Are you a young adult carer? The support I get from my YAC adviser in college is brilliant. I can easily talk to him about what is going on at home and he really cares about how I am feeling Thank you for helping me through difficult times and helping me become who I am today Sometimes when you’re a carer, you don’t think of yourself but with YACs you can work on yourself...it helps you see possibilities rather than worries Since being on the ‘Be Your Own Best Friend’ course I have had a driving lesson. I had been putting this off. I also make myself talk to people now. We support:
Young adult carers (YACs)A young person, who is caring for or emotionally affected by one or more family members who have a physical or mental illness, disability or misuse drugs or alcohol.
Sibling carersA young person who is affected by a brother or sister’s disability, illness or additional need.
Caring for a family member isn’t always ‘doing something’ to help. The impact of caring for someone can often lead to young people feeling angry, isolated, or they may worry about the person or what is happening at home.
