General Information. Scoil Neasáin is an urban school, situated in Harmonstown, Dublin 5. School begins at 9am and finishes at 1.15 for younger classes and 2.30 for older classes. We do not wear a uniform in Scoil Neasáin. - PowerPoint PPT Presentation

General Information

• Scoil Neasáin is an urban school, situated in Harmonstown, Dublin 5.

• School begins at 9am and finishes at 1.15 for younger classes and 2.30 for older classes.

• We do not wear a uniform in Scoil Neasáin.• We speak Irish(Gaeilge) in school at all times, except

when learning English.• Our school is a Catholic school.• There is one class of each year.• The highest amount of pupils in a class is 32 and the

lowest is 27.• There are 13 on our teaching team, and we have one

Teachers Assistant, one caretaker and one secretary.

There is a running track about 50m long with 8 lanes in our yard. We often have races during yard time.

All-Weather Pitch

We have a big all-weather pitch in our yard.We usually spilt it in half during break time,

so more people can play on it.There are four goals, 2 large and 2 small.

• There is a large hurling wall in our yard.• We play squash, hurling and football against it.

There are two Olympic handball courts in our yard.

There are three basketball courts in our yard.One of them is on tarmac.

The other two are on a spongy green material.

During the Year

• During the school year there are many different events and celebrations in our school…..

Oíche Shamhna (halloween)

• We celebrate Halloween on the 31st of October every year.

• In school everyone, teachers included, dress up as scary, magical characters to celebrate.

• We all gather in the school hall, we sing Hallowe’en songs and watch Hallowe’en dramas that we all perform.

• Each class parades around the hall to show off their scary costumes.

• Afterwards we all go back to our own classrooms and have a party, with games and food.

• We always have a spooky day!!!

Nollaig (Christmas)

• We celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December every year.

• In the run up to Christmas Santa Claus visits our school and gives presents out to each class.

• Every year we celebrate the birth of Jesus with a Christmas mass in school.

• We exchange Christmas card every year, by putting everyone’s name from the school including teachers and other staff, in a hat and picking names at random. You keep this name a secret until you give them the card on a certain date. This is known as Kris Kindle.

Lá Fhéile Phádraig

• St.Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland.

• We celebrate his feast day on the 17th of March every year.

• Here in school we dress up in green white and orange (the colours of the Irish flag).

• We have a parade in the school hall.

• We decorate the school.

• We play traditional Irish music.

Lá Ealaíona

• Every year our school has a full day of art!

• We make clay models, knit, weave and build.

• Last year we took the theme of the Olympic Games. Some made weight lifters, runners and gymnasts!

• Every year in school we have a day that the whole school studies science!

Inis Oírr

Inis Oírr

• Every year fifth class and some teachers go to a small island of the west coast of Ireland, called Inis Oírr for 3 weeks.

• Inis Oírr is an all-Irish speaking community.

• The class is divided and stay in houses. We still attend school but afterwards we visit local historical sights.

• At night we do sports and have céilís.

Turas go Delphi

• Most years sixth class go on a tour to Delphi in Leenane,Co.Galway.

• Here in this outdoor adventure centre students partake in all outdoor activities like, surfing, kayaking, abseiling and archery.
