 Introducing Our New Staff…

Although you will see them in person at our Back to School Night, I would like to introduce our newest

staff members at Garden Gate:

•Michelle Smart teaches first grade this year. Last year, Mrs. Smart taught Mrs. Nucci’s class while Mrs. Nucci was on maternity leave. In addition to teaching third grade last year, Mrs. Smart volunteered as one of the Happily Ever After Theater coaches here at Garden Gate.

•Kathleen Lanza teaches second grade. Mrs. Lanza comes to Garden Gate with experience in teaching that grade level as well as working with students at other grade levels, kindergarten through fifth grade.

•Kelly Kim teaches fourth grade. Mrs. Kim previously taught fourth grade in another school

district. In addition, she substituted for quite a few years in grades K-8 before accepting full-time employment.

Mrs. Smart, Mrs. Lanza, and Mrs. Kim came highly recommended to Garden Gate and I am thrilled that

they have joined our wonderful staff. I know that you join me in welcoming our newest staff members to

Garden Gate!

Thank You to Our Volunteers from Valley Church!

This past Sunday, I had the opportunity to thank the members of Valley Church who volunteered to help

clean our campus the weekend before school started. On August 14, a large contingent of volunteers came

to Garden Gate armed with brushes, brooms, sponges, and other cleaning tools and supplies. Our campus

sparkled after their efforts. We are grateful for their efforts and their commitment of service to the

community. Special thanks to Dave Mayfield and Pat Jensen for organizing the clean up day!

HOT LUNCH ENVELOPE PROBLEMS

We are experiencing some difficulties with the way theblue lunch envelopes are being turned in to the school.Frequently, the blue lunch envelopes are coming inunsealed. Some of these have cash, including coinsand are handled by several people before ending up inthe office. We've had money missing as a result of thissince it often falls out of the envelope. Please makesure you seal the envelopes before giving them to your children. This will help ensure that your student getscredit for the total amount of money you turned in.Thank you.

For the safety of all, we need to knowwho is on the campus. The only exceptions are atstudent arrival and dismissal times. If you are takingyour child out of school for any reason, ALWAYS signyour child out from school through the office and thenback in when he/she returns.
