PRE-CONFERENCE FIELD TRIP – 6-9 JULY 2017 The field trip to central Anatolia, Turkey will be conducted between the towns of capital Ankara and the most touristic towns of Çorum, Kayseri and Nevşehir. The trip starts from Ankara Hilton Hotel and ends at Cappadocia. It is designed to show the thick Tertiary succession and the well known ancient Hittite, Hattusa civilization (Lion Gate, Temple, and Rock-Cut Reliefs) around the town of Boğazkale (Çorum). We will spend one full day in the town of Göreme and visit Churches, Fairy Chimneys, and underground cities, built by Romans and Byzantines. This area is also known as Cappadocia where the entire tourist enjoy hot-air balloon ride is very popular. Day 1: 06 July 2017: Leaving Ankara Hilton Hotel at 8.30. After a short city tour in Ankara we will visit the “Museum of Anatolian Civilizations” and the Ankara Castle. After having lunch, we will travel eastward on the Ankara-Samsun highway through ophiolitic mélange complex, consisting of serpentinite, pillow basalts (Figure 2), radiolorite and huge limestone blocks. It is overlain by classical turbidite sequence (Figure 3). Continue to Anitta Hotel in Çorum.
