Geometry Monster Glyph This project is to be completed once your

students are familiar with the following :

• Polygon vs. Not a Polygon

• Different types of polygons. Ie: triangles,

quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and

octagons

• Closed Shape vs. Open Shape

• Isosceles and Equilateral Triangles

• Acute, Obtuse, Right, and Straight Angles

• Intersecting and Parallel Lines

Geometry Monster Glyphs can be used as a

form of review, to assess understanding, as a center

activity, used for small group work, reinforcement

exercise, etc…

Steps for creating your very own Geometry Monster Glyph

Step #1: Gather supplies (ie: glue, scissors,

markers, construction paper) Print the patterns

provided on cardstock so that they can be cut out

and used as traceable patterns or simply cut them

out of file folders for durability.

Step #2: Review the geometry terms used in the

assignment

Step #3: Go over the instructions and discuss how to

complete the glyph

Step #4: Assemble your monster

Step #5: Use any extra scraps of paper to add

accessories to your monster

Step #6: Share your monsters with the class

Geometry Monster Glyph Today you will create your very own polygon monster!

Simply read the legend below and follow the directions provided.

Color of Monster Your favorite color

Body

Select a polygon that has the same number of sides as the number of letters in your name. If your name has 7 or more letters, use the octagon.

Eyes If you are a girl= Not a Polygon If you are a boy= Polygon

Mouth If you like geometry= Closed Shape If you do not like geometry= Open Shape

Teeth

2 or less vowels in your name= 2 Isosceles Triangles 3 or more vowels in your name= 3 Equilateral Triangles

Antennas If 2 or less children in your family= Acute Angle If more than 2 children in your family= Obtuse Angle

Legs If you have a pet= Intersecting legs If you have no pets= Parallel legs

Arms If you have long hair= Straight Angles If you have short hair= Right Angles

I  can’t  wait  to  see  how   your monster turns out!
