Hillary ClintonDonald Trump
For President
Abortion on Demand
“Let me be clear -- I am pro-life... I did not always hold this position, but I had a signifi cant personal experience that brought the precious gift of life into perspective for me.”
In 2003, Hillary Clinton voted to endorse Roe v. Wade, which allows abortion for any reason. In 2016, Clinton said, “The unborn person doesn’t have constitutional rights,” later adding she believed this to be true even on the unborn child’s due date.
The partial-birth abortion procedure -- used from the fi fth month on -- involves pulling a living baby feet-fi rst out of the womb, except for the head, puncturing the skull and suctioning out the brain. The Partial-Birth Abortion Ban was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2007, in a 5-4 decision.
Partial-Birth Abortion
In 2000, in his book The America We Deserve, Donald Trump wrote that after consulting with doctors about the partial-birth abortion procedure, he concluded that he would support a ban on that method.
In 2003, Hillary Clinton voted against the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act (voted to allow partial-birth abortions to continue) every chance she got.
Nominations to the U.S. Supreme Court
In May 2016, Donald Trump released a list of eleven conservative judges whom he would consider for a Supreme Court vacancy, saying, “By the way, these judges are all pro-life.”
Hillary Clinton has said that she would only nominate Supreme Court justices who would uphold the decision that legalized abortion on demand. “I would not appoint someone who didn’t think Roe v. Wade is settled law.”

national RIGHT TO LIFE
The 1973 Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton Supreme Court decisions legalized abortion on demandthroughout the United States. There have been more than 59 million abortions since then.
The next president may have the opportunity to appoint three or four justices to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Vice Presidential Candidates
Mike Pence had a solid pro-life voting record on abortion during 12 years in the U.S. House, including votes for passage of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. As governor of Indiana, Mike Pence championed many pro-life measures.
Tim Kaine voted against the pro-life position in the U.S. Senate every chance he got. He voted against the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. Tim Kaine co-sponsored a bill (S. 217) that would nullify virtually all state limits on abortion, including late abortions.
Party PlatformsThe Republican Party Platform affi rms “that the unborn child has a fundamental right to life,” opposes using government funds to perform or promote abortion or to fund abortion providers, and supports legislation to assist babies who survive abortion.
The Democratic Party Platform supports abortion on demand, and calls for repeal of the Hyde Amendment (which restricts the use of federal funds for abortion). The platform also supports government funding of abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider.

LIFESPAN Candidate SurveyRight to Life - LIFESPAN, Inc. is a non-profit educa-tional and legislative organization. The first informs and motivates people to do something. The second speaks to changing laws. LIFESPAN can take sides and urge passage of legislation which is called lobby-ing. LIFESPAN is not “political.” LIFESPAN does not have a political action committee (PAC) to elect or to defeat candidates. However, we can publish candidate surveys. This has been clearly permitted on a number of occasions by the U.S. Supreme Court. We can also list office holders and tell you how they have voted on various issues. Such reporting, as we do it, is not “political.” Because this comes under Freedom of the Press, such information can be passed out through churches, without jeopardizing their tax status (again by a decision of the U.S. Supreme Court). According to legal terminology, this corporation can engage in “issue advocacy.” The responses to the survey ques-tions are dependent on the honesty and integrity of the individual candidates. LIFESPAN is not responsible for any candidate’s responses that differ from his or her public stance on the issues. Any questions on discrepancies should be directed to the candidate. F

Register and Vote!Never underestimate the power of the ballot. One of the greatest strengths of America is that all citi-
zens are provided a voice through the voting booth. And every vote does count! Many an election has been won by a handful of votes or even just one vote.
But before you can vote in an election, you must be registered. Registering to vote is an easy process. In fact, Michigan was the first state in the nation to implement “motor/voter” registration, allowing residents to register to vote at any Secretary of State branch office. Today, over 88 percent of all eligible voters are registered.
To register, you must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old by election day and a Michigan resident. Any Secretary of State branch office or county, city or township clerk’s office can register you. In addition, specified agencies providing services through the Department of Human Services, the Department of Community Health, the Mich-igan Jobs Commission, and military recruitment centers also provide voter registration services.
You may also register to vote by mail—forms are available at your local clerk’s office or from the Secretary of State web site. If you register to vote by mail, and you have moved to a new voting jurisdiction or are registering for the very first time, you must vote in person in the first election in which you participate. The only exceptions are if you are 60 years old or older, disabled as defined by law or temporarily living overseas.
You also have the option of registering to vote when you renew your driver license by mail. Eligible drivers receive a voter registration application in the mail with their driver license renewal information.
As you can see, there are several options for you to choose from when registering to vote. But no matter where or how you register, you will vote in your assigned precinct in your hometown.
Absentee VotingF Download an absentee ballot application at
www.michigan.gov/sosF Send your absentee ballot request form to your clerk
at: www.michigan.gov/sos Absentee voter ballots are available for all elections.
They provide voters with a convenient method for cast-ing a ballot when they are unable to attend the polls on election day.

Those who stay away from the election think that one vote will do no good.
‘Tis but one step more to think one vote will do no harm.

As a registered voter, you may obtain an absentee voter ballot if you are:
F age 60 years old or olderF unable to vote without assistance at the pollsF expecting to be out of town on election dayF in jail awaiting arraignment or trialF unable to attend the polls due to religious reasonsF appointed to work as an election inspector in a precinct outside of your precinct of residence.A person who registers to vote by mail must vote in
person in the first election in which he or she participates. The restriction does not apply to overseas voters, voters who are disabled or voters who are 60 years of age or older. (Voting in person on one governmental level clears
the restriction on the other levels. For example, if a voter subject to the restriction votes in person at a school election, the voter would be free to obtain an absentee ballot for the first state election in which he or she wishes to participate.)
Requesting an Absentee Voter BallotYour request for an absentee voter ballot must be in
writing and can be submitted to your city or township clerk. (For assistance in obtaining the address of your city or township clerk, see www.Michigan.gov/vote). Your re-quest must include one of the six statutory reasons stated above and your signature. You must request an absentee voter ballot by mailing the application, a letter, a postcard, or a pre-printed application form obtained from your local clerk’s office. Requests to have an absentee voter ballot mailed to you must be received by your clerk no later than 2 p.m. the Saturday before the election.
Once your request is received by the local clerk, your signature on the request will be checked against your voter registration record before a ballot is issued. You must be a registered voter to receive an absentee ballot. Requests for absentee voter ballots are processed immediately. Absentee voter ballots may be issued to you at your home address or any address outside of your city or township of residence.
After receiving your absentee voter ballot, you have until 8 p.m. on election day to complete the ballot and return it to the clerk’s office. Your ballot will not be counted unless your signature is on the return envelope and matches your signature on file. If you received assistance voting the ballot, then the signature of the person who helped you must also be on the return envelope. Only you, a family member or person residing in your household, a mail carrier, or elec-tion official is authorized to deliver your signed absentee voter ballot to your clerk’s office.
If an emergency, such as a sudden illness or family death prevents you from reaching the polls on election day, you may request an emergency absentee voter bal-lot. Requests for an emergency ballot must be submitted after the deadline for regular absentee voter ballots has passed but before 4 p.m. on election day. The emergency must have occurred at a time which made it impossible for you to apply for a regular absentee voter ballot. Your local clerk will have more information about emergency absentee voter ballots. F

JUDICIAL CANDIDATE SURVEY LIFESPAN sent the following three-question survey to each candidate for judicial office in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties, including Michigan Supreme Court, Appeals Court, Circuit Court, District Court and Probate Court. Candidates were also asked to state, in 50 words or less, their judicial philosophy as it relates to matters of statutory interpretation. Statements provided by judicial candidates are on file at LIFESPAN’s Main Office. Please call for further information.
The following questions are intended to canvas your judicial philosophy. These questions are not directed at any particular case that you may have previously ruled upon, are about to rule upon or may rule upon in the future.
1. Which of the following groups of United States Supreme Court Justices possess a judicial philosophy that is closest to your own? Please mark your selection. A B C D A. Former Justice Antonin Scalia and Justice Clarence Thomas B. Justice Anthony M. Kennedy and former Justice Sandra Day O’Connor C. Former Justice David Souter and former Justice John Paul Stevens D. Justice Ruth Bader Binsberg and Justice Stephen Breyer
2. Which book most closely captures your judicial philosophy? Please mark your selection. A B C D A. A Matter of Interpretation, by Antonin Scalia B. Rights from Wrongs, by Alan Dershowitz C. Active Liberty, by Stephen Breyer D. Feminist Legal Theory: Readings in Law and Gender, edited by Katharine T. Bartlett and Roseanne Kennedy 3. B. Our State and Federal Constitutions should be interpreted by ascertaining the current meaning of the words that make up these documents.
C. Our State and Federal Constitutions provide general outlines of societal goals. The interpretation of our Constitutions can change over time to reflect the changing views of society. It is not sufficient to think that, since candidate X takes the “right position” on other issues such as the economy, foreign relations, defense, etc.,
but only goes wrong on abortion, one can in good conscience, vote for him/her.
Abortion deals with the first and most basic human right, without which there is nothing left to talk about.

One Nation Under God…
Sometimes in the midst of headline news, uncertain times, and constant debates that affect our future, it’s
hard to even know where to begin. We just know we have a deep ache in our hearts that cries out for God’s mercy, and a longing to see him heal our land.
But in all of the battles, defending our views, or pointing out differences, we have to ask ourselves one question… Have we prayed about it as much as we’ve talked about it?
God never leaves us to fend for ourselves, wrestling with worry, consumed in fear, or tempted towards hate. He reminds us He is with us and will help us. He reminds us He hasn’t lost control, but has a plan, and His purposes will prevail.
He hears our prayers, He knows our needs. There’s great power in uniting together, turning our hearts towards Him, and praying on behalf of our nation.
Prayer Point: That our nation would turn back to God. May God help us. We need him desperately to renew our hope and restore our land. We need his forgiveness and healing. May His Spirit sweep across our nation and draw many out of darkness. May believers everywhere draw close to Him and seek his face like never before.
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chron. 7:14
Prayer Point: That we would be faithful in praying for leaders and those in authority, knowing that their decisions directly affect us too. May God give them wisdom and courage as they lead our nation. May He give them a desire to listen for His voice and follow His ways. May God in His mercy, appoint principled, godly men and women into positions of authority in our nation.
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” 1 Tim. 2:1-2
Whoever your candidate of choice may be, we can rest in this—God has a plan. He’s not pacing heaven’s floors, worried about who will win or what the latest polls show. He’s called us to pray, to be salt and light, and to have a voice. We can trust that the outcome is in His hands.
Remember this truth on which our nation was founded: We are “One Nation under God.”
—Excerpt from 7 Vital Prayer Points: For the Upcoming Election, Our Nation and Leaders, by Debbie McDaniel, Crosswalk.com

Hyde AmendmentIn 1976, Congress passed the Hyde Amend-
ment, which prohibits Medicaid funding of abortion. The Guttmacher Institute estimates that one out of four babies born to mothers on Medicaid would have been aborted had the Hyde Amendment not prevented federal funding for abortion. In nationwide polls, 62% of the respondents have indicated that they do not want to pay for abortions with their tax dollars. During this election cycle, the Hyde Amendment is under direct attack.
VOTE!Very soon, we, as Americans, have an opportunity
denied to many. We have the opportunity to vote for those people we want to lead and direct our nation. The Right to Vote is a core value of our American liberty. Please, for the sake of the future of our children, carefully examine the positions of the candidates; determine if their values are in line with your values and then VOTE.

WHY LIFESPAN DOES WHAT IT DOES
We were recently asked two questions by one of our members. The first concerned why we don’t
concentrate more on trying to stop late-term abortions (rather than earlier abortions). The second concerned our “support” of candidates who claim to be pro-life with our candidate survey simply because they are pro-life. It is possible that others may have the same questions so what follows is our response.
“You asked us two questions and I would like to re-spond to the second one first. We report a candidate’s position on Life issues to our membership. We do not encourage anyone to vote for or support a particular candidate. We are prohibited, by law, from doing so. You may notice on the bottom of the front page of our Can-didate Survey newsletter issue the following disclaimer: NOTE: LIFESPAN is not a political organization and does not endorse candidates for election. We have surveyed the candi-dates as a service to our members. The questionnaires are on file at LIFESPAN’s Main Office for your perusal. If you need further verification on a candidate’s stand on these or other issues, please contact the candidate directly.
Over the years, we have found that many people, not just our members, call our offices seeking informa-tion about candidates for political office. This activity of LIFESPAN is mirrored by pro-life organizations in al-most every state, by every local organization and on a national level by the National Right to Life Committee. It is apparently an activity that fills a need for many.
As to your first question, regarding placing empha-sis on late-term abortions, my best response is that our
organization, LIFESPAN, cannot find a way to only seek protection for some human life. The gestational age of the preborn child does not determine his/her humanity or worth. There is no point at which we can draw a line and say we know that babies younger than six months are dying because of abortion, but we will concentrate on older babies. Doing so leaves us open to justifiable criti-cism about picking and choosing which lives to protect. Additionally, there is really very little support for saving the older baby as evidenced in recent court decisions be-cause, as we have seen, it is felt that placing time limits on abortion places an “undue burden” on the woman. And therein lies the real problem. The general public no longer seems interested in the impact of abortion on the preborn child, regardless of age, but focuses only on the “needs” or desires of the woman. We must be the voice for all who have none.”
These answers may or may not have satisfied the questioner, but we offer them as further explanation for some of the work done by Right to Life - LIFESPAN.
Love Life!—Diane Trombley
Director, Oakland/Macomb Chapter
Mission Statement of Right to Life - LIFESPAN Right to Life - LIFESPAN advocates civil rights for innocent human life, emphasizing protection for those who would be vic-tims of abortion, infanticide and euthanasia. We educate by distributing credible pro-life information. We are a non-prof-it, non-sectarian, grassroots organization founded in 1970.
Dear Friends,Every day in the United
States, over 3,000 babies are aborted—precious babies like my Wee Care babies for
whom you pray and provide.November 8th is a crucial date for our nation. One candidate believes that a full-term, pre-born baby
does not have any constitutional rights to life and that it is the mother’s choice whether or not the child is allowed to live.
The other candidate promises to elect Supreme Court Justices who will stand by our Constitution and protect those tiny lives.
Every vote counts—please vote, and please pray for our country!
God bless you! Love, Karen

Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. —Albert Einstein, 1879-1955
The longer I live, the more I think that this country is slowly going insane. It is another election and the pro-abortion progressives are promising the mass-
es anything that will get them a vote. What do the masses do but cheer, praise and promote those candidates who have been in office and have been doing and promising the same thing for over 24 years.
In order to have real change, we must have different approaches to solve difficult problems.
There are three major candidates running for the pres-idency—only one promises to do things differently. Will he? I really don’t know, but one thing I am sure of is that if we get any of the others, our pro-life movement will be dead in the water. Additionally, if we have more progres-sive Supreme Court Justices, Congresspersons or Sena-tors, our success in stopping the killing of the pre-born will not be in my lifetime.
It is time to use whatever you can, emails, social me-dia, letters or phone calls to encourage your family and friends to vote for life and stop the insanity.
It’s Back…in Michigan
In 1998, when Jack Kevorkian was using his rusty van to euthanize men and women in the Detroit area, a mea-
sure to legalize physician assisted suicide was placed on the Michigan ballot and was soundly defeated.
In August of this year, Representatives Tom Cochran (D-67) and Sam Singh (D-69) introduced two new Death with Dignity Acts (HB 5802 and 5803) into the Michigan House. The procedure would be conducted through a prescription-based drug, but not without meeting cer-tain criteria, including life-threatening disease and less than six months to live.
In a statement, Singh said that because of proposed guidelines, he did not think the law would be used of-ten or abused. The record of the ever-increasing number of assisted suicides in Oregon would seem to contradict that idea. Physician assisted suicide is legal in Oregon, California, Vermont and Washington.

In Memory of Phyllis SchlaflyFamily Research Council President Tony Perkins told
LifeNews that “Phyllis Schlafly will be remembered for her courageous leadership in the face of seemingly insur-mountable odds.”
“With the political establishment, the media, and ac-ademia all arrayed against her, she organized a grass-roots movement that not only stopped the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) but became the foundation for the pro-life, pro-family movement we have today,” he said.
“I have little doubt that the political and cultural land-scape of America today would have long ago been de-void of true conservatism if not for her leadership. She never surrendered her principles and she never gave in to intimidation.”
“Her love for God and this country drove her to fight for the Constitutional principles that founded this na-tion. We honor Phyllis for the lessons that she taught us all. I’m proud to have stood alongside her for faith, fam-ily and freedom,” concluded Perkins.
Many of our LIFESPAN members remember Phyllis well. We marveled at her unwavering dedication to the pro-life cause and her determined efforts to stand against efforts to diminish the role of families in our society.
