CBDWhat is CBD? CBD-Central Business

District- is the commercial and often the geographic heart of the city. Usually called “downtown”. CBD's have lots of commercial buildings, business offices, banks,shops and etc. They're easy to recognize because they usually contain the tallest buildings, and everything revolves around its center.

CBD's Main FunctionsShops: CBD is at the top of the shopping

hierarchy in a city.

Offices: Banks, building societies, insurance companies and government offices occupy high rise office blocks or the upper floors above shops in the CBD.

Entertainment: CBD's contain theaters, cinemas, clubs, bars, museums, restaurants,parks, and etc.

Transport: Usually bus stations, train stations, trams, new road constructions, and the largest cities usually have underground transport.

CBD's Problems & SolutionsCBD's main problem is traffic. In

some places the roads are often narrow. People complain about wasting so much time in traffic and always being late for work. CBD is a city where all the roads meet, so avoiding traffic might be a big issue for locals and tourists.

The solution to that would be using buses or subways to get to work. They usually come every couple minutes.

Building more roads with more lanes to avoid traffic jams.

Building bigger parking lots, so people wouldn't have to look for free parking spaces.

CBD's Problems & SolutionsPollution is another problem in the

CBD's. Water, air land, and noise pollution are all common in CBD's. Some illnesses such as asthma are exacerbated by urban living. This problem is caused by before mentioned traffic. Also dumping trash into rivers causes pollution.

The solution is to have a law against dumping trash into lakes or rivers.

Use economical green cars. (Smart car). They are usually inexpensive, light weight, and fuel-efficient.

Another solution is recycling. Which means the conversion of waste to reusable material.

Planting more trees.

CBD's Problems & SolutionsThe lack of space and a high cost of

land is yet another problem. In big cities, such as New York, the space is very limited. Whether it is a parking space or your living space, there's very little of it. Plus everything is always crowded.

The solution to this could be building high rise buildings to increase the floor space.

For crowded malls, we could build out-of-town shopping centers so people wouldnt have to come to the CBD for shopping.

The costs of land could be dropped a little.

CBD's Problems & SolutionsVandalism is probably an issue in most

cities, especially in big ones. There's lots of young kids destroying public properties. Examples of vandalism are: keying cars, spraying paint on peoples houses, breaking widows, slashing tires and etc.

Solutions are: picking special places for people to be able to spray paint on.

More police in the cities, better security of public properties.

More survialance cameras.

Higher rate of police officers throughtout the city.
