• December, 1845 Texas joins the United States of America (as the 28th state).
• 1845 - Hamblin Post Office (future Hot Wells) becomes a U.S. Post Office.
• 1845 – Walskin Howth Survey deeded. (Future site of Cypress Top)
Tract is immediately sold to Samuel L. Fowler, who owns it until 1856.
• 1846 – Jacob Croft, a sawmill operator, opens Croft’s Mill Post Office
(future Rose Hill P.O.)
1845 – Texas becomes the 28th State of the United States of America

1897 – A New Future for Cypress
• Abe Roberts, grandson to Abram Roberts of New Kentucky, was owner of the Cypress Top property and ran the Store.
• Abe was shot by his father-in-law, Nick Pillot, in a domestic dispute.
• The Cypress Top property was purchased by Edward F. Juergen of Waller, a business school graduate, and member of a Houston “Grocery-Business” family.
Cypress Top remained in the Juergen Family for the next 108 years!
