What is FAFSA?

Free Application for Federal Student Aid

www.fafsa.ed.gov

Whether or not you think you’ll qualify for aid you MUST apply!!!!

Page 12: Getting Into College Deerfield Beach High School.

How FAFSA works

You must have a current FAFSA complete to qualify for scholarships, grants and/or subsidized loans;

• Grants you don’t pay back (unless you fail the class!);

• Loans you pay back once you’re out of college for a semester;

• A subsidized loan means the government pays the interest on your loan until you begin to pay it back.

How FAFSA Works con’t.

To submit a FAFSA, the student MUST be a permanent resident or citizen of the United States (even if parents are not);

• However, for parents to have access to loans they, too must be permanent residents or citizens of the United State;

• Copies of the 2010 Tax Return must be used to complete the FAFSA;

• However, it can be submitted using the information on your last paystub or W2 for 2010.
