Advanced Extension Awards General Notes
1. STARTING TIMES OF EXAMINATIONS. Each examination must be taken on the day and at the time shown on the timetable. The published starting time of all examinations is either 9.00am or 1.30pm. Candidates taking more than one examination in a session should take these consecutively. A supervised break may be given between the examinations taken consecutively at the discretion of the centre.
2. Centres may start an examination up to 30 minutes before the published starting time without notifying AQA.
3. Centres may delay the starting time of an examination within the scheduled session without notifying AQA but candidates must be supervised from 9.30am for morning examinations or 2.00pm for afternoon examinations.
4. No other departure from the timetable is permitted without the prior written approval of AQA. Applications for such changes must be received by 25 April 2008. When a change is made to the published starting time of an examination, it is the responsibility of the centre to inform all candidates affected by the alteration.
5. Candidates must remain under supervision until 10.00am for morning examinations and 2.30pm for afternoon examinations. For examinations of less than one hour�s duration, candidates must remain under supervision for a period equal to the duration of the examination after the published starting time shown on the timetable.
6. GCE, FSMQ and AEA examinations are timetabled in common inter-board agreed slots.
7. EARLY INFORMATION. Some components require the issue of question papers, stimulus material or other information in advance of the normal timetable period. Centres should check the specification for information on the material required by candidates.
8. Any READING TIME specified for an examination is included in the time specified.
9. PRACTICAL AND ORAL UNITS. These should be arranged by centres according to the procedures indicated. Such units are not shown on the timetable except when a unit is scheduled to be taken during the examination timetable period.
Subject/Qualification Notes
10. COURSEWORK MARKS. Centre-assessed marks for FSMQ and GCE coursework units/components must be submitted to AQA by 15 May 2008, except for Art and Design, Applied Art and Design and Drama & Theatre Studies which must be submitted to AQA by 31 May 2008.
11. CARRYING FORWARD MARKS FOR CENTRE-ASSESSED COMPONENTS. Candidates entering for the May/June 2008 examinations may carry forward their centre-assessed component marks following the instructions enclosed with the May/June 2008 entry material.
12. ART AND DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS. The Controlled Tests, Unit 3 and Unit 7 will be despatched to centres that have submitted Estimated Entries for issue to candidates on or after 1 February 2008. Centres may conduct the Controlled Test sessions between 1 March 2008 and 31 May 2008
13. DANCE. DAN1, DAN4 and DAN5 must be conducted between 10 March 2008 and 23 May 2008.
14. DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY SPECIFICATIONS. Candidates taking both Unit 1 and Unit 3 must take the Unit 3 paper first.
15. GENERAL STUDIES, SPECIFICATION A, GSA6. Case Study Source Material for GSA6 may be issued to candidates on or after 1 May 2008.
16. HISTORY. HS03 may be conducted any time between 1 March 2008 and 9 May 2008. The two course essays, each of 1 hour 30 minutes� duration, do not need to be taken at the same time.
17. HOME ECONOMICS. HEC2, HEC3 and HEC5, which are 6-hour papers, are timetabled in two 3-hour sessions.
18. MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES. Unit 3 and Unit 6 teacher-conducted orals in these subjects must be conducted between 7 March 2008 and 15 May 2008. Unit 3 and Unit 6 visiting-examiner orals in these subjects will be conducted between 7 March 2008 and 15 May 2008.
19. MUSIC. MUS3 may be conducted at any time during the course. MUS6 must be conducted between 21 April 2008 and 16 May 2008.
20. USE OF MATHEMATICS. Data sheets for UOM4/1 should be issued to candidates between 2 May 2008 and 9 May 2008.
21. MATHEMATICS MPC1: Calculators are not permitted in this examination.
22. FREE-STANDING MATHEMATICS QUALIFICATIONS. Data Sheets should be issued to candidates between 28 April 2008 and 5 May 2008.
23. FREE-STANDING MATHEMATICS QUALIFICATIONS. Data Sheets should be issued to candidates between 29 April 2008 and 6 May 2008.
24. FREE-STANDING MATHEMATICS QUALIFICATIONS. Data Sheets should be issued to candidates between 30 April 2008 and 7 May 2008.
25. FREE-STANDING MATHEMATICS QUALIFICATIONS. Data Sheets should be issued to candidates between 1 May 2008 and 8 May 2008.
26. ADVANCED EXTENSION AWARDS. AEA examinations printed in italic type must be entered through the GCE awarding body, shown in brackets, administering the specification on behalf of all JCQ Awarding Bodies.
27. GCE EXTERNALLY ASSESSED ASSIGNMENTS. GCE LEISURE STUDIES AND GCE TRAVEL AND TOURISM: These should be conducted between 12 May 2008 and 23 May 2008. Preparatory folders should be collected by 9 May 2008.
28. GCE APPLIED ICT AQA set assignments must be conducted between 1 April 2008 and 21 June 2008. Candidates� work must be posted to the examiner on or before 21 June 2008.
29. APPLIED ART AND DESIGN. The externally set briefs (Unit 3, Unit 5 and Unit 9) will be despatched to centres in January 2008 on the basis of estimated entries. The externally set briefs (Unit 3, Unit 5 and Unit 9) must be completed by 31 May 2008. Candidates� marks for the externally set briefs (Unit 3, Unit 5 and Unit 9) must be submitted to AQA by 31 May 2008. Marks for all GCE Applied Art and Design centre-assessed units must be submitted to AQA by 31 May 2008.
30. GCE BIOLOGY SPECIFICATION A: This specification is only available to private candidates that have previously sat coursework units BYA4 and BYA89/C and the unit scores from the previous series are available for carry forward.
31. The date for publication of provisional results for GCE, FSMQ and AEA examinations in June 2008 is Thursday 14 August 2008.
