How to Plan Your VisitThis booklet outlines all long-term ticketing options and recreation and youth activities registration requirements.

Find AccommodationsFinding accommodations should be your first priority when planning a visit to Chautauqua Institution.

All accommodations within the Institution’s grounds are privately owned except for the Athenaeum Hotel.

Order Gate Pass

Please ensure that your gate pass dates are the same as your accommodation dates.

• Gate Pass To enter the Institution grounds, a gate pass is

required for all guests age 13 and over. A reduced price gate pass is available for ages 13 to 25. Guests who are age 90 or older in the current year can request a free gate pass.

The gate pass is your passport to the Chautauqua Experience, giving you access to most events on the grounds. Additional purchases are not required to attend lectures or religious services, as well as popular entertainment and Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra performances in the Amphitheater. The gate pass also includes access to art galleries, beaches, parks and complimentary shuttle and tram service on the grounds.

• Opera and Theater Opera performances in Norton Hall. Theater performances in Bratton Theater.

• Amphitheater Preferred Seating Get the best seats in the house for select concerts. Preferred seating guarantees a seat in the reserved floor section of the Amphitheater on a first-come, first-served basis until the start of the performance.

Your on-grounds accommodation address is required when the gate pass order is placed.

Multiple-week discounting is offered when more than one full week of seven consecutive nights is purchased in the same transaction. The weeks do not need to be consecutive. Partial weeks are not eligible for this discount.

North and South Parking Lots

Chautauqua Institution offers a reserved parking program for property owners who: 1. have no parking at their residence; and 2. have purchased a full Season Gate Pass.

South Lot $ 325 per car Assigned Parking

North Lot $ 260 per car Unassigned Parking

Renewals: Must be purchased by March 15 to maintain parking rights.

Reassignment requests: Submit request to [email protected] by March 15. If reassigned, the original parking pass issued must be returned before the reassigned parking pass will be issued. Notification of reassignments begins May 1.

New Requests: Must be made in writing to [email protected] by May 1. Please provide contact information and the property address. Requests are reviewed in the order in which they are received. Notification of assignments begins June 5.

• Boat Sizes: Small Boat – 12 feet long and under Large Boat – over 12 feet long

• Ramps are for vessels like a Sunfish, rowboat or canoe.• Small vessels that are sharing a mooring space are

subject to one moorage fee for the shared space and a separate registration fee for each vessel.

Chautauqua Institution offers rental slip, ramp and buoy mooring in an assigned space. Vessels moored at an Institution or private dock are required to purchase and display a current registration sticker. The mooring rental period must match the dates on an accompanying gate pass.• Mooring Renewals: Must be purchased by March 15 to

reserve the prior season assignment.• Mooring Reassignment: Submit request to

[email protected] by March 15. Notification of reassignment begins June 5.

• New Mooring: Only done through the Central Dock Office. Starting June 5, contact the office at [email protected] or 716-357-6288.

Privately owned bicycles and mobility devices (scooters) must be registered. There is no charge for registration. You may register when placing your order. Registration stickers from previous seasons are valid and do not require new stickers. Registration can also be done upon arrival at the Main Gate Welcome Center. Bicycles are registered at the Ticket Office. Scooters are registered at the Information Office.

Scooter Rentals:Chautauqua Institution offers scooter rentals during the season. Scooter rentals are limited and reservations are recommended. Reservations begin June 1 for full-week rentals. A credit card deposit is required; there is a non-refundable deposit for any cancellations of rental reservations. If available, rentals for less than one week are done in person on the day of the rental at the Main Gate Welcome Center Information Office.

SPECIAL STUDIES CLASSES

Special Studies class registration begins April 10. Early registration is recommended.

Special Studies ClassesClasses in a variety of subjects, for youth and adults, are offered through Chautauqua’s Special Studies program. The diverse curriculum includes master classes with Amphitheater speakers, courses through the School of Art, School of Dance and Chautauqua Writers’ Center, and more than 300 classes in subjects ranging from computers and finance to fitness and the culinary arts.

Registration Procedures for Youth ProgramsGroup size is limited and early registration is strongly recommended. Many groups routinely reach capacity and late registrations are turned away.

Pre-season Registration (January 9–June 19)

It is imperative that you include each child’s date of birth, the grade your child will be entering in the fall (if school age) and the child’s gender. This information is needed to place your child in the correct class or group and to maintain appropriate enrollment levels. Registrations without this information will be considered incomplete and will not be processed.

In-season Registration (starting June 25)

Sundays You may register in person in the Colonnade building from noon to 3 p.m. each Sunday throughout the season. Please note: There will be no on-site registrations at Boys’ and Girls’ Club or Children’s School on Saturdays or Sundays.

Monday–Friday You may register in person, on-site, at Boys’ and Girls’ Club or Children’s School/Group One during regular program hours, beginning at 8:30 a.m. or by telephone at:

Children’s SchoolChautauqua Children’s School is a developmental preschool for youth ages 3–5. The school operates six classrooms from 9 a.m. to noon Monday to Friday.

Each classroom is staffed with certified teachers, college-age education majors, and high school students. The teachers work as a team and share classroom responsibilities.

Please note that a child must be at least 3 years old at the time he or she attends Children’s School and must be toilet trained.

Group OneGroup One is designed for children who will be entering first grade in the fall. This program is from 9 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, using Children’s School and Sheldon Hall of Education facilities in the morning and Boys’ and Girls’ Club facilities in the afternoon. Group One is intended as a transition between these two programs and includes active play, art activities, swimming/waterfront programs and special events. Children receive an orientation to both facilities during the first morning.

Group One is staffed with certified teachers, qualified college graduates, college-age and high school-age assistants. The same leaders stay with the children throughout the day. Certified waterfront staff are used for afternoon activities at Club.

Boys’ and Girls’ ClubBoys’ and Girls’ Club is a day camp program for youth entering second grade through 10th grade in the fall. Located at the south end of the grounds on the lakefront, Club provides a diverse program that includes field activities, swimming (instructional and free swim), canoeing, kayaking, sailing, nature, crafts, individual and team sports, music and experiences in the arts. As available, Club offers opportunities in science, dance, opera and outdoor education.

Boys’ and Girls’ Club is in session from 9 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Club is a registered day camp and operates under the guidelines and regulations of the New York State Department of Health.

The Boys’ and Girls’ Club staff includes certified teachers, other college graduates and adult professionals, and college and high school students. Each group is staffed with a head counselor and one or two assistant counselors. The counselor-in-training program provides skill-building and practical experiences for 16-year-olds preparing to become counselors.

TennisEight Har-Tru tennis courts are located on the Turner Community Center recreation campus. The fast-dry surface is clay-like, gives a true bounce, and is gentle on the players. Two courts are illuminated for night play.

Member benefits include free daily court fees, reduced rates for lessons and tournaments, complimentary use of ball machine (subject to availability) and discounts on selected merchandise.

The tennis season is mid-May to Mid-October (weather permitting).

Weekend and season weekend memberships are also available.

Chautauqua Health & FitnessThe Chautauqua Health & Fitness membership includes both:

• Turner Community Center (open year-round)

• Heinz Beach (during Chautauqua Institution season only; requires gate pass)

Both sites are equipped with modern cardio and strength training equipment. Membership includes access to the indoor pool in the Turner Community Center. Certified personal trainers and swim coaches are available to provide expert advice and motivation.

TerminologyLong-term Gate Pass: Length of pass includes at least one overnight stay.

Proof of Age: The birth date is required at the time of purchase. Proof of age or photo ID card must be provided upon request.

• Youth Gate Passes are for ages 13 to 25, based on the age of the bearer when the gate pass begins.

• 90+ Gate Pass requires the bearer to be at least 90 years old by December 31, 2017.

Week: A week is any seven consecutive nights. Weekly gate passes are valid from 7 a.m. on the arrival date until 10 a.m. on departure date. Extensions are subject to additional fees.

PoliciesUse of Gate Pass: A valid gate pass must be presented for scanning on each entrance to and exit from the grounds and into the Amphitheater. If asked, you must be able to produce a valid gate pass while within the grounds of Chautauqua Institution. The gate pass and its use is governed by the laws of the State of New York including Sections 170.05 and 190.25 of the Penal Law relative to forgery and criminal impersonation. The bearer of this pass agrees to obey all the rules and regulations of Chautauqua Institution. A pass that is issued to a named individual is non-transferable. Violation of said rules and regulations will cause forfeiture of all rights granted hereunder.

Commercial Photography: Chautauqua Institution, or its affiliates, may photograph, film, videotape, record or otherwise reproduce the image and/or voice of any person on Chautauqua Institution or Chautauqua Hotel Company property, and use same for any purpose without payment to any person.

Processing of an Order: Upon receipt, be sure to check the order for accuracy and contact the Ticket Office immediately if you have questions about the order. Orders without sufficient mail time will be held at Will Call.

Processing Fee: There is a $5 processing fee added to each online, phone, fax or paper order. This fee helps defer mailing costs and credit card fees.

Exchanges Refunds

Replacement (lost, stolen or misplaced)

Long-term: Gate Pass or Parking Pass

Refunds or exchanges are granted on a percentage rate versus a daily or weekly rate.

Exchanges**: These types of gate passes can be exchanged for the current season when the request is made to the Ticket Office prior to the pass start date.

Refunds**: Requests made by June 23. All requests must be made through the Ticket Office in writing with accompanying pass, prior to the gate pass start date. Refunds must be to the original form of payment.

Requests made after June 23: Requests for consideration of special circumstances will be done on a case-by-case basis when made within one week of the pass ending date. If eligible the bearer will be issued a Chautauqua Institution gift card.
