Moving Toward A Draft Plan: Spotlight on Solid Waste

Draft Vision / Goals for Solid Waste:“Zero Waste” – Strive to eliminate waste as a concept.

• Minimize waste from the start (reduce packaging, disposables, printing, etc)• Maximize materials reclaimed for more productive end uses (e.g. increase recycling,

composting, donations and re-use)• Promote a culture of sustainable materials use on campus.

Objectives

• Identify and pursue opportunities to reduce packaging from purchases• Improve waste management for events• Explore improved compost opportunities to support local agriculture• Etc.

Strategies &

Initiatives

• Tons of Total Waste per person• % of Waste that is recycled, composted, or otherwise diverted for re-use
