Run Gembrook Meeting Tuesday 12 August @ 6pm in the staffroom We need your help. The annual fun run, ‘Run Gembrook’ is scheduled for Sunday 19 October. This has been a great com-munity event and a good fundraising activity for the school. We need a team of helpers to get together and make this hap-pen. We have all the resources from previous years. Please come along and lend a hand. ……. Health Promoting School
Gembrook is a health promoting school and as such promotes a healthy lifestyle through the learn-ing programs. The Health Pro-moting Schools program is support-ed by DEECD. It promotes health and wellbeing through the school
and wider community. The program promotes healthy eating, regular exercise, no smoking, responsible use of alcohol and positive mental and emotional well being.
Congratulations to the PFA team The annual trivia night was a great success! Thank you to the PFA team for organising this successful evening. It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves. Thank you to the many families who were able to come along on the evening and thank you also to the many families & companies who were able to donate prizes. A list of all sponsors is on the school website. $1855 was raised and will contribute to improving the playground facilities.
Gembrook Primary School netballers… Congratulations to the following girls who represented the EDEC schools at the regional netball tournament recently…Emma, Ashley, Izzy, Jazzy, Biannca, Mahli, Lainey, Daisy, Alysha and Shania. Thank you to Ann and Jude for your assistance with the team.
Japanese Day Next Tuesday we will celebrate our Japanese language learn-ing. Asian Literacy is part of the new Australian wide curricu-lum. At Gembrook Primary School we are continually aiming to improve and provide a high quality education for all students. Learning a second language and learning about another cul-ture assists in brain development, other areas of learning and develops an understanding of other countries. In a global world these understandings are increasingly appreciated in the workplace and socially. At school next Tuesday the students will participate in a range of cultural activities.

What’s been happening in Science
this week?
Foundation and Grade 1 students are
learning about all the things animals
(including humans) need to survive.
Last week they discussed the im-
portance of exercise. There is a lot
of space in the Outdoor Learning
Centre to skip and jog on the spot!!
After exercising, they noticed that
their hearts were beating faster,
they were hot and sweaty and they
were puffing. They even got a little
bit thirsty.
The students have observed Rio ex-
ercising. He flies from one perch to
another one and he stretches his
wings.
This is Rio. He is Foundation and
Grade 1’s class pet. He lives in the
JLC and Outdoor Learning Centre
during the week, and goes home with
a student at the weekend. Georgia,
Alex and Arlo have already been
lucky enough to take him home to
their houses. Whose turn is it next?
