In response to the many fans who mourn the loss of Freddie Mercury, the Stoke-on-Trent-based group offers the very best in Queen, and QEII can be seen at the Leek New Road on Friday, February 24th, with Paul Taylor performing as vocalist, Freddie Mercury, Phil Teague (guitarist/vocalist, Brian May), Mick Durber (drummer, Roger Taylor), John Stephens (bass-guitarist/vocalist, John Deacon) and Steve

Thompson (keyboard-player/vocalist, Spike Edney).

In 1993, QEII formed to pay tribute to the world’s number one band.

The arduous task of co-ordinating lighting, image, clothes, make-up, mannerisms and (not least, by any means) the harmonies and music of the greatest band in the world.

to perfect the show - ‘The 1986 Magic Tour’.

Yes, the Hanley Road club is presenting a performance by acclaimed Electro 80’s, playing covers by such iconic names from that era as Gary Numan, The Human League, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, A Ha, OMD, Ultravox and Spandau Ballet.

The Eighties decade was a time of radical changes in both music and fashion, with (in the aftermath of the ‘punk’ revolution), daring ‘New Romantics’ embracing developing sounds and technologies to transform the music industry forever.

‘Blazing’ hits from ‘The Fredz’!!

AN awesome tribute band, recommended by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, is roaring into a Stoke-on-Trent venue this month!

Yes, Baddeley Green Workingmen’s Club is playing host to Fred Zeppelin on Friday, February 17th, as it celebrates its 19th year together.

It was 1993, when three friends (drummer, Steve Black; guitarist, Keith Jenkins; and bassist, Kevin Brown), with a mutual respect and passion for Led Zeppelin, decided to form a tribute band called ‘Fred Zeppelin’, which would create note-for-note performances of the legendary rock band’s music.

As they hit the local circuit in the Midlands (together with vocalist, Rob Bloomer), the lads performed some of Led Zeppelin’s greatest tracks and gained a following.

Following Rob Bloomer’s departure, Steve Gale was hired, and the line-up spent many years, playing individual performances

the length and breadth of the country.

In 2010, Kevin Brown decided to retire from the band and hand over his position as bassist to Elliot Gavin.

During this time, they have had the honour of Led Zeppelin’s

front-man, Robert Plant, attending no less than THREE of their gigs and John Bonham’s son, Jason, even jamming with them on-stage.

According to a readers’

poll in the music magazine, ‘Kerrang!’, Fred Zeppelin is among the top ten best live bands to see (quite an achievement as it was the only tribute band listed in any category!).

In addition, they must use full check-lists to ensure that motorists know EXACTLY what work is being carried out on their vehicles!

Questions that you should ask include: does the garage notify customers before work is undertaken, if the business does not accept particular forms of payment, and will it deal with customers’ complaints within two weeks of receiving a brickbat?

Appeal for more foster-homes in 25th anniversary year

'ONWARD and Upward': that's the motto of this much-respected organisation for 2012 - the year in which it celebrates its 25th anniversary!

What began in 1987 with a handful of people, backed by a £100 grant, has grown into a caring rescue service, helping the stray dogs and cats of Alsager and surrounding areas, earning a nonpareil reputation during the interim years.

As Animal Co-ordinator, Hilary Baxter, told Leisure Gazette, Alsager Animals in Need is living proof of the old adage: 'Great oak trees grow from tiny acorns'!

This small, but dedicated and ultra-determined, group offers shelter and veterinary care for sick, injured, stray and abandoned cats and dogs.

Should an animal coming into the care of the rescue be sick or very old, a long-term foster-home is sought (also, short-term foster-care may be available, if people have to go into

hospital).Every effort is made to trace the owners

of animals coming into care, but, failing this, once the animal is confirmed as healthy by the veterinary surgeon, the creature is vaccinated, micro-chipped and, if necessary, neutered.

"We endeavour to find a loving, responsible home for the animal, and all potential homes and owners are thoroughly vetted, prior to re-homing taking place and an 'after-care' service is offered, giving advice and support," explained Hilary.

"Over the years, the sanctuary side of the rescue has expanded enormously, and one of our main tasks now is the long-term fostering of dogs and cats in care.

"Currently, we have seven dogs and six cats in long-term foster-care.

"However, old they may be, we do anything to avoid putting animals to sleep, as long we can find responsible, long-term fosterers to come forward and provide them a good quality-of-life.

"For example, we have an old, blind cat, but there are plenty of years left in her yet.

"Our deal with fosterers is simple: if they look after our dogs and cats, we pay all the vet's bills and meet all their other costs.

"Everything is done for them, and , if they have any problems or queries, we're always here to provide support and advice."

"You have to be passionate about animal rescue, and I try to pass on what I have learnt over the years to other, younger people," added Hilary Baxter, who can be contacted for further information on (01270) 875260.

The main costs incurred are for kenneling at the boarding-kennels, veterinary bills (always very high, due to the poor state of health of some of the creatures which come to the rescue), erecting and maintaining the cat-shelters and pens at the foster homes, food, litter, advertising, hire of premises for events, running-costs of the rescue vehicle etc.

"We operate 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, and, when we are full (which we very often are), we can always point people to someone who can help them: a 'phone-call to us is never a wasted one," said Hilary.

"Unfortunately, this unprecedented demand for sanctuary is putting an ever-increasing pressure on the organisation's finances, and we are, therefore, looking for even more support from members of the general public.

"Everything we achieve is possible only through the generosity of the public, especially our loyal Alsager and district supporters.

Funds are raised through monthly and annual events, as displayed on the 'Events' page of its own website (www.alsager-animals.org), together with donations made by the supporters of the rescue.

READERS, anxious about leaving your favourite feline, as you embark on a holiday or another form of long departure, need not worry!

For, Mrs. Laurie Tindsley has the perfect answer to still your worries about the circumstances of your pet as you leave the area.

Sole owners, Laurie, launched Laurels Boarding Cattery as a ‘farm-diversification’ in 2001, and attended a training-course on cattery-management, run by the Feline Advisory Bureau; so, needless to say, her business is run to FAB standards (in addition to possessing a local authority licence).

Your feline chum will enjoy an individual, heated chalet (complete with its own run), cosy in all kinds of weather, with lots of fresh air in the runs, whilst still protected from the elements.

“There is a generous space between each run, so that a cat can see its neighbour, but there is no direct contact, and the heat in the chalet is thermostatically-controlled,” explained Laurie.

Two cats from the same household may share a

chalet, and there are family-sized chalets for up to four cats from the same household to share.

The entire cattery is enclosed within a security-passage to ensure your pet’s safety.

Laurels Boarding Cattery features a purpose-built kitchen for storage and preparation for cats’ meals.

Beds and bedding are provided, but readers are advised to bring something with which your cat is familiar to help him or her feel ‘at home’ (for instance, a personal bed, a favourite rug, jumper etc.).

Your cat will be fed twice a day with (importantly) the food which he or she is used to eating at home, and water will be available at all times.

“We cater for old and infirm cats, and medication can be adminstered and, although we don’t provide special diets (as in prescription-diets), we do feed them, if the owners bring these along; however, we are happy to offer fresh food (chicken, fish etc.) and cook it to-taste,” said Laurie.

“In case of any problems, we use your own vets, so that clients are assured of professional attention by those who you trust.

“Each feline receives individual attention, and, as a result, lots of cats come back to us, because we are familiar with them and they are familiar with us!”

In order to protect the health of all boarders, cats must be immunised against Feline Infectious Enteritis and Upper Respiratory Infections (Cat ‘Flu’).

An up-to-date certificate will be required for inspection, upon arrival, and pet-owners are requested to ensure that any injections, which are due, are given at least fourteen days, prior to boarding; in addition, all cats must be neutered or spayed.

Cat-owners are welcome to visit the cattery and inspect the premises (although visitors are respectfully asked not to touch any of its feline guests) during its opening-hours: 10am-2pm & 2pm-5pm (Monday-Tuesday & Thursday-Saturday) and 3pm-5pm (Wednesday & Sunday [plus Bank Holidays]).
