LOG_aFlow® - hydrodynamic ADCP – data interpolation in space and time

LOG_aFlow® - the main idea

I.) Challenge

synoptic view of the flow? whole area, fixed timesunsynchronised (ADCP)-data

II.) Setting up a physical model for interpolation

confining on layer-integrated velocities (2-D-approximation);

III.) Solution

synoptic view of the flow!!!time discrete description, whole investigation areaLOG_aFlow®

conformity

quality and error-velocity at every depth-cell

LOG_aFlow® - prerequisites

checking and preparing ADCP – Data

check data for

continuity

Quality of interpolation results is mainly determined by the quality of ADCP - data

Therefore the quality of ADCP – data has to be checked for applicability of the data itself

ADCP – data have also to be checked for conformity with interpolation technology

Quality assessment of ADCP - data

1st characteristic: data quality at every cell (quality, error velocity)

(device – dependent parameter)

adjustable thresholds for neglecting ‚bad‘ data

Quality assessment of ADCP - data

2nd characteristic: - quality of the data ensemble

- data conformity and integrity with evaluation technology

(method– dependent parameter)

adjustable thresholds for marking of non-compliant data

From the example a question arise – Is it allowed to work with depth-integrated flow velocities or is it more realistic to work with layer-integrated flow velocities?

This decision has to be made by the user, always!

LOG_aFlow® and RdiToLaf assists the user to make this decision!!
