Second, check the phosphatecontent.Phosphatehelpspreventhard-watermaterialsfromformingspotsor filmonyourdishes.Ifyourwaterishard(7grainsormore),yourdetergenthasto workharder.Detergentswitha higherphosphatelevelwillprobablyworkbetter.If thephosphatecontentislow(8.7%or less),you’llhavetouseextradetergentwithhardwater.
Yourwater department can tellyou how hard your water is. Socanyourcountyextensionagent.Or yourarea’swatersoftenercompany.Justcallandaskthemhowmany“grains”ofhardnessisinyourwater.
Howmuch detergentshould youuse? Thatdepends.Is yourwater“hard” or “soft”?Withhardwater,youneedextradetergentto getdishesclean.Withsoftwater,youneedlessdetergent.
