GeographyThe United Arab Emirates, in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula, extends along part of the Gulf of Oman and the southern coast of the Persian Gulf. The nation has an area of approximately 83.600 km2, a similar size to Austria. Its neighbours are Saudi Arabia to the west and south, Qatar to the north, and Oman to the east.

ClimateUAE has a tropical desert climate because of its location within the Northern desert belt. Summers are hot, humid and dry, with an average high around 40°C (104°F), and overnight lows around 30°C (86°F) Most days are sunny throughout the year. Winters are warm and short with an average high of 23°C (73°F) and overnight lows of 14°C (57°F). Precipitation, however, has been increasing in the last few decades with accumulated rain reaching 150 mm (5.91 in) per year. The weather in UAE can bring short and irregular rainfall as is typical for the Middle East. Most of the rainfall occurs in the December to March period. The weather between December and March remains warm and is considered as most comfortable climatic conditions throughout the year.

GovernmentFederation formed in 1971 by seven emirates known as the Trucial States – Abu Dhabi (the largest), Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al-Khaimah, and Umm Al-Qaiwain. In addition to a federal president and prime minister, each emirate has a separate ruler who oversees the local government.

Local currencyThe local currency is the dirham, which is pegged at AED 3.65 to 1 US dollar.

Dress code UAE has a dress code based on respect for the culture and religion of the country. It is not hard to follow and will make your visit/stay here a more pleasant one and will help you avoid causing any of the many nationalities here any offence. In a nutshell whilst you are out in public you should have everything from your shoulders to knees covered – which is not hard to do! You should also not wear clothing that is too tight or see through. Cleavage should also be covered as much as possible.

The Dubai MetroThe Dubai Metro is a driverless, fully automated metro rail network in the United Arab Emirates city of Dubai. The Red Line and Green Line are operational, with three further lines planned. These first two lines run underground in the city center and on elevated viaducts elsewhere (elevated railway). All trains and stations are air conditioned with platform edge doors to make this possible.

Recognized as one of the world’s largest producers of oil, Abu Dhabi, is undergoing a massive diversification of its economy and is investing in many different areas such as commerce, tourism and culture. Known as the ‘Garden City’, this quaint desert oasis was originally known as a stop on a caravan trail from the Persian Gulf to Indian Ocean but today it is a university city and an agricultural centre. Your journey begins at Hili Gardens to view Archaeological digs which date back more than 5000 years. You will then proceed to Al Ain Palace Museum to feast your eyes on fascinating displays, including a collection of family portraits that offer an insight into the way the royal family lived and entertained. Next, you proceed to Al Ain National Museum which provides an overview of the country’s traditions and culture. Further on your journey brings you face to face to camels – unique animals that have long accompanied the local Bedouins, but today, they are of immeasurable social and economic value in the region as well as a dependable source of food and milk. This journey across Six of our Seven Emirates shows the captivating blend of the both cultural and the modern sides of the United Arab Emirates. Begin with the vibrant emirate of Dubai, and proceed towards Sharjah, passing Khalid Lake, the Blue Souk and the dhow yard. Next, continue to Ajman for a visit to the Ajman Museum, a treasure trove of historical relics, followed by a photo stop outside the Sheikh Palace, and the country’s largest shipyard. Driving to the north and Umm al Quwain, you will have a photo stop at the museum, Sheikh Palace.
