GENERAL SHEEP RULES 1. All sheep must have acceptable Scrapie Identification. The only permitted Scrapie ID are official Scrape tag or registration tattoo with original registration papers. Animals with blue scrapie, “meat only” scrapie tags are not permitted to exhibit. Tags will be checked at June Tag-in and again by the fair veterinarian during Check-in at fair. 2. All male market lambs must be completely castrated (no evidence of seed). All female lambs must be open at show time. 3. Check-in for Junior Fair Sheep will be Sunday of the fair from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Gate 3 only. The veterinarian will check sheep before they are released to the barn. No Junior Fair sheep are permitted on the grounds until that time. 4. Each exhibitor is to have pen cleaned by 6:00 p.m. Saturday of the fair unless other arrangements have been made with the Sheep Committee Chairman. 5. Sheep Shows will be Tuesday of fair, with the following start times: 9:00 = Open Breeding Show, followed by the Junior Fair Breeding; 2:00 = Showmanship, followed by the Market Lamb Show. 6. Junior Fair Sheep projects will be released at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday with no trailers at the barns before 11:00 pm. 7. The Pee Wee Show will be Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in the sheep barn. Market lamb weigh-in will be Sunday (day prior to fair starting) at 4:00 p.m. Weigh-in will start at one end of the barn and go to the other end of the barn until done. The exhibitor must be present to weigh-in their lamb or make arrangements for another person to do it. Lambs will only be weighed in the designated order. If exhibitor or designated person is not there for weigh-in, their lamb will not show for market or sell. All junior sheep are to be checked for disease by a Senior Fair Board member, the fair veterinarian, and a committee officer. All lambs must meet the minimum weight of 90 pounds to show and sell. Any lamb underweight will show for project grade only and will be deemed inappropriate to sell as a market lamb in the Junior Fair Sale. Project

9. Market lambs will be divided by weights in classes not to exceed 15 head. In the event of
an unequal number of lambs per class or if there is more than one lamb at the weight
break, the extra lambs will go to the lighter weight class. The number of classes will be
pro-rated according to the number of lambs. Class winners will show for the Grand
Champion Market Lamb. Once the Grand Champion Market Lamb is determined, the
Reserve Grand Champion will be selected from the remaining class winners as well as
the 2nd place lamb from the class in which the Grand Champion was selected.
10. Market lambs must be slick shorn within five days prior to the market lamb weigh-in at
the fair. The sheep committee officers will make all final decisions, if there is a question.
11. No identification tags or marks of any kind placed on lambs by the committee shall be
removed after weigh-in and during the fair.
12. No lambs are permitted outside the building except for designated grooming areas and
wash racks (see diagram).
13. There are to be no scales at the sheep barn or in the designated sheep grooming or
walking areas, aside from the official scales used for weigh-in.
14. No one is permitted in the sheep barn from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. when the barn is
closed.
15. There will be a Born and Raised in Your Care Class. The purpose of the Born and
Raised in Your Care Class market lamb class is to teach members how to breed, and raise
replacements and market sheep. To be eligible for the Born and Raised in Your Care
Class a Jr. Fair member must breed and lamb the project on their farm. The ewe must be
in the possession of the Jr. Fair member by November 1 of the preceding year. Born and
Raised in Your Care Class status must be designated at Junior Fair Market Lamb tag-in in
June. Born and Raised in Your Care Class lambs will be shown in both the Born and
Raised in Your Care Class and the regular type class. The Born and Raised in Your Care
Class will show prior to the regular market lamb classes. The Champion and Reserve
Champion Born and Raised in Your Care market lambs do not have to sell unless they are
Grand Champion or Reserve Grand Champion Market Lambs over-all.
16. No parents/advisors/adults are permitted in the show ring at any time during any show
unless they are serving as the ring person and/or his designee(s).
17. The Grand and Reserve Grand Champion lambs must sell in the Junior Fair Sale.

SHEEP SHOWMANSHIP RULES
1. The Exhibitor must show one of his/her own market lambs or breeding lambs which is
also shown by the exhibitor in a Junior Fair market or breeding class at the Guernsey
County Fair. Further, during showmanship the exhibitor must show the same lamb in all
classes for which they are showing. Exhibitors are not permitted to switch lambs
between classes.
2. Showmanship classes will show by age as of January 1st in 8-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-
18 year old classes.
SHEEP BREEDING RULES
1. Purebred and/or Registered and Crossbred Sheep Breeding classes will be observed.
Explanation: Purebred and/or Registered - both sire and dam purebred - one breed.
Crossbred - two or more breeds constitute crossbred animal.
2. Sheep breeding projects must be in the ownership and continual care of the members by
June 1.
3. Junior Fair Breeding projects are limited to one animal per class per person.
4. All breeding sheep projects will be required to have an ear tag for identification purposes
by the first day of the fair.
5. Sheep Breeding Classes:
a. Junior Ewe Lamb - born March 1 to fair date, current year
b. Intermediate Ewe Lamb - born Jan. 1 to Feb. 28, current year
c. Fall Ewe Lamb - born the last day of the fair thru Dec. 31, previous year
d. Ewe - 1 year but under 2
e. Ewe - 2 years old and older
f. Ram Lamb - Born after Jan. 1 this year
6. During the Sheep Breeding Ram Class, Yearling Ewe Class, or Aged Ewe Class each
exhibitor may have another Junior Fair exhibitor assist them in the show ring.

PREMIER JUNIOR FAIR SHEEP BREEDING PROJECT
Trophy sponsored by Charles Parker Family in Memory of Mr. and Mrs. J Willis Parker. Trophy
goes to the exhibitor earning the most points according to the following scale. Once an exhibitor
wins three time, the exhibitor will gain permanent possession of the trophy. A Premier Sheep
Breeding plaque will be presented by Bob Evans Restaurant.
