Dear Georgia Regents Homecoming Court Candidate, The 2014 Homecoming Planning Committee and Student Life & Engagement is excited to present GRU Homecoming 2014, JAGUAR LOVE. Homecoming at Georgia Regents University includes a variety of events and activities showcasing pride in the university while uniting students, alumni, friends, family and the Augusta community. The 2014 GRU Homecoming will be celebrated from February 10th through 15th, 2014. The week will offer many events for everyone to celebrate GRU. The week begins with “Wear GRU Get Food,” in the JSAC Breezeway and concludes at the Homecoming Game on Saturday, February 15th, 2014. The 2014 Homecoming Planning Committee and Student Life & Engagement invites students and organizations to participate in the events that have been planned. All Georgia Regents Homecoming Court Candidates must be sponsored by an active student organization to compete. Attached is a description of each event that comprises the Homecoming Competition as a well as a full list of events. Please read each event’s description to get an idea of what each part of Homecoming entails. If you still have questions after reading the descriptions, please do not hesitate to contact the Assistant Director for Student Programs, Jessica L. Haskins. Georgia Regents Homecoming Court Candidates are encouraged to attend and participate in every event competing for points. The eligibility/requirements to be a Georgia Regents Homecoming Court Candidate are outlined below. Following the submission of applicants, everyone competing for Georgia Regents Homecoming Court, ultimately Homecoming King & Queen in Homecoming 2014 MUST attend one of the two Mandatory Candidate Meeting’s, which will take place on Wednesday, February 5th at 10:00 AM or 5:00 PM in the JSAC Skinner Conference Room. The 2014 Homecoming Planning Committee will explain 2014 GRU Homecoming, JAGUAR LOVE! in further detail and answer any questions you may have. We are excited to share this historically spirited week with you and hope for your Homecoming experience to be welcoming and memorable! Georgia Regents Homecoming Court Process Georgia Regents Homecoming Court 2014 will be chosen as a combination of a Popular Vote of the Student Body (30%), the Meet & Greet/Interview (30%), and School Spirit and Participation in Homecoming 2014 Events (40%). The following formula is used for this calculation: (Popular Vote x 30%) + (Meet & Greet/Interview Score x 30%) + (Homecoming Spirit Points x 40%) = Total Score The top five (5) (maximum) candidates running for each Homecoming King & Queen that have the highest total scores will be the individuals elected towards the 2014 Georgia Regents Homecoming Court. The 2014 Georgia Regents Homecoming Court will be the only individuals to participate in the Coronation Ceremony on Saturday, February 15th, 2014. The individuals receiving the highest total score from will be selected as the 2014 Homecoming King & Queen. Grievance Guidelines: Any and all grievances applying to the GRU Homecoming 2014 events must be put in writing via the online grievance form on the Homecoming website to the Homecoming Planning Committee no later than 5:00 PM the day after the incident occurs. The Homecoming Planning Committee will call a Special Meeting to discuss alleged grievance and decide on actions to take if needed. All decisions will be reviewed by the Dean for Campus Life.

Georgia Regents Homecoming Court Candidate Information

Candidates for 2014 Georgia Regents Homecoming Court must meet and follow all of the requirements as outlined below. Eligibility & Requirements for Candidates: All candidates must meet ALL of the following criteria for eligibility:

1. Must be currently enrolled in Spring 2014 full-time (Undergraduates, 12 Credit Hours & Graduates, 9 Credit Hours).

2. Must be a returning student for the 2014-2015 academic years, graduating no earlier than December 2014.

3. Must have completed at least two full-time semesters, this may include summer. a. Undergraduates are eligible after receiving at least 28 semester credit

hours or more of course work, being at a least sophomore status. b. Graduate students are more than welcome to apply, graduate program

coursework equal to two-full time semesters is expected.

4. Must have a GPA of 2.25 or higher. 5. Must be a student in good university standing with a clear disciplinary

record. 6. Must complete and pass a Background Check.

a. If you are aware that your Background Check may not pass, please contact the Assistant Director for Student Programs to give you the next appropriate steps for appeal.

7. Must be sponsored by an active student organization. The student organization must be on the approved active student list for the current semester. Organizations may sponsor a total of two (2) candidates, one male and one female.

After the candidate meets the above requirements, they then are responsible for fulfilling the following requirements:

1. Must complete and submit appropriate online forms and application materials by Friday, January 31st at 5:00 PM. a. Candidate Application and Biography Questions (Online), Chartered

Student Organization Acknowledgement Statement, and Criminal Background Check Form all must be completed by the due date above.

b. The Candidate Biography and Question will be used for publications, including but not limited to the Bell Ringer and Coronation Ceremony.

2. Must attend one of the two Mandatory Candidate Meetings: a. Wednesday, February 5th at 10:00 AM, JSAC Skinner Conference

Room. b. Wednesday, February 5th at 5:00 PM, JSAC Skinner Conference Room.

3. Must attend one of the following Photograph Sessions at the Lee Auditorium (BC-129): a. Thursday, February 6th from 8:00-8:30 AM b. Thursday, February 6th from 10:00-10;30 AM

*Professional headshots will be taken by the university photographer for publications used during Homecoming 2014; therefore everyone is required to be in professional dress (waist up). *NO PRINTS OR LOGOS ALLOWED.

4. Must attend the Mandatory Candidate Rehearsal: a. Friday, February 7th from 11:00 AM-12:30 PM, Christenberry

Fieldhouse 5. Must attend and participate in the Candidate Meet & Greet/Interview

a. The Candidate Meet & Greet/Interview attire is business professional. b. Each candidate is allowed to bring one guest to this event.

6. Must attend and participate in the Jaguar Jam. 7. If elected as a member of the Georgia Regents Homecoming Court, you

must attend and participate in the Coronation Ceremony on Saturday, February 15th arriving with their escort at 3:00 PM in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

will be the only individuals to participate in the Coronation Ceremony.

a. The Coronation Ceremony attire is semi-formal. All participants; including Georgia Regents Homecoming Court members and escorts must be ready upon arrival at 3:00 PM.

b. Everyone is to report to Entrance 3 of Christenberry Fieldhouse. c. If the court member’s escort is not a GRU student, they will receive a

complimentary pass for them to gain entry to the game. d. Each court member will receive two additional guest passes for the

games. e. All Georgia Regents Homecoming Court members are required to stay

throughout the duration of the men’s basketball game. Candidates who are unable to attend any of these mandatory events because of class conflict must state this and provide a copy of their official class schedule in their application submission. In the case of an unexpected emergency during Homecoming 2014, contact Jessica L. Haskins at Student Life & Engagement as soon as possible at (706) 737-1610 so that alternative arrangements can be discussed. Failure to contact with Student Life & Engagement before any mandatory event absence will result in automatic disqualification. Homecoming King & Queen Winner Requirements: The individuals crowned Homecoming King & Queen are requested to serve as an ambassador to the University by serving in various capacities:

1. Volunteer during one of the various University Advancement events at Georgia Regents University.

2. Serve on the Homecoming Committee during their term. 3. Make appearances (including but not limited to television, and speaking

engagements) as asked by the Homecoming Committee. 4. Assist in the coordination of the Homecoming 2014, Candidate Meet &

Greet/Interview. 5. Attend and participate as needed in Jaguar Jam. 6. Must participate in the Homecoming 2014 Coronation Ceremony.

Georgia Regents Homecoming Court Elections Monday, February 10th-Thursday, February 13th, 2014 The Homecoming 2014, Georgia Regents Homecoming Court Elections will take place online, a link will be provided to all students through email.

“Wear GRU Get Food” Monday, February 10th, 2014, 11:00 AM- 2:00 PM JSAC Breezeway “Wear GRU Get Food” is an event that will provide free food to the first 500 students that wear GRU attire and school colors. If you do not wear GRU attire, show you are following #GRUHomecoming! The students will also have the opportunity to participate in fun interactive activities throughout the JSAC. Karaoke Day Tuesday, February 11th, 2014, 11:00 AM-2:00 PM JSAC Breezeway Karaoke Day is an opportunity for all GRU students to celebrate Homecoming by singing fun tunes and promoting the Annual Lip-Sync Competition. Come join the Jaguar Production Crew for a fun time singing your favorite songs! Annual Lip Sync Competition Wednesday, February 12th, 2014, 7:30-9:30 PM, Doors Open at 7:00 PM Lee Auditorium It’s Homecoming Week and that means it’s time to showcase your organization through a Lip Sync Competition! Join the Jaguar Production Crew and take a break from studying for an evening of fun, laughter, and memories. Emcee of the night will be Comedian Jacob Williams, as featured on NBC’s America’s Got Talent and MTV’s Wildin’ Out! This event is free 4 GRU Students! All rules are subject to change at the discretion of

the Student Life & Engagement and the 2014 Homecoming Planning Committee. Participating

individuals will be notified if any changes are made in a timely manner.

All decisions made by the Student Life &

Engagement and the 2014 Homecoming Planning Committee are final.

*If any competitor arrives more than 15 minutes past the time designated in this packet, 10 points

will be automatically reduced from the participation points for the event.

All Homecoming events are ALCOHOL AND

ILLEGAL SUBSTANCE FREE!

If any individual including someone in your organization brings alcohol to/or appears to be

under the influence at ANY Homecoming event/activity, your organization will be

DISQUALIFIED FROM ALL OF HOMECOMING AND THAT INDIVIDUAL WILL BE ESCORTED OUT OF

THE EVENT.

GRU HOMECOMING 2014, JAUGAR LOVE!

MEET & GREET/INTERVIEW JUDGING CRITERIA: Poise & Appearance 10 Points School Spirit/Knowledge of University 10 Points Leadership 10 Points Campus Involvement 10 Points Community Engagement 10 Points TOTAL 50 Points CANDIDATE POINTS AWARDED: Basketball Game on Wednesday, February 12th, 2014 at 5:30 PM Attendance 10 Points 1 Point per Sponsoring Organization Member 5 Points Maximum *The candidate and organizations members in attendance must stay after signing. ORGANIZATION POINTS AWARDED: Sponsorship of Georgia Regents Homecoming Court Candidate 10 Points RULES:

1. Campaigning will be held from Friday, February 7th-Thursday, February 13th, 2014. Candidates will be limited to word of mouth, flyers, shirts, buttons, etc. Any other goods for service method, such as give away candy or other materials for a vote is prohibited. a. Campaigning is defined as:

i. The public distribution, posting, or display of any material or information, as specified above, promoting a candidate or candidates.

ii. Any person speaking before an organized group or in a public place with the purpose of promoting a candidate or candidates.

iii. Any activity requesting the vote of a constituent. *Encourage voting in general, without specifying a particular candidate (or candidates) is not campaigning.

2. It is the responsibility of the candidate to educate any and all campaign workers and affiliates as to the rules set forth. Candidates will be held responsible for the actions of their campaign workers. Campaigning outside the campaign period will result in disqualification. a. Candidates must remove all posted campaign materials by Monday,

February 17th, 2014. 3. All flyers must follow Campus Posting Policy.

a. Flyers are defined as: Posters, banners and other printed material. Signs will not be allowed in the following areas:

In the University Libraries or any Administrative Office.

No campaign material may be placed on bulletin boards designated for departmental use.

Material may not be placed on doors to buildings, classrooms or on any windows, bathroom stalls, or any walls.

On the outside of campus buildings. This includes, but is not limited to, brick walls, benches, sidewalks, windows, and doors. This does not include outside bulletin boards.

No campaign material may be placed on any vehicle which is parked for campus purposes.

b. Writing on, or applying self-adhesive materials to GRU Property (including sidewalks, roads, vehicles, and walls) or on private property without permission of the owner is prohibited.

c. The placing of any sign over any other sign is not acceptable. d. Posters or signs may be removed if wrongly placed and the candidate will be

notified. 4. Candidates may use sidewalk chalk, but not under covered areas. Sidewalk chalk

can only be used on the Summerville Campus. 5. No campaigning or campaign materials may be placed within the ten (10) feet of

the defined areas of a voting site. a. Candidates will receive one warning for loitering inside a voting site. b. A second violation for loitering will result in disqualification for the

candidate. 6. The use of the United States Postal Service (USPS) is not permissible. Candidates

will not be allowed to use campus mail for campaign purposes.

CAR CHALKING GRU HOMECOMING 2014, JAGUAR LOVE!

WHEN: Friday, February 7th, 2014 TIME: 1:00-3:00 PM WHERE: Washington Hall Loop WHAT IS CAR CHALKING? Car Chalking is just another way for the organizations and candidates competing to gain extra points and help advertise the upcoming week to the rest of the campus body. IMPORTANT DATES/DETAILS:

Friday, February 7th-Cars must arrive between the hours of 1:00-3:00 PM.

CANDIDATE PARTICIPATION POINTS: Participation (2 points per car) 10 Points Maximum

ORGANIZATION PARTICIPATION POINTS: Participation (2 points per car) 10 Points Maximum RULES:

1. In order to gain all 10 points, each candidate and organization must have five cars arrive between 1:00 and 3:00 PM on Friday, February 7h.

2. Each car does not have to be an organization member’s car; however they must vocalize when they arrive which candidate or organization they are representing for points.

3. Each car should only be chalked in the vehicle’s rear window. The students will chalk their own vehicles.

4. The only words that may appear on the rear window is: a. Homecoming 2014: JAGUAR LOVE! b. Georgia Regents University or GRU c. Homecoming 2014 or February 10-15, 2014 or 02/10-02/15 d. “Jaguars,” “Jags,” “Go Jaguars,” or “Go Jags” e. Organization Name(s) or Initial(s)

5. The 2014 Homecoming Planning Committee would appreciate the cars remain chalked throughout the week, however we understand if that is not possible.

BANNER CONTEST GRU HOMECOMING 2014, JAGUAR LOVE!

AVAILABLE: Georgia Regents Homecoming Court Candidate/Pass the Paw Mandatory Meeting DUE: Friday, February 7th, 2014 TIME: 12:00 PM WHERE: Student Life & Engagement HUNG: Sunday, February 9th, 2014 DISPLAYED: Monday, February 10th- Thursday, February 13th, 2014 WHERE: JSAC Breezeway & Wellness Center *The location of where each banner will be displayed will be drawn at the Georgia Regents Homecoming Court Candidate and/or Pass the Paw Mandatory Meeting.

WHAT IS THE HOMECOMING BANNER CONTEST? The Homecoming Banner Contest is an opportunity for candidates/organizations to celebrate Homecoming by creating banners which flaunt the spirit of Homecoming 2014 and showcase their artistic talent. This year’s banner contest gives Georgia Regents Homecoming Court Candidates and/or Pass the Paw competitors the opportunity to create a banner based around the overall theme, GRU Homecoming 2014: JAGUAR LOVE! IMPORTANT DATES/DETAILS:

Monday, February 3rd-Banners will be available for pick-up in Student Life & Engagement.

Friday, February 7th-Banners MUST be submitted to Student Life & Engagement by 12:00 PM

Sunday, February 9th-Banners Hung by staff in the JSAC Breezeway or Wellness Center.

Thursday, February 13th-Banners will be removed and the top three that have placed will be moved to Christenberry Fieldhouse for further display.

Monday, February 17th-Banners will be available for pick-up from Student Life & Engagement. If not picked up by Friday, February 21st all banners will be thrown away.

2. There will NOT be any banner checks. If you banner is inappropriate it will not be hung and you will not receive any points for this category. Please remember you banner reflects your candidate, organization, and this institution.

3. Do NOT put any materials (example: GLITTER, wood, cardboard, etc.) on the banner.

a. If there are any extra materials on the banner, the candidate/organization will be DISQUALIFIED from the banner competition.

4. In order for the Candidate to receive participation points, a photo must be posted on the GRU Facebook Page of the candidate assisting with the banner.

5. The banner design MUST reflect the overall theme. 6. The only words that may appear on the banner are:

ANNUAL LIP-SYNC COMPETITION GRU HOMECOMING 2014, JAGUAR LOVE!

WHEN: Wednesday, February 12th, 2014 TIME: 7:30-9:30 PM WHERE: Lee Auditorium (Health Sciences Campus) Doors Open at 7:00 PM WHAT IS THE LIPSYNC CONCERT? The Annual LipSync Competition is an opportunity for candidates and organizations to direct and perform a dance/song that they choreographed along with a set of music that entertains fellow students. Students are able to be creative, designing their own scripts, props and costumes for their performances. IMPORTANT DATES/DETAILS:

Monday, February 10th-Pre-Recorded Single Track MP3 & LipSync Introduction are due by 5:00 PM via email to Jessica Haskins ([email protected]).

o The MP3 File must only have the one track, so it may be added to an iPod. Monday, February 10th-LipSync Competition Rehearsal is required for all

performers from 7:00-9:00 PM in the JSAC Ballroom. This will be a closed door competition and times will be pulled at the Mandatory Candidate/Organization Meeting.

Wednesday, February 12th-All Performers MUST be present by 6:00 PM to review performance order and other event details, if all the performers do not arrive by 6:10 PM the organization will be DISQUALIFIED, including the candidate performing with the organization.

1. If the Student Organization sponsored a Georgia Regents Homecoming Court Candidate and are participating together (with a Pass the Paw Competitor) the Candidate must participate on stage in some manner to receive participation points.

2. No more than 10 people will be allowed to perform on the stage at any point in time. This does not include transitions (Each additional member on stage over 10 will be a two (2) point deduction from the total score.)

3. The dance/song must be set-up, performed, and torn down within 6 minutes. Each performance must take into consideration the amount of time it takes to set-up props, enter and exit the stage. Set-up, tear down and the actual skit should not exceed six (6) minutes TOTAL. (Each 30 seconds over will be a two (2) point deduction from total score.)

4. No flips of any kind are allowed. If anyone performing attempts any flip of any kind, the group will be DISQUALIFIED from this event.

5. Props must not exceed six (6) feet in height and must have the organizations name on EVERY PROP. (For each prop over six (6) feet in height or any props left after the event will result in two (2) points deducted for each prop from the total score.)

6. Once the performance is complete, nothing may be left anywhere near the performance area. (For any item left after the performance will result in two (2) points deducted for each item.)

7. Each group MUST refrain from the use of vulgar, demeaning, racial, sexual, or provocative content in their skit. The content of ALL acts will be at the discretion of the Jaguar Production Crew and anything offensive or tasteless will result in that group being DISQUALIFIED from this event.

8. Candidates/Organizations who do not follow any of the above rules will not have will not receive any points for this category.

2. Each organization will be given two parking spaces in the lower parking lot at Christenberry Fieldhouse for to formulate a tailgate atmosphere.

3. Each space will be provided with one six (6) foot table and two chairs. The space will be judged on Jaguar Pride and Spirit!

4. Electricity will not be available so please plan your space accordingly. 5. No music can be played at any individual organization.

*Music for this event will be provided by the 2014 Homecoming Planning Committee.

6. No motor vehicles will be allowed in the “tailgate” area. 7. There must be two (2) members from each pairing at their respective table at all

times during this event (from 6:00-9:00 PM). The representative cannot be the organizations candidate.

8. Each table area must be cleaned and approved by a member of the 2014 Homecoming Planning Committee before the organization can leave the event. Failure to do this will result in a deduction of five (5) points.

9. If your organization wishes to give out food to your organization members please know that you are responsible for all aspects; including cost, preparation, serving and consumption. a. Food that has peanut ingredients is prohibited, in order to avoid

allergic reactions. 10. Please be mindful of the content and decorations of your table. Anything that is

considered by the 2014 Homecoming Planning Committee to be vulgar or inappropriate will result in immediate DISQUALIFICATION from this event.

11. Each organization member must sign-in with the 2014 Homecoming Planning Committee Representative.
