    Report 4: Sources of Information

About Federal Stimulus Funds Nonprofits interested in applying for grants for federal funds

whether directly to federal agencies or to state and local

governments that received federal funds must remain vigilant inthese fast-paced times to remain informed.

National/Federal Information Initiall the best sources will be the new www.recover . ov website and for rant

information, the established federal website, www.grants.gov. Eventually, the websites ofthe various federal agencies overseeing particular funds should have quality informationas well.

Report 5: Information about the Proposed

    Changes in Charitable Deductions

Three different federal budget bills that have filled

news headlines the last month (February, 2009). One federal budget matter (the stimulus package) has been enacted

already. Another (the delinquent 2009 federal budget) should be

enacted as earl as this week. The third the Presidents ro osed

budget for 2010) likely will not be voted on for months. This last one has generated lots of concern and confusion among

nonprofits and some donors because it proposes to reduce the

amount that high-income individuals can deduct from their taxes

for charitable contributions in order to help pay the largest part of

health care reform. Even if Congress agreed with the reduction, it would not apply to anyone until at the

    earliest January 2011.

Report 6: An Action Agenda for

America's Economic Recovery The nonprofit sector along with the business and government sectors

is a required third leg of the stool on which American communities

depend. Yet too often in recent years, the nonprofit sector has beenignored, overlooked, and taken for granted. Styled as an action document, the Declaration offers concrete ways nonprofits can help Americas

economic recovery and calls for a reinvigorated partnership between the government and

nonprofit sectors to address our countrys economic challenges and improve the quality of

    community life.
