IBM® DB2® Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature extends the capabilitiesprovided in DB2 Performance Expert by providing end-to-end database monitoringfor Java™ technology applications, with even more capabilities for those running inIBM WebSphere® Application Server. This feature gives you the capability toaddress performance issues, regardless of where they occur in the software stack.This tutorial will help you get started with DB2 Performance Expert Extended InsightFeature. Section 1. Introduction

DBAs today must deal with complex performance problems that often requireinsights beyond those provided by monitoring tools that focus solely on databaseinteractions. Java technology database applications are often part of complex,multi-tiered environments in which it can take hours, days, or more to solve aproblem and require the input of IT staff in other areas, such as networking andapplications. DBAs need a way to gain insight into database performance as itrelates to other layers in the software stack so they have the information they needto find and fix problems quickly, whether the problem is in the database or

somewhere else.

DB2 Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature extends the capabilities providedin DB2 Performance Expert by providing end-to-end database monitoring for Javatechnology applications, with even more capabilities for those running in WebSphereApplication Server. It can provide insight into any stop along the software stack, fromwhen the SQL is issued from the application, through the application server,database server, and operating system. It provides insight into response times thatare closer to what end users are experiencing, and it provides valuable informationto pass on to network and applications administrators when their help is required tofix a problem.

About this tutorial

After a discussion of sample configurations, this tutorial walks you through installing,configuring, and validating the DB2 Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature.The main steps include the following:

• Verify you have the right prerequisites

• Install the software on the necessary servers

• Activate the Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature

• Optional: Enable Performance Expert Extended Insight with WebSphereApplication Server

• Configure the Performance Expert client to recognize the ExtendedInsight Feature

• Run a workload to validate that data is being collected

Prerequisites

This tutorial assumes you have a Java technology database application you want tomonitor. To install Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature 3.2, you need thefollowing installed on Microsoft® Windows® or UNIX®:

• DB2 9.1 or later

• If using WebSphere Application Server, you need Version 6 with Fixpack21 or Version 7

• If using Java Application, you need a particular JCC and SQL driver,which is documented in the "Verify you have the right prerequisites: JavaClient Driver (IBM Driver for JDBC and SQLJ)" section

• Performance Expert V3.2 or later (installed and configured) to monitoryour target database

The differences between Windows and UNIX are highlighted throughout the tutorial.

Section 2. Performance Expert Extended Insight Featurearchitecture: A sample configuration

The Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature has two components that mustbe installed:

• Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature Activation

• Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature Client

You must install the Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature Activation Kit onyour Performance Expert Server, which licenses your Performance Expert Server touse the extended insight capabilities.

You must install the Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature Client on thefollowing units:

• On all database client machines that are to be monitored

• On all machines with the IBM Data Server Driver for JDBC and SQLJ thatare collecting monitoring data

Figure 1 illustrates a configuration using DB2 Performance Expert Extended InsightFeature to monitor Java applications that access DB2 on Linux®, UNIX, andWindows. The Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature Client is installed onthe box where your Java application is located, which uses the IBM Data ServerDriver for JDBC and SQLJ for database access.

Figure 2 shows a typical sample configuration that includes WebSphere ApplicationServer. The Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature Client is installed on theWebSphere Application Server.

Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature Activation (License) is installed on thePerformance Expert V3.2 Server. By using DB2 Performance Expert end-to-endmonitor, the DBA now has insight into the WebSphere Application Serverconfiguration, number of connection pool size max, connection pool size high watermark, max allowed in connection pool size, client time, network time, and more.

Mixing your UNIX platforms

With DB2 Performance Expert Extended Insight, you can use different UNIXplatforms (IBM AIX®, Sun Solaris, Linux 32-bit, Linux 64-bit, and HPU-UX). Forexample, DB2 Performance Expert Server could be on AIX, and WebSphereApplication Server, the Java technology application, or both could be on Linux. Forthis tutorial, the DB2 Performance Expert Sever is on AIX, and the WebSphereApplication Server is on Linux 64-bit.

Section 3. Verify you have the right prerequisites

You need to verify that DB2, Performance Expert V3.2, and the optional WebSphereApplication Server are at the minimum-required levels to run Performance ExpertExtended Insight feature, as described in the "Prerequisites" section. For moredetails, see "IBM DB2 Performance Expert for Linux, UNIX, and WindowsInstallation and Configuration" document (see Resources).

Verify DB2 level

Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature requires a minimum of DB2 9 for themonitored DB2. It's recommended to have DB2 9, Fix Pack 5 or DB2 9.5 (base). Tovalidate what level you have, open a DB2 command window. Enter the commanddb2level, then press the Enter key. Figure 3 shows an example of db2level

Verify DB2 Performance Expert server level

The minimum required version of DB2 Performance Expert is 3.2. It's stronglyrecommended that you also install DB2 Performance Expert V3.2 Fix Pack 2 (seeResources for a link). To validate what level you have on Windows, open a DB2command window and enter pelevel. Figure 3 shows an example of peleveloutput:

On UNIX, log in as the PE DB2 instance owner. Then from the <Performance ExpertInstallation>/bin directory, enter pelevel. Figure 4 shows an example of peleveloutput in UNIX:

Verify WebSphere Application Server level (optional)

Performance Expert Extended Insight requires WebSphere Application Server V6.1,Fix Pack 21 or WebSphere Application Server V7. WebSphere Application ServerV6 and WebSphere Application Server V7 both require additional ifix APARPK74962. To obtain the ifix, contact WebSphere Support. If you're runningWebSphere Application Server V6.1.0.25, V7.0.0.5, or later, then you do not need toapply any additional fixes to your WebSphere Application Server.

To find your WebSphere Application Server version, enter versioninfo.bat foryour Windows environment and versionInfo.sh for your UNIX environment. Thedefault WebSphere Application Server install directory for Windows is<app_server_root>\bin; for UNIX, it is <app_server_root>/bin. (app_server_rootdenotes the default install directory for WebSphere Application Server.)

The following list shows the default installation root directories for WebSphereApplication Server for each platfom:

• AIX: /usr/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer

• HP-UX: /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer

• Linux: /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer

• Solaris: /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer

• Windows: C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer

V6.1 Web site (see Resources).

By default, WebSphere Application Server is installed in system-owned directories.Root user or administrator user (on a Windows system) may be required to accessthese default directories.

WebSphere Application Server can be installed in any directory where you havewrite access. Profiles can be created in any valid directory where you have writeaccess.

As shown in Figure 5 and Figure 6, the Installation Status Reports (for Windows andUNIX, respectively) indicate that WebSphere Application Server is at V6.1 Fix Pack21, which is the minimum support level. Even if you run the versionInfocommand using any of the additional parameters, the ifix APAR PK74962 will not beincluded in the report.

To start WebSphere Application Server from the Windows desktop, click on Start >Programs > IBM WebSphere Application Servers Network Deployment V6.1 >Profiles > <profile_name> > Start the server, as shown in Figure 7:

If you prefer to use the command line, enter <profile_root>\bin\startServer.bat <server>.




For UNIX, enter <profile_root>/bin/startServer.sh <server>.

<profile_root> denotes the following default directories for a profile <profile_name>for each platform:

• AIX: /usr/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/<profile_name>

• HP-UX: /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/<profile_name>

• Linux: /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/<profile_name>

• Solaris: /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/<profile_name>

• Windows: C:\ProgramFiles\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\profiles\<profile_name>

<profile_name> denotes the profile you assigned to your WebSphere ApplicationServer, and <server> denotes the name of the application server to start.

To verify your WebSphere Application Server is running, from a Windows commandline enter <profile_root>\bin serverstatus.bat <server>–profileName <profile_name>.

Let's take a look at an example. Notice in Figure 9 that the <profile_name> isAppSrv02 and the <server> is server1:

1. C:\ProgramFiles\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\profiles\AppSrv02\binserverstatus.bat server1 –profileName AppSrv01

2. Enter serverstatus.bat server1 –profileName AppSrv01.

From UNIX, from the command prompt, enter<profile_root>/bin/serverStatus.sh <server> –profileName<profile_name>.

Let's take a look at an example. Notice in Figure 10 that the <profile_name> isAppSrv01 and the <server> is server1:

1. /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/AppSrv01/bin

2. Enter ./serverStatus.sh server1.

Java Client Driver (IBM Driver for JDBC and SQLJ)

To verify your Java client driver, go to the jcc driver directory, then enter thefollowing command (as shown in Figures 11 and 12):

java –cp "<Path for your jcc driver>\db2jcc.jar" com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2Jcc –version

Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature requires a JDBC Type 4 driver to




connect to the Data Server. The following JCC drivers are supported:

• JCC 3.53 with APAR IZ43011 for JDBC 3 clients or later

• JCC 4.3 with APAR IZ43011 for JDBC 4 clients or later

Note: To use Performance Expert Extended Insight, you must have at the minimumJCC version. 3.53.72. Refer to "How to find IBM DB2 Driver for JDBC and SQLJversion and environment information" in the DB2 9 for Linux, UNIX, and WindowsInformation Center for more information (see Resources for a link).

Section 4. Install the DB2 Performance Expert ExtendedInsight Feature Client on the necessary servers

Now that you have verified the DB2 Performance Expert Extended Insightprerequisites, the next step is to install the Performance Expert Extended InsightFeature Client.

As mentioned previously, you must install Performance Expert Extended InsightFeature on the following units:

• All database client machines that are to be monitored

• All machines with IBM Data Server Driver for JDBC and SQLJ that arecollecting monitoring data




Note: A common mistake is to install the Performance Expert Extended InsightFeature Client component on the Performance Expert Server or on the PerformanceExpert Client system. Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature Client needs tobe installed on all your WebSphere Server machines, all machines with IBM DataServer Driver for JDBC and SQLJ, or both.

The Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature Client collects valuableperformance data then transfers the performance data back to the PerformanceExpert Server where you have enabled the Performance Expert Extended InsightFeature. Later on in this tutorial, you will see how to enable (activate) yourPerformance Expert Extended Insight Feature.

1. Run the Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature Client executable.Here is a list of executables for each platform:

• AIX: IBM_PE_EI_V3_2_AIX.bin

• HP-UX: IBM_PE_EI_V3_2_HPUX_ia64.bin

• Linux: IBM_PE_EI_V3_2_Linux_x86.bin

• Solaris: IBM_PE_EI_V3_2_Solaris_Sparc.bin

• Windows: IBM_PE_EI_V3_2_Windows.exe

2. Go through the install screens. (You will need to do this on each of theservers listed above.)Figure 13. Installation screen: Choose installation directory




3. After you have installed the client, you need to apply the PerformanceExpert Extended Insight Feature Fix Pack. (See Resources for a link todownload the Fix Pack for Performance Expert Extended Insight.)

Section 5. Activate the Performance Expert ExtendedInsight Feature

1. To license Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature, run thePerformance Expert Extended Insight activation executable.Here is a list of executables for each platform:

• AIX: activateEI.sh

• HP-UX: activateEI.sh

• Linux: activateEI.sh




• Solaris: activateEI.sh

• Windows: activateEI.bat

2. Go through the necessary screens.

3. Click on the Activate the priced feature radio button to specify aninstallation where you would like to activate pureQuery priced feature,then click on Next, as shown in Figure 14:Figure 14. Installation screen: Activate your Performance ExpertExtended Insight Feature

4. Enter the installation directory for Performance Expert, then click on Nextto proceed.Here is a list of default Performance Expert installation directories foreach platform:

• AIX: /opt/IBM/db2pesrv/v3

• HP-UX: /opt/IBM/db2pesrv/v3

• Linux: /opt/IBM/db2pesrv/v3




• Solaris: /opt/IBM/db2pesrv/v3

• Windows: C:\Program Files\IBM\IBM DB2 Performance Expert ServerV3

5. Select the I accept the terms in the license agreement radio button,then click on Next:Figure 16. Installation screen: Accept license agreement

Section 6. (Optional) Enable DB2 Performance ExpertExtended Insight on your WebSphere V6.1 Fix Pack 21+ ifix

1. Start the WebSphere Application Server.

2. Open a Web browser, then enter the URL for your WebSphereApplication Server Integrated Solutions Console. For example,https://localhost:9043/ibm/console/logon.jsp.In Windows, you can start the WebSphere Application Sever forAppSrv01 profile by either entering the above URL or by clicking on Start> All Programs > IBM WebSphere > Application Server NetworkDeployment V6.1 > Profiles > AppSrv01 > Administration Console.

From the command line in UNIX, enter<profile_root>/bin/startServer.sh <server>; or for Windows,




enter <profile_root>\bin\ startServer.bat <server>.

<profile_root> denotes the following default directories for a profile<profile_name> for each platform:


• HP-UX: /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/<profile_name>


• Solaris: /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/<profile_name>


<profile_name> denotes the profile you assigned to your WebSphereApplication Server, and <server> denotes the name of the applicationserver to start.

6. Scroll down the page, and click on the Class path text box.

8. Enter the Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature pdq.jar file, thenhit the Enter key to create a new line.Here is a list of default locations of the Performance Expert ExtendedInsight Feature pdq.jar file for each platform:

• AIX: /opt/IBM/DB2 Performance Expert Extended InsightFeature/pureQuery/ pdq.jar

9. Enter the Performance Expert Extended Insight pdqmgmt.jar file:Here is a list of default location of the Performance Expert ExtendedInsight Feature pdqmgmt.jar file for each platform:

• AIX: /opt/IBM/DB2 Performance Expert Extended InsightFeature/pureQuery/ pdqmgmt.jar

• HP-UX: /opt/IBM/DB2 Performance Expert Extended InsightFeature/pureQuery/ pdqmgmt.jar

12. If you are running WebSphere Application Server V7, then you are done.Click on Logout.If you're running WebSphere Application Server V6, then you will need tocreate and specify customer properties for your enterprise informationsystem (EIS) data source to access DB2. Note: You only need to do thisfor WebSphere Application Server V6.

a. From the main menu on the left side of the screen, selectResources > JDBC > Data Sources.

e. Enter the following field information, then click on Apply:

• Name: enableEndToEndMonitoringFeature

g. Scroll down to verify the entry has been added. You may have toclick on the "Next" button (right arrow) to view the next page:

13. Close the browser.

14. After you make changes to the WebSphere Application Server, you needto stop and restart it.

a. To stop the WebSphere Applications Server from the Windowsdesktop, click on Start > All Programs > IBM WebSphere >Application Server Network Deployment V6.1 > Profiles >

Section 7. Configure the Performance Expert Client torecognize Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature

1. Make sure the Performance Expert Server is running. On Windows, toverify the Performance Expert Server is running, open the WindowsServices, then scroll down until you see the service name "DB2Performance Expert Server V3 on <your DB2 instance name>":Figure 36. From UNIX, enter <Performance Expert Installationdirectory>/bin/pestatus to verify the Performance Expert Server is

2. Start your Performance Expert Client by clicking on the IBM DB2Performance Expert Client V3 desktop icon:

3. After opening the Performance Expert client, you need to log in and thenedit the monitored DB2 instance to enable the Performance ExpertExtended Insight Feature.

4. Click on the instance you wish to enable for Performance ExpertExtended Insight Feature on the left side of the window under Allinstances:Figure 38. Performance Expert Extended Insight Dashboard: Clickon DB2 Instance you want to monitor




5. Double-click on DB2 to log in to the Performance Expert Server for thisDB2 monitored instance.

7. After you have logged in, right-click on DB2 and select Properties fromthe drop-down menu:Figure 40. Performance Expert properties: Configuration settings

9. Select the check box next to Collect end-to-end data. After you selectthe check box, notice the end-to-dnd configuration parameters becomeactive:Figure 42. Performance Expert Extended Insight: End-to-End tabcheck box

Section 8. Run a workload to validate data is beingcollected

Now that you have started the Performance Expert Client and enabled theend-to-end configuration:

1. Press the F5 key to refresh the screen.




2. Click on the monitored database under your WebSphere Application inthe left side of the System Overview window.

3. Click on the End-to-End tab to change the focus of the System Overview:Figure 44. Performance Expert Extended Insight tab

Notice the screen has NP for the different counters. NP stands for notpresent. Since you haven’t started a workload yet, nothing is beingcollected.

4. Start your Java technology application or WebSphere Application tocreate a workload against the DB2 database that Performance Expert isconfigured to run against:Figure 46. Start your Java technology application or WebSphereApplication

5. Let your application run for about 5-20 minutes.

6. From the System Overview window, click on Refresh Off, then selectAutomatic. This enables current history mode (that is, data is beingcollected and displayed in real time):Figure 47. Enable refresh rate for Performance Expert ExtendedInsight: System Overview window

7. Enter 45 in the refresh rate box, and click on the green check mark toaccept the changes:Figure 48. Set Performance Expert Extended Insight refresh rate

8. Change the monitoring period to 5 minutes by clicking on the drop-downmenu next to Monitoring period: Last. This will allow you to view the last5 minutes of history on the System Overview window.Figure 49. Change monitoring period
