There are many different types of genre (pronounced jon-ruh) in literature. "Genre" means "category" or "kind".
But what do different genres have in common?
They tell stories!

ADVENTURENarratives in which the protagonist or other major characters are consistently placed in dangerous situations.

HORRORStories intended to scare, unsettle, or horrify the reader.

Realistic FictionStories about situations occurring in the real world. There can be no magic or fantasy involved in the plot.
Traditional LiteratureStories that are passed down from one group to another in history. This includes folktales, legends, fables, fairy tales, tall tales, and myths from different cultures.
Science FictionThe story has a theme related to science, technology, space and the future.
