The Research

Every year E3 holds their E3 Convention and IGN continues to keep gamers informed and holds their own conventions. IGN and E3 are the place to-go-to, either via website or at convention to view and experience gaming. On the E3 and IGN websites, they release new information and videos about current and new future games on all platforms, Sony’s Playstation’s including their hand held devices, Microsoft’s Xbox’s, PC, Nintendo’s range of hand held devices and their two consoles. At their conventions, around the world, E3 lets the players really get “connected” via the large selection of gaming demos of games being released later in the year or the following year (E3 has been doing this since 1995). Currently E3 has their convention opened in Los Angeles, USA where gamers from around the world attend, as it is the largest convention that they hold. E3 advertises games and consoles as the major gaming console companies like Sony’s Playstation division and Microsoft’s Xbox division are the two main companies that pay for the largest display locations to promote their new products. A stage allocated for demonstrations and new technologic devices. Major gaming companies/developers such as Rockstar Games and Ubisoft are located in the center, where gamers head in order to experience great gaming. By promoting games, consoles and new technology, games and gamers are exposed to criticism and praise. It is crucial for all gaming related companies to spend millions of dollars on research so that games and the gaming experience can be to its fullest and no potential loss of profits are at risk. The invention of the television has not only allowed game developers and designers to create games ideally for its intended audience in a way that grabs their attention but also through the excitement of the advertisement itself.

The DevelopmentAll gaming companies develop some sort of advertising for their products, such as games or consoles. Companies like Sony and Microsoft, both have very appealing advertising posters or TV advertisements, ideally focussed on their target audience. Young people from ages 10-20 really want the visual aspect of the advert to be appealing. By adding intensive music, also makes up for the ideal X-Factor. Game trailers are very good in these areas as they can go up to any length of time, meaning that those game developers can expand and include more visual and audio techniques to outline the depth of the game. Design elements and Principles of design are very important to attract an audience. Through the use of multimedia, this becomes much easier than a poster, however they can still be as effective. An example of this can be viewed below, this example is an Ubisoft production entitled Tom Clancy’s: The Division (PS4 edition) and below that is a link to a Microsoft exclusive, Quantum Break (Xbox One edition). Both of these new to be released games are coming next year, which is fantastic. Current examples of great gaming trailers are Rockstar’s, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs. (There is a link to these also below). Console gaming TV adverts will always be more aesthetically appealing as it combines gaming experience potential and really what it can do. Below the gaming trailers, there are three other videos worth watching, these include, Nintendo, Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PS4. (PC gaming has been left out as it has various alterations of the gaming experience depending on the power of the PC).

Creation

The Forza Motorsport series is an Xbox exclusive that was first released in 2005. Forza Motorsport 6 has not been released however it will be after creating the current Forza Horizon 2. 2015 will be their tenth anniversary so that’s why I went ahead with my own cover page design, using Adobe Photoshop CS6. The Forza covers are always set on a race track with an expensive and fast, race ready car, hence why I chose the 2013 BMW M3. The golden colour used in the Forza logo is not the norm, it’s gold as this is an anniversary edition, it is usually red.
