GOPHER DUNES RACING 4385 Hwy 59 Courtland, ON, N0J1E0 519-842-1041 [email protected] Round 6: Uncertainty for Medaglia after Ste-Julie Courtland, Ontario- The stage was set for another great weekend of racing in Ste-Julie this past weekend when Tyler Medaglia and team GDR Troy Lee Designs Powersports Canada rolled into town currently holding the 3rd overall spot in the series. After a strong showing by Tylers wife, Heidi Cooke, on Saturday at the women's National with a 1-1 OA, the stage was set for Tyler to put on a great show for the enthusiastic Sunday crowd in typical Medaglia fashion. Some small changes to the GDR Honda CRF-450R after Round 5 left Medaglia as the fastest rider on the track in Qualifying until 2 laps left when he was pushed back to P4 a few tenths off the leaders leaving Medaglia with a strong gate choice. As the action began and the gate dropped on Moto 1 Tyler's strong start left him in 4th position after turn 1 and eventually passed into 3rd however his moto would be cut short when he hooked his boot in a rut causing him to go down leaving him on the side of the track in some pain. After an attempt to get the #11 GDR Troy Lee Designs Powersports Canada bike back up on two wheels Medaglia realized his ankle was experiencing significant pain and was brought off the track by medical staff and taken to the Hospital. "Tyler’s ankle has been X-rayed and the results came back showing no fractures but their is significant damage, he has a high ankle sprain, muscle damage and a 3rd degree ligament tear" said Derek Schuster, team manager. Matt Bannon, team coordinator added "It's tough to see Tyler out of the moto and on a stretcher, he was obviously in pain but more so then that it was the sheer disappointment I could see in his eyes as Moto 1 was raging on and the realization sinking in that he was done for the weekend". Schuster added "I've spoken to Tyler a few times a day since he's been home and he's in typical great spirits as always but for now its a waiting game to see how therapy goes to find out if Tyler will be able to finish out any Nationals with the ligament tear." With the unfortunate DNF this weekend Medaglia slips to 4th spot in the overall standings 8 points behind Dusty Klatt Thank you to our amazing Sponsors!
