The purpose of the ark was to save his family and the animal world from the judgment of sin.

The ark would be a picture of how Jesus would save mankind from the judgment of sin.

God told Noah to build an ark (tebah), which is a box (tebah), not a ship (tsiy).

Jesus said that Noah entered into the ark (kibotos), which is a box (kibotos) not a ship (ploion). Matthew 24:38

The ark, a box, is a type of coffin, a picture of the death of Jesus to save us from the death of sin. 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10; Romans 5:10Click for next slide

The ark was not a ship.


Make an ark of gopher wood, with rooms and pitch it within and without. Genesis 6:14


The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. Genesis 6:15

Noah was 600 years 2 months and 17 days old when the flood started. Genesis 7:5-11

It took Noah 120 years to build the ark.


After Noah, his family, and all the living creatures were in the ark, God shut the door. Genesis 7:16



Noah was in the ark with all the animals for one year, 2 months and 27 days. Genesis 8:13-19


A picture of Salvation through the death of Christ.

“Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord” Genesis 6:8

“We are saved by grace.” Ephesians 2:8-9



Noah and family building the ark by faith in the death of Christ is symbolic of Christians saved by faith in the death of Christ. Hebrews 11:7
