There are some 120 to 175 languages and dialects in the Philippines, depending on the method of classification. Four others are no longer spoken. Almost all are Malayo-Polynesian languages, whereas one, Chavacanno, is a creole derived from Romance language. Two are the official language (English and Filipino), while (as of 2017) nineteen are official auxiliary languages. Including second-language speakers, there are more speakers of Filipino than English in the Philippines.
The Philippines proudly boast to be the only Christian nation in Asia. More than 86% of the population is Roman Catholic, 6% belong to various nationalized Christian cults, and the another 2% belong to well over 100 Protestant denominations. In addition to the Christian majority, there are 4% Muslim minority, concentrated on the southern islands of Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan. Scattered in isolated mountainous regions, the remaining 2% follow non-Western, indigenous beliefs and practices. The Chinese minority, although statistically insignificant, has been culturally influential in coloring Filipino Catholicism with many of the beliefs and practices of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.

The Philippines is a country that has varied cultural influences. Most of these influences are results of previous colonization, deriving mainly from the culture of Spain and United States. Despite all of these influences the old Asian culture of Filipinos has been retained and are clearly seen in their way of life, beliefs and customs. Wherever you go, Filipino Culture is very evident ad has largely been appreciated and even applauded in many parts of the world.

The Philippines offers an easy-going way of life yet unmarred by mass tourism. Getting around is very easy, considering English is so widely spoken among the country’s hundred million population. Add to that the cheap cost of living in the Philippines, and you end up with an appealing place to call home.
Philippines is also rich in mineral and natural resources. It is considered one of the largest mining countries, with an estimated $1 trillion in mineral wealth. Philippines is also one of the world’s largest exporter of rice, which make up 2.8 percent of global rice production. Currently, Philippines is the host of the International Rice Research Institute, whose aim is to improve the well-being of poor rice farmers, the consumers, as well as the environment.
