THE SERIES• This will be the seventh meeting in the series, which began in 1965. The teams renewed the series in 2014-15 as members of the Sun Belt Conference, and both contests were settled by a combined six points. Five of the six meetings in the series have been decided by six points or less.• The Eagles' 40-36 win over Texas State (1/3/15) was their fewest points allowed since Dec. 5, 1987, when they held Savannah State to 36 points. It is the first 40-36 game in the shot clock era and ranks in a tie for 19th lowest scoring game for two teams combined and the lowest scoring Sun Belt game in the shot clock era.• GS is 4-0 against Texas State at home.• Last Meeting - 2/18/17 - Hanner Fieldhouse: Tookie Brown hit two free throws with five seconds remaining in the game and scored 21 points as Georgia Southern held off Texas State for a 70-67 win.• Brown was 6 of 10 from the field and 3 of 5 on 3-point-ers, but his six free throws were the difference in the win. Ike Smith dropped in 17 points for GS and also grabbed six rebounds, while Jake Allsmiller canned three triples for nine points.• Kavin Gilder-Tilbury led the Bobcats and was the top scorer in the game with 22 points, and Nijal Pearson tallied 10 points and five rebounds. Texas State hit only 22 field goals in the game, but 10 of them were 3-pointers.• After racing out to a 17-point lead in the first half, the Eagles saw the Bobcats out-score them 41-32 in the second half as Texas State drained seven 3-pointers in the period.• The Bobcats closed a 12-point halftime deficit to four, 59-55, on a pair of Pearson free throws with 4:38 to go. Brown answered with a 3-pointer, and the Eagles pushed the lead to nine on a monster dunk by Smith with 2:11 to play.• GS left the door open with some missed free throws late, and Bobby Conley's triple with six seconds left made it a one-point game. Brown was fouled and hit both from the line with five seconds to go. Ojai Black's 3-point try at the buzzer was short, and Mike Hughes corralled the rebound as the Eagles held on for the big win.

It was the second time the junior has won SBC Player of the Week in his career.• Tookie Brown won SBC Player of the Week Dec. 12, after tallying 32 points and five assists against Savannah State. It was his third career SBC Player of the Week honor.• Brown has been named to the 2017-18 Lou Henson Award midseason Watch List.• The award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I mid-major player and will be announced March 31, 2018, at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Event in San Antonio, site of the men's NCAA Basketball Championship.
TALKING 1K• Ike Smith became the third active Eagle to reach 1,000 points with a jumper 1:40 into the game in the season opener at Wake Forest Nov. 10. It was the first basket of the 2017-18 season.• Mike Hughes reached the mark in the final game against Utah Valley last season. It was the last basket of the 2016-
17 campaign.• Tookie Brown scored his 1,000th career point at Ap-palachian State Feb. 13, 2017. He is the first Eagle in the program's modern era to reach the mark as a sophomore. Two Eagles did it in their second seasons at Georgia South-ern (Elton Nesbitt and Johnny Mills).• Jake Allsmiller is 176 points away from 1,000.• GS, Seton Hall (3) and St. Mary's (4) are the only three schools in the country with at least three 1,000-point scor-ers on the roster.• Three Eagles reached the mark in the same season once. Young (1989-93), Dwayne Foreman (2004-08) and Terry Williams (2001-05). • Brown is 33 points away from becoming the third Eagle to post 1,500 points and 300 assists, joining C.Y. Young (1,517 pts, 530 asts) and Jelani Hewitt (1,180 pts, 340 asts).

The Eagles were held scoreless and missed 10 straight shots over 4:03 of the stretch.
TOUGH SCHEDULE• The Eagles played non-conference games against three teams that won 20-plus games last year and two NCAA tournament participants.
