What is Evernote?
Evernote is a digital notebook or as I think of it – a digital loose-leaf.
In your digital loose-leaf you can have notes, notebooks and different sections so you can organize your content without having to drag a cumbersome loose-leaf around with you.

Creating your Evernote account
Go to www.Evernote.com and click “Sign up now”
Type in the Email you want associated with Evernote and then type in a password
This will include an email as a user name and a password. Write this down so you don’t forget it. You will need it later on after the install.
Fill in the Create Account with the same information on the previous screen
Downloading Evernote to your Desktop
This button will take you to the web-based version.

In Explorer click on run

A single item stored in Evernote. This can be a PDF file, a document, an image, a piece of text, a file, an audio or video file, a screen capture, url address, an email, or any combination thereof.

Title of a Note
The title is whatever you want to name your note. Click on the title and type it in.

Security of a Note
Notes can be Encrypted with PasswordsWarning, if you lose your password you lose your information. Evernote cannot retrieve it for youYou cannot encrypt an entire note or notebook, just a selection

Select the Text you want to encrypt

Right-Click (mouse) on the selected text and select “Encrypt Selected Text”
Put in your Password and a Hint

Double click on the lock and put in your password to open the text…

Tag – “Your it!”
Tags
Word[s] attached to a note that identifies the subject of the note.Can group many notes by topicEach note may have multiple tags or none at all. Notes can be searched by using Tags.
To Add a Tag
Click to the right of the tag icon or the last tag and type in your tag. If you already have that tag, it will automatically pop up and let you click on it.

If a tag has been used before it will come up for you.
View Notes
Click on the icon by the notes and look at the view options and the sort orders.
List View
Lists the notes with no graphics and shows a preview in the pane below..
Snippet View
Notes have graphic description on the left and the note is shown in the right pane.
Card View
The Card View shows the notes in greater descripton and a preview on the right.
Notebooks
Notebooks
Container used for storing notes so you can organize your notesYou can have up to 250 notebooks.

Make a Default Notebook called Inbox
This notebook will be the one that notes go into if you don’t specify a notebook.
Rename First Notebook
Right-Click (Mouse) and click on “Rename”
This will be your Default Notebook
Type in Inbox over the “First Notebook”
Make sure the “Make this my default notebook” is checked
Click on Settings
Creating a Notebook
File – New Notebook – [choose between synced or local notebook]Local notebook only lives on your computer not in the cloud. It will not be available on other devices.
Type in the Name of Your New Notebook
Right-Click (mouse) on your notebook for other options including create and rename.
Moving Notes into a Notebook
Click on the Note to add
Drag the Note into the Notebook
Click on the Notebook – The note is in there
The Left Panel View
Click on ViewClick on Left PanelClick on the options you would like to see on the Left Hand Column

You can choose what options you want to show in this panel.Click on the Notebooks and collapse if you want.
Stacks
Stack
Stack – A group of your notebooks kept togetherContainer for notebooks.
Organizes notebooks. Stack might contain family history stack holding all of your family history notebooks in one place.
Each stack counts as a notebook.

Drag a notebook onto another notebook to create a stack orDrag a notebook into an existing stackRight-click (mouse) on a stack to rename it
