GEAR PUMP:
GEAR PUMP IS A DEVICE USED TO MOVE FLUIDS, SUCH AS LIQUIDS OR SLURRIES ESPECIALLY FOR PUMPING HIGH VISCOSITY FLUIDS. IT USES THE MESHING OF GEARS TO PUMP FLUID BY DISPLACEMENT. GEAR PUMPS ARE FIXED DISPLACEMENT, THAT IS THEY PUMP A CONSTANT AMOUNT OF FLUID FOR EACH REVOLUTION.
THERE ARE TWO MAJOR TYPES OF GEAR PUMP:1) EXTERNAL GEAR PUMP 2) INTERNAL GEAR PUMP
OUR PROJECT IS “ONE STAGE EXTERNAL GEAR PUMP WITH SPUR GEARS”.

SAND CASTING:A SAND CASTING IS A CAST PART PRODUCED BY
FORMING A MOLD FROM A SAND MIXTURE AND THEN POURING MOLTEN LIQUID METAL INTO THE CAVITY IN THE MOLD. THE MOLD IS THEN COOLED UNTIL THE METAL HAS SOLIDIFIED, THEN THE CASTING IS SEPARATED FROM THE MOLD. OUR PROJECT INVOLVED THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE:

OPERATING PRESSURE:• THE OPERATING PRESSURE IS OF SIGNIFICANCE FOR THE AREA OF APPLICATION OF PUMPS.
SPEED:• THE DRIVE SPEED IS AN IMPORTANT CRITERION FOR PUMP SELECTION SINCE THE DELIVERY Q OF A PUMP IS DEPENDENT ON THE NUMBER OF ROTATIONS N.• MANY PUMPS ARE ONLY EFFECTIVE AT A SPECIFIC R.P.M. RANGE AND MAY NOT BE LOADED FROM A STANDSTILL. THE MOST USUAL NUMBER OF ROTATIONS FOR A PUMP IS N= 1500 R.P.M.

BUT AS THE PROJECT IS THE PRODUCT OF OUR OWN EFFORTS,THAT IS WE HAVE DONE THE WHOLE PROJECT WITH OUR OWN HANDS (WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS) IN THE WORKSHOP TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT OF COLLEGE OF E&ME,SO IT COSTS US APPROXIMATELY RUPEES TWO THOUSAND (2000) ONLY.
