Rural Hall Garden Club

The Rural Hall Garden Club has suspended

activities indefinitely until the virus crisis has

passed. They are not currently holding

monthly meetings and have cancelled their

annual spring plant sale that is usually held

in early May. Regretfully, they will not be

able to provide the beautiful hanging bas-

kets at the main intersection this year.

If questions or interested in being in the

Garden Club, contact Ed Deal (336) 985-

5354 or Carol DeVries (336) 642-4240.

Grilling Safety from the

Rural Hall Fire

Department

There’s nothing like a hot piece of meat off the

grill in the summertime! Grilling is one of the

most popular ways to cook food, but like any

form of cooking, it can be dangerous. Any time

a grill is placed too close to something that can

burn, it is a fire hazard. Follow these simple tips

from the National Fire Protection Association for

safe grilling:

Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should

only be used outdoors. The grill should be

placed well away from the home and deck

railings and out from under eaves and over-

hanging branches.

Keep children and pets at least three feet

away from the grill area.

Keep your grill clean by removing grease or

fat buildup from the grills and in trays below

the grill.

Never leave your grill unattended.

Always make sure your gas grill lid is open

before lighting it.

information:

Citizens Club

Monthly meetings are on hold until it is safe

to meet again. When meetings resume, join

them for fun and fellowship and to meet

some new faces! Normally they meet at

11:30 AM on the first Tuesday of the month

at Kingswood United Methodist Church. For

more information or questions, contact:

Penny Dixon at (336) 934-6523.

Tips for Grilling Success This Summer!

When warm weather rolls around, outdoor grills get fired up!

Grilling is not only convenient and less mess than cooking

indoors, it is often healthier, too! Vegetables and meat retain

more of their vitamins and minerals when they are grilled. This is especially true of

veggies with a low water content. Also, when meat is grilled, excess fat cooks off and

you eat less fat.

The Food Network offers a list of tips for excellent summer grilling. The number one tip

is to start with a clean grill. You should also slightly undercook foods because they

continue to retain heat and cook a little more after they leave the grill. This is called

carryover cooking. Another great tip is do not squeeze or flatten your meat. This

squeezes out the taste and moisture! Visit the following Food Network link for more

great tips for excellent summer grilling:

grilling
