What is ErP? The acronym ErP stands for Energy related Products. It is linked to the Ecodesign directive of the European Union concerning this type of equipment. The Ecodesign defines minimum efficiency requirements for energy-related products such as water heaters, heat pumps, boilers and solar water heaters. All manufacturers must comply with this new directive since September, 2015.

Ecodesign Directive

Ecodesign defines the acceptable energy efficiency levels, as well as environmental requirements for energy-related products. Therefore, heating and water heating products must comply with all Ecodesign requirements in order to get the CE mark and be sold within the European Union market.Ecodesing also aims at excluding all low performance energy-using equipment from the market.The ErP Ecodesign will apply to the following products:• Renewable energy water heaters (solar, heat pump)• Electric water heaters• Heat pumps with a rated heat output ≤ 400 kW

Energy Labeling Directive

Well known to the end-user of white goods, energy efficiency label became mandatory for all heating and water heating products, within the EU market, since September 26th, 2015.These products must have energy efficiency labels which inform end-users about their performance. It creates much more transparency for customers and helps them make the right choice, for their purchase, by taking into consideration their real performance level (energy consumption, noise level and other product-specific information).

1 WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Energy savings and environmental protection will be the main challenges for the European Union for years to come. In this matter, as some heating and water heating products can be very energy-consuming, the goal of the new European directive, also called the 20-20-20 target, is to: • Decrease CO2 emissions by 20%.• Reduce the use of primary energy by 20%.• Increase renewable energy share by 20% by 2020.

Ultimately, as regards heating and water heating products, the result of these new standards will be an annual energy saving in Europe of around 56 Mtoe (Million tonnes of oil equivalent) by 2020. It represents roughly 20% of France total annual primary energy consumption*.

The water heater’s protection level against water projections is defined by its IP index which defines the safe installation areas for electric appliances when close to water draining points. The Steatite heating element is protected by an enamelled steel sleeve. This grants a large heat exchange surface, which reduces scale deposits and heating noise. to the tank. The titanium anode located at the center of the appliance is driven by an electronic PCB board that produces a milivoltage electric current providing the tank with a lifetime protection, replacing magnesium anode. A control light indicates to the user that the ACI Hybrid system is operational.

How does it work?� A thermosiphon solar water heater is composed

of a tank (accumulator) and a solar collector which is connected to the tank.

� The transfer between tank and collector is governed by gravity (hot water density is lower than cold water density). Instead of a pump, the pressure differential between hot and cold is used as propulsion energy. This is the “thermosiphon principle”. In order to operate, the collector (heat generator) must be located below the tank (heat consumer).

� The heat transfer medium is heated inside the solar collector. The hot liquid in the collector below is lighter than the cold liquid in the tank above the collector. As soon as the lighter hot liquid rises, gravity circulation starts.

� Inside the cylinder, the heated medium transfers its heat to the stored DHW and then, once cooled, falls back to the lowest point in the collector circuit.

Offering similar level of heating comfort as an electric water heater, solar water heaters are an environmentally friendy and simple solution to heat water.

How does it work?The heat pump water heater uses the operational principle of a heat pump, by absorbing calories in outdoor air and using this energy to ensure water heating.

The fan � inhales ambient air transferring its energy to the refrigerant agent in the evaporator � thus changing from liquid to gas. The gas is further heated by compression �. In the condenser � the gas transfers its accumulated heat to the water tank. As it gets colder it transforms back to fl uid. The pressure of the fl uid is further reduced by the expansion valve �. The electric back-up heating � starts only when required during insuffi cient heat pump working conditions.
