D20THE D20.THE HUB OF SUBSTATION AUTOMATION

THE PROCESSING CAPABILITY TO MONITOR AND CONTROL all substation IEDs andthousands of substation I/O points.

THE PROCESSING CAPABILITY TO RUN SOPHISTICATED AUTOMATION APPLICATIONS suchas the integrated LogicLinx™ programmable logic control (PLC), with uncompromisingperformance. All substation IED and device data is integrated, coordinated and made availableto as many host systems or users as needed at the local, SCADA master or enterprise level.

THE FLEXIBILITY TO BUILD A RELIABLE, POWERFUL AND VERSATILE SYSTEM. GE EnergyServices was the first to invent and implement a distributed remote terminal unit for the electric utilityindustry. Our design has now evolved into the industry leading platform for substationautomation, the D20. Based upon an open-ended distributed architecture, and using a series ofintelligent modules, the D20/D200 Product Family gives you complete flexibility to build a reliable, powerful and versatile system, capable of handling the monitoring, control, automation andcommunications in the smallest distribution substation to the largest transmission station.

HOW THE D20 WILL IMPROVE YOUR UTILITY’S PERFORMANCEBy Modularity

The core of the D20’s modular design is the D20 M main processor which managescommunications and data transfer between the hosts, local devices and remote intelligent substationand feeder devices. The open-ended architecture permits the addition of modules as, and where, you need them and provides parallel, distributed, real-time processing for greater configuration andapplication flexibility.

By Reducing Maintenance And RecalibrationMaintenance is made easy with the D20’s modular design. All I/O modules have front access

and easy-to-reach field terminations, LEDs and auxiliary hardware. To replace modules, simplyexchange the logic unit with a spare working module – termination panels remain in place and thewiring untouched. The D20 automatically detects the change and configures the system to makethe new module fully operational.

With Simplified ConfigurationEvery D20 comes with software tools to simplify troubleshooting, repair and configuration.

At your desktop or the substation, you can use the convenient ConfigPro tools to monitor the systemor change critical parameters. ConfigPro works like a typical Windows® application, with onlinehelp and pull-down menus.

With Longer Installed Product Life, And Lower Life Cycle CostsAs a family of products, the D20/D200 is intended to give you longer installed product life.

Once in place, you can easily install additional equipment, applications and features on yourD20 system without relinquishing the existing hardware and software. The D20 has been infield service for over a decade, evidencing its durability.

D20 K CONTROL OUTPUT MODULEReliable And Secure Controls

D20/D200 control commands are handled by the D20 K control output module.Depending on the application, dual control, direct operate and multiple Raise/Lower controlsare supported in D20 K operations.

The relay output subsystem consists of a standard Wesdac® D20 K logic panel and achoice of Westerm D20 K relay termination panels, each with 32 point relays plus MasterTrip/Close relays. For heavy duty controls, interposing relay panels are available.

Reliability and security are of utmost importance in issuing controls. The D20 K incorporatesinterlocking hardware protection techniques and software algorithms to guard againstfalse output selection due to a single component failure, erroneous address or selectiondecoding.

Among its security features, the D20 K offers:

• Master Trip/Close relay and point selection relay used to define the desired control pointand energize the appropriate Trip or Close bus for each control output; this dramaticallycuts hardware costs

• Select-check-execute functionality (used with the D20 M) to provide highly secureoperation which is especially essential in critical situations, such as Trip/Close operationsof power circuit breakers; only one point can be operated at a time, and each commandinvolves a series of steps to confirm and validate controls received from the master

• Single component failure protection to prevent misoperation

• Regular coil status check for hardware component failure; error causes module shutdown

• Local/Remote switch to manually disable relay coil power and contact wetting supplyduring local maintenance

• Optional current limit scheme on interposer relays

The D20 K control output module is the most flexible and reliable relay outputsubsystem available in a substation remote terminal unit.

DATA DISPLAY PANELEconomical System Database Display

The Data Display Panel provides an economical means to display up to 150 digital and150 analog input points from a D20/D200. Any data point available in the database can be viewedfrom a single data display panel, and all information displayed can be scaled to engineering unitsfor easy interpretation. Using an RS-485 link, up to 16 data displays can be used to remotelydisplay information at different locations within a substation or other facility.

Easily Configured & Flexible DisplayThe Data Display Panel operates with a D20/D200 running CCU Base 1.54 and higher or D20

base 3.56 and higher. The data display is easily configured using ConfigPro software. Any databasepoint can be displayed on the data display. Each digital point can have a configured “text”description associated with the state of that digital point. For example, trip/close, raise/lower, on/off,etc. Up to seven characters are available. Each analog point can have an individual scaled engineeringunit value and a “units” description. For analog points, high and low limits can be set for eachpoint. When the point value reaches the pre-configured high or low limit, the data display indicatesthe point is in alarm by making the scaled value blink for a low alarm and reverse video blink for ahigh alarm. For digital points, the data display has two “Status Panel” screens that display latchedalarms for assigned digital points. These alarms can then be acknowledged by the “ALM ACK” keyon the front keypad. This feature is independent from any other GUI or control system currentlyrunning.
