averaging 30.5 yards on four punt returns.
AT THE HELMBarry Streeter enters his 39th season at the helm of Gettysburg’s football program and his 42nd overall at the institution. Streeter is the longest-tenured active coach in Division III and ranks second in longevity among all current NCAA football coaches. He ranks 10th among active Division III coaches with 194 wins. Streeter has led Gettysburg to three Centennial Conference championships (1983-85) and he has twice been named CC Coach of the Year. In 1985, he led the Bullets to the only undefeated regular season in school history (9-0-1) and an appearance in the national semifinals. Streeter is a 1971 graduate of Lebanon Valley and is a member of the Dutchmen’s Hall of Fame.
GETTYSBURG OFFENSEGettysburg is averaging 165.2 yards rushing and 206.2 yards passing per game this season. For the second time this season, the offensive line did not allow a sack in a game last weekend. The unit led by senior right guard Ben Bauer (New Providence, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) has allowed just nine hits on the quarterback all year. Senior quarterback Justin Davidov has posted 302 rushing yards and has scored a team-high four rushing touchdowns. Davidov is just 30 passing yards shy of his second consecutive 1,000-yard season. Five receivers have posted 100 or more yards this season with senior Ty Abdul-Karim (Washington, D.C./Woodberry Forest (Va.)) leading the way with 192. Senior Ryan Thompson (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) leads the team with three touchdown catches. Freshman Reggie JeanCharles tops all conference rookies and ranks sixth overall with 372 rushing yards.
GETTYSBURG DEFENSEGettysburg is tied atop the conference with 17 sacks this season. Junior Logan Aikey (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) leads the team with 3.5 sacks, while senior Dakota Brovero (Monroeville, N.J./Delsea) and junior Matt Graziano (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley) each have three. Aikey ranks second in the CC with eight tackles for a loss. Junior Jake Skinner ranks third in the conference with 46 total tackles. Junior safety Mike McKnight leads the conference with 11 pass break-ups – four more than any other player – and he’s tied for fifth in tackles with 43.
GETTYSBURG SPECIAL TEAMSSophomore Justin Geisel (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day School) has hit four field goals this season, three of which have gone for at least 38 yards. He is also averaging 58.4 yards on kickoffs. Sophomore Evan Tannenbaum (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) is averaging 34.9 yards per punt and has placed eight punts inside the opponent’s 20-yardline. Junior Chase Fee leads the team with 12 punt/kickoff returns totaling 218 yards.
DUAL THREATSenior quarterback Justin Davidov joined an elite club at Gettysburg last weekend. Davidov became just the fourth Bullet signal caller to post 1,000 rushing yards in a career, joining Matt Flynn ’10 (1,128), Kody Smith ’13 (1,066), and Joe Gossweiler ’05 (1,056). Davidov has also thrown for over 2,000 yards and joins the aforementioned trio as the only members of the 2,000-1,000 club.
BLOCKED KICKSGettysburg swatted a pair of kick attempts in the season opener. Senior Dakota Brovero blocked an extra point and classmate Andrew Major (St. Davids, Pa./Radnor) denied a 30-yard field goal. It was Major’s third career blocked kick and first since his freshman season. It was also the first time Gettysburg managed two blocked kicks in the same game since beating Misericordia in 2013.
ROOKIE RUSHERWith 170 rushing yards against Ursinus, freshman Reggie JeanCharles posted the best rushing day by a first-year tailback since Tom Sturges ’08 went for 180 against Ursinus on Oct. 23, 2004. The most rushing yards in a game by a Gettysburg freshman was 242 by Paul Smith ’00 against Swarthmore in 1996. Smith also holds the program record for rushing yards by a freshman with 888 in 1996. Smith and JeanCharles are both graduates of the same high school – Holy Spirit – in Absecon, N.J. JeanCharles’ 372 yards this season are the fifth-most by a freshman running back at Gettysburg.
RECOVERY MODESenior Glenn Benson picked up two fumbles last weekend against Moravian. It’s the first time a Gettysburg player grabbed two loose balls since Conor Quinn ’08 accomplished the feat against Carnegie Mellon University in the ECAC Southwest Bowl in 2007. Benson also has a forced fumble and an interception on his resume this fall.
BREAK IT UPJunior Mike McKnight recorded a career-high five pass break-ups against Moravian. McKnight already has 11 pass break-ups this season, which is the most since Nathan Smith ’05 had the same number in 2003. Andy Baribeau ’96 holds the program record for pass break-ups in a season with 16 in 1995.
IN THE ARMY NOWSix members of the Gettysburg community took the Oath of Enlistment into the Army prior to the game against Dickinson, including sophomore football player Tyrus Legenski (Glendora, N.J./Triton Regional). All of the cadets received full tuition and fee scholarships for college valued between $100,000-200,000.
