ZeroPoint Clamping System The functional principle
Pallet is simply placed on the openZeroClamp clamping pot.
There is no risk of jamming.
The spring elements keep the lockingunit (clamping wedges) open due tothe air pressure (6 bar) in the air hose
ZeroClamp positions the workpiece to the planar support faces with a retention force
of 25 kN (with 2,5 µm repeat accuracy)by bleeding the air hose

HSK Principle Traditional systems use either a cylindrical seat or a rigid cone for centering. A cylindrical seat always requires some amount of play (i.e. 25 H5 holder / 25 h5 bolt). Play in such a combination may be as large as 18µm. In a conical fit the cone must be shaped with great care. Otherwise the stage will protrude immediately (if the bolts are too large), or else the play will be the same as in a cylindrical system. The function of the ZeroClamp zero point clamping system resembles that of a hollow cone shank. In the latter system, the thin-walled cone is deformed as it is drawn in until its plane fits the contours of the seat. In principle, a zero point clamping system works in a similar way: While the cone is being drawn in, the seat ring will be widened minimally. Within the stage or the workpiece in contact with the plane seat, there can be no play.

ZeroPoint Clamping System Unique Features
Unique Features ZeroClamp Competitior Systems
Patent-registered Design, simple layout.Extremely few and simple components allow a very high reliability. Even chips will not harm the functional principle.
Complex mechanics using ball cages, pistons, valves, etc. When contaminated with chips risk of blockage and/or malfunction.
Highest precision due to the hollow shank taper principle (HSK) .When retracting the clamping bolt, the elastic part of the taper ring of the chuck will be slightly expanded thus providing a perfect and highly accurate fit and a repeatability < 3 µm.
Normally a joining fit is required (e.g. 32 mm h5/H5 for bolts and mountings). In this particular case the minimum backlash is 0 µm whereas the maximum is 22 µm. How can standard repeatabilities of < 5µm be achieved?
Thermo StabilityThermal impacts and/or micrometrical deviations are compensated by the hollow shank taper (HSK) princip-le. The taper rings always compensate the errors to the center of the clamping position.(E.g. on a rotary table the center of a pallet always remain in the machine center line).
Fixed system with 3 different types of bolts. Thermal impacts and/or micrometrical deviations shall cause asymmetrical offsets originating from the zero bolt. (On a rotary table, the center of a pallet shall be pushed away from the machine center line).
Only one type of clamping bolt required.Logistically simple manageability as one only type of bolt shall be screwed into the pin bore.
Generally three different types of bolts (zero bolt, floating or sword bolt, free bolt). Logistically complicated. It needs to be documented for each fixture, which bolt will have to be mounted at which place and in which angular position.High risk of errors!
No self-locking.In case of a crash, the fixture or the clamping device can give way thus possibly saving the machine spindle.In the case of a damage to the energy supply, forcing screws will allow the removal of the fixture.
In case of a crash self-locking systems will cause the worst damages possible.In the case of a damage to the energy supply, in most cases the fixture will have to be destroyed in order to be able to remove the pallet.
No tilitngLayout and design will prevent any tilting of the clam-ping bolts. Easy joining and removal even in inclined positions or large offset of the center of gravity.
Partially joining and removal must be effected in precise-ly defined and parallel positions as, mostly, cylindrical or tapered clamping bolts having a minimal tapering are used. Particularly the removal of highly asymmetric, heavy compo-nents will be problematic.
Pneumatic System with low installation heightClamping via spring assembly, unclamping by means of compressed air. Patented design for very high holding strengths even with standard air-pressures.
Hydraulic systems with disadvantages determined by the system: pump, duct, collision, leakage, bleeding, etc.Partially higher installation heights compared to pneumatic systems.

Function:
Lateral movement to one of 12 possible positions. Travel in Z - by 8 mm. This riggers the indexation. Required positioning accuracy ± 0,5 mm in X, Y, Z. Move in a circular path with R=25 mm in the XY-plane. For this, 30° at the input equals 2,5° at the outout. Rotation can be in either sense. Travel in Z + by 8 mm to index the dividing spindle again.
