINTAIN A SLIGHTLY POSITIVE BUOYANCY. THE FULLY ADJUSTABLE CLOSURE FLOATS ARE ATTACHED WITH STAINLESS STEEL RODS AND HARDWARE. THE CLOSURE FLOATS ARE ADJUSTABLE IN SIZE AND LOCATION ALLOWING FINE TUNING OF THE OPENING / CLOSING EVENT OF THE SECONDARY FLAP. THE MOUNTING FRAME OR SPIGOT MAY BE EITHER ROUND OR SQUARE TO ACCOMMODATE A VARIETY OF MOUNTING CONFIGURATIONS. THE SECONDARY FLAP OR FLAPS MAY BE LOCATED ALMOST ANYWHERE ON THE PRIMARY FLAP TO ALLOW FOR THE CONTROL OF TIDAL WATER TO AN ESTUARY OR FISH PASSAGE. THE OPENING AND CLOSING EVENTS OF THE SECONDARY FLAP OR FLAPS CAN BE CUSTOMIZED TO ACCOMMODATE A VARIETY OF MOUNTING CONDITIONS.

SUMMARYTHE MODEL GH-37 TIDE REGULATED FLAP GATE OFFERS MANY ADVANTAGES OVER SIMILAR PRODUCTS IN USE TODAY: DRAINAGE CAPACITY IS NEVER RESTRICTED. MANUAL LOCK OF SECONDARY DOOR ALLOWS SEASONAL USE OF TIDE REGULATED FEATURE WITHOUT RESTRICTING DRAINAGE THRU THE MAIN FLAP GATE. CUSTOM SIZING OF THE SECONDARY DOOR ALLOWS CONTROL OF VOLUME OF UPSTREAM FLOW WITHOUT RESTRICTING DOWN STREAM FLOW. THE SECONDARY DOOR MAY BE OPENED ON BOTH RISING AND FALLING TIDES.

GH-100OUR PREMIER IS THE GH-100 FULLY WEDGED STAINLESS STEEL SLUICE GATE. THIS GATE HAS BEEN IN THE FIELD SINCE 1988. THE MODEL GH-100 OFFERS SOME UNIQUE DESIGN FEATURES THAT HAVE PROVEN IT TO BE A RELIABLE AND COST EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVE TO THE TRADITIONAL CAST IRON SLUICE GATE. WHILE THIS GATE IS FABRICATED AND NOT CAST IRON, IT SHOULD NOT BE CONFUSED WITH A FABRICATED SLIDE GATE. THE GH-100 SLUICE GATE APPURTENANCES MEET THE LATEST REQUIREMENTS OF AWWA C-501. DEPENDING ON THE WATER CONDITIONS THE SLUICE GATE FRAME AND DISC ARE FABRICATED FROM EITHER TYPE 304 OR TYPE 316 STAINLESS STEEL. ALTHOUGH THEY DO NOT MEET THE MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR AWWA C-501, WHICH SPECIFIES CAST IRON, THE STRUCTURAL DESIGN IS IN CONFORMANCE WITH THE AMERICAN WATER WORKS ASSOCIATION FOR CAST IRON SLUICE GATES {ANSI/ AWWA C-501-92, AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF STEEL CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS ASD-NINTH EDITION UNIFORM BUILDING CODE U.B.C. 97}. THE MODEL GH-100 IS PROVIDED WITH ADJUSTABLE WEDGE BARS ON THE SIDES AND TOP OF THE GATE. AROUND THE U.S., OWNERS ARE TURNING AWAY FROM CAST IRON SLUICE GATES. TO KEEP FROM SEIZING, A CAST IRON SLUICE GATE HAS TO BE EXERCISED REGULARLY AND THIS CAN BE A NUISANCE TO OWNERS AND PLANT OPERATORS. THE GH-100 SLUICE GATE DOES NOT HAVE METAL-TO-METAL CONTACT, ELIMINATING THE NEED TO OPERATE THE GATE ON A REGULAR CYCLE. THREADED STEMS ARE SIZED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CALCULATED TENSILE AND COMPRESSIVE LOADS WHICH WILL BE ENCOUNTERED WHILE OPENING AND CLOSING THE GATE, AND STEM GUIDES ARE SPACED SO THAT BUCKLING OF THE STEM UNDER COMPRESSION DOES NOT OCCUR. COLD ROLLED THREADS ARE PROVIDED FOR LESS FRICTION AND LONGER SERVICE LIFE, ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT IN MODULATING APPLICATIONS.

SLUICE GATES: SLUICE GATES SHALL BE FROM ONE MANUFACTURER WITH SIMILAR SIZES IDENTICAL AND PARTS INTERCHANGEABLE. SPECIFIC CONDITIONS ARE DESCRIBED IN THE SPECIFICATIONS, ON THE DRAWINGS AND GATE SCHEDULE. THE SPECIFICATIONS ARE BASED ON THE MODEL GH-100 AS MANUFACTURED BY GOLDEN HARVEST, INC., GOLDEN GATES TM (1-800-338-6238). RODNEY HUNT MODEL 600 AND WATERMAN MODEL SENTINELL III ARE ACCEPTABLE IF FURNISHED WITH THE SPECIFIC FEATURES REQUIRED BY THIS SPECIFICATION. ALL METAL USED IN CONSTRUCTION OF THE GATE SHALL BE TYPE 304 OR 316 STAINLESS STEEL. MANUFACTURES QUALIFICATIONS: MANUFACTURER OF THE SLUICE GATES SHALL HAVE EXPERIENCE IN PROVIDING SAME TYPE EQUIPMENT AND SHOW EVIDENCE OF AT LEAST FIVE (5) INSTALLATIONS WHERE EQUIPMENT OF THE SAME MATERIAL, DESIGN, AND APPLICATION OF THE TYPE SPECIFIED HEREIN HAVE BEEN IN SATISFACTORY OPERATION FOR AT LEAST FIVE (5) YEARS. THE LIST OF INSTALLATIONS SHALL INCLUDE THE NAME AND TELEPHONE NUMBER OF THE PLANT SUPERINTENDENT AT EACH OF THE FIVE (5) QUALIFYING LOCATIONS. SPECIFIC FEATURES SUCH AS, BUT NOT LIMITED TO FULLY ADJUSTABLE AND LOCKABLE WEDGES, ROLLED STEM THREADS AND CALCULATIONS WILL BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO. GUIDE RAILS: THE GUIDE RAILS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED OF FORMED PLATE WITH A MINIMUM THICKNESS OF 1/4. WHERE THE GUIDES EXTEND ABOVE THE OPERATING FLOOR, THEY SHALL BE SUFFICIENTLY STRONG SO THAT NO FURTHER REINFORCING SHALL BE REQUIRED. THE YOKE, TO SUPPORT THE OPERATING BENCHSTAND, SHALL BE FORMED BY TWO STRUCTURAL MEMBERS WELDED AT THE TOP OF THE GUIDES TO PROVIDE A ONE PIECE RIGID FRAME. COMPANION FLANGE AND SEAL: EACH TELESCOPING VALVE SHALL BE SUPPLIED WITH A DUCTILE IRON, STAINLESS STEEL OR STEEL COMPANION FLANGE DESIGNED TO MATCH STANDARD DIAMETER PIPE. EACH COMPANION FLANGE SHALL BE FURNISHED WITH A NEOPRENE SEAL OF THE PROPER THICKNESS AND DUROMETER FOR A TIGHT SEAL AROUND THE SLIP TUBE. ANCHORAGE: ALL ASSEMBLY HARDWARE AND ANCHOR BOLTS SHALL BE TYPE 304 STAINLESS STEEL AND BE SUPPLIED BY THE TELESCOPING VALVE MANUFACTURE.
