Education Week and Book Week The theme for 2019 Education Week was Every Student, Every Voice. It is a celebration of student empowerment and how the NSW public education system gives students the skills they need in order to have and express a voice during their own educational journey and as engaged global citizens. Last week we celebrated Education and Book Week through our Book Parade, Open Classrooms and Book Fair. A big thank you to all those who helped us celebrate. IILA Excellence One of the events we hold to celebrate Education Week is our IILA Excellence Awards. These awards recognise outstanding commitment to learning from our students and staff. This year, awards were given out to the following students: Erin Forrester (Year 3) Chloe Lang (Year 3) Jorja Newstead (Year 4) Jasmyn Mascord (Year 4) Shae Musgrove (Year 5) Jasmine Davey (Year 5) Malakai Newstead (Year 6) Belinda Smith (Year 6) For the first time this year, we also celebrated teaching excellence. Our staff nominated a number of deserving staff but the decision was made to recognise Mrs Brown with the award. Congratulations Mrs Brown. Kindergarten 2020 A reminder that we are still taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2020. If you know someone who lives in our school zone with a child starting school next year, please remind them to contact the school. A flyer with more information about transition is contained in this newsletter. Welcome back Mrs Furner Glendale East is tremendously excited about welcoming back Ms Lisa Furner to our school. Ms Furner is a very experienced, excellent educator who will be running a number of new and exciting programs in our school. These programs will include offering extra support to students with learning difficulties in Years K-2, running an extension program for students in years 3-6 and assisting classes trial a form of teaching called Project Based Learning. We will communicate more about these programs over the course of the term. Kind regards, Mr Forbes

KA have been very busy as usual enjoying many varied and exciting learning experiences. Some recent highlights have included celebrating Education week and Book week. It was great to see stu-dents put in such a big effort into coming up with such creative and original costumes and we really enjoyed welcoming families into our open classroom and later parading. Earlier this term we were proud to perform our short play based on a book by Julia Donaldson. It can be a little bit nerve racking getting up in front of the whole school to present your very first class item and after some very dedicated rehearsals we were proud to perform ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ which turned out to be a lot of fun and was enjoyed by all. Another great thing that Kindergarten are involved in along with all the infants classes are our Sci-ence, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) rotations. This involves all the infants classes rotating around over the Term to different learning experiences including Coding, Robotics, Science investigations, Movie Making, Problem Solving and Design, Nature Play and Critical and Creative thinking tasks. KA have LOVED participating most re-cently in Nature Play and have enjoyed some of the many benefits that this engaging activity is de-signed to offer the students including researched academic benefits such as:-
Improved classroom behaviour;
Increased student motivation and enthusiasm to learn;
Better performance in maths, science, reading and inquiry learning;
Higher levels of classroom engagement;
Higher scores on standardised tests; and
Helps students to perform measurably better in school.
Through Nature play students are given opportunities to develop dispositions such as Inquisitiveness, reasonableness, intellectual flexibility, open and fairmindedness, a readiness to try new ways of doing things and persistence! And all this while having a fantastic fun time!

REQUEST FOR ALL SCHOOL MAINTENANCE LOCAL TRADES PROVIDERS AND
SUPPLIERS
The NSW Government has committed the largest investment in planned maintenance at
public schools in the history of NSW. A record $1.3 billion is being spent on an ambitious
delivery program, focused on employing local businesses and contractors across the
state.
To assist in addressing regional school maintenance issues and at the same time
provide work for local trade’s persons and suppliers across the Hunter/Central Coast
regions, over $100 million is being invested to upgrade and maintain our school
Infrastructure.
Given this record spend by School Infrastructure NSW, you are invited to an Asset
Management Unit industry breakfast briefing. This will provide information to existing and
new contractors on how you can get involved.
