NEXT UP The Mocs remain on the road at Samford next Thursday. After a rare Saturday in January off, the squad returns home to host VMI (Jan. 22) and UNCG (Jan. 24).
HEAD COACH WILL WADE - Head Coach Will Wade is 28-22 in his second season as a head coach. He is 0-1 vs. East Tennessee State.- Wade is 21-4 at home, 6-16 away and 1-2 in neutral site contests in his career.- Wade is 15-5 in SoCon contests, 10-2 at home, 5-3 away.- Wade is a 2005 graduate of Clemson. He has worked with current collegiate head coaches Larry Shyatt (Wyoming), Oliver Purnell (DePaul), Tommy Amaker (Harvard) and Shaka Smart (VCU) at Clem-son, Harvard and VCU, respectively.- Wade’s staff includes a former head coach, Wes Long (Queens, 2009-13), former Mocs standout Casey Long (2004-07) and Brooks Savage. Savage was the Director of Basketball Ops a season ago before his promotion. Alex Wharton filled that spot with Jordan Clark (Graduate Manager), Trey Draper (Graduate Manager) and Antonio Stabler (Video Coordinator) rounding out the staff.
FOR STARTERS - Chattanooga is tied for third in the SoCon stand-ings with Mercer. The duo is 3-1, one-half game back of a virtual tie for first between Wofford and East Tennessee State. Wofford is 3-0, but the Bucs have played two more games with a 4-1 mark which is one win better and one loss worse to even the slate. The Terriers take first on style points, er, winning percentage.- The Mocs (10-7), Bucs (9-4) and Wofford (12-6) are the lone SoCon teams topping .500 play overall. The Bears (8-9) and The Citadel (7-8) are just shy and play each other Saturday.- The squad made a stop in Knoxville on the way to Johnson City at Bearden High School where Ronrico White’s jersey was retired Friday night.- Chattanooga leads the SoCon in scoring margin (+5.8) and blocks (6.2). - The Mocs (45.2%) and Western (45.1%) rank first and second in the league in FG percentage.- Justin Tuoyo paces the conference in blocked shots (3.5). - Eric Robertson is the SoCon’s top 3pt gunner at 53.3 percent (32-60).- Ronrico White is third in the SoCon in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.5 (53/21). - Casey Jones is third in rebounding at 6.5 per contest. - Tuoyo (52.7%) ranks fifth in the league in FG percentage.- Tuoyo and Jones are tied for fifth in offensive rebounding at 2.4 per game.- Jones is fifth in defensive rebounding (4.2).- Greg Pryor missed the last game due to a lower body injury. It was his first missed game after 49 consecutive starts in his career. He is listed as “day-to-day”.
BLOCK PARTY Tuoyo and the Mocs are having quite a block party this season. Here are a few highlights:- Tuoyo’s nine blocks in the home win over Western Carolina ties the SoCon record for a league matchup. He’s the fifth to do it following George Singleton (Furman, twice in 1981), Omar Roland (Marshall, 1990) and Eric Mann (VMI, 2000).- The 15 blocks the team had against Western tied the school and league record. Chattanooga had 15 against Bluefield (Dec. 18, 2002), while VMI (vs. App State, 2003) and College of Charleston (vs. ETSU, 2000) matched the total.- Tuoyo’s blocked two or more shots in 16 of 17

CREDENTIALS Outlets wishing to attend men’s basketball contests at McKenzie Arena need to contact Horten to apply for credentials. Requests should be made a mini-mum of 24 hours prior to the event.
STUDENT-ATHLETE INTERVIEWS Every Monday during the season, student-athletes are available to the media based on class schedule. Please make your requests at least 24 hours in advance.
COVERING PRACTICE UTC basketball practices are closed to the media. There are select practice during the season that are open and the media will be advised well in advance of those occurences.
GAMEDAY PROCEDURES No UTC coach or player is available to the media prior to gametime.
POSTGAME PROCEDURES The UTC locker room is closed. For home games, following a 10-minute “cooling off“ period, Wade comes to the media room first followed by visiting team coach (if requested). Selected Mocs follow the visiting coach. Visiting player availability and locker room accessibility depends on that team’s procedures.
SOCON WEEKLY AWARDS Every Tuesday during the regular season, the Southern Conference announces its Player of the Week. There is also a monthly award that will be an-nounced early in the month following the previous one’s competition.

WHAT’S IN A NAME? What’s in a name? Depends on who you ask, but as far as the references to the Mocs, the official school name is the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The preferred name is simply Chattanooga, while the abbreviated form is UTC. There is no hyphenated version (i.e. UT-Chatt, Tenn.-Chatt, Tennessee-Chatt, UT Chatt, etc.). The nickname is simply Mocs. SEASON NOTES - Casey Jones was the Southern Conference Player of the Week for December 2. For the three games that week, he tallied 18.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game shooting 64 percent (16-25) from the field and 82.1 percent (23-28) from the free throw line.- Dee Oldham is a mid-season transfer from UT Martin. Oldham, who prepped at Wilson County H.S., in Lebanon, Tenn., started 18 games in his two-and-a-half years at UTM. He is eligible after finals in December 2015 and will be a junior. He is a 6-4 guard/forward.- For the first time since 2009-10, the Mocs had a winning mark in the non-conference portion of the schedule going 7-6 topping teams from Conference USA, Big South, Northeast and Atlantic Sun confer-ences.- Chattanooga won 20 games in the 2014 calendar year. That’s the most since 22 in 2009.- The Mocs captured the Battle 4 Atlantis hosted site title beating defending Northeast Conference champion Robert Morris (61-46) and reigning Big South champ Coastal Carolina (78-67). It is the 35th “in-season” tourney win for the program since the move to DI in 1977-78. The program is 100-50 in such events.
EARLY SIGNEES - Austin Donaldson: 6’1” point guard from Jonesboro (GA) High School. Considered one of the top point guards in the state of Georgia, he led Dan Maehlman’s Cardinals to the Class 4A state title in his first season as a starter. He averaged 8.4 points, 4.4
rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. He chose Chat-tanooga over Sun Belt Conference member Troy. He was ranked No. 8 overall in Georgia by bigshots.net just ahead of signees for Xavier, Cincinnati, Missis-sippi State and Tennessee.- Trey Kalina: 6’11” post from North Cobb Christian (GA). Plays for Greg Matta, brother of Ohio State coach Thad Matta. A three-star prospect per future150.com, he ranks as No. 37 nationally at his position, 11th-best overall in Georgia. He averaged 8.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game for a 21-9 Eagles team in 2013-14. He chose Chat-tanooga after visits to LaSalle, Appalachian State and Liberty.- Lamarcus Lee: 6’2” combo guard from Scotland-ville Magnet (Baton Rouge, La.). He is the No. 15 prospect by NOLA.com/Times-Picayune. His Hornets are trying to reach a sixth straight Class 5A cham-pionship game under coach Carlos Sample. The Hornets won it all in 2012 and 2013. He reportedly received offers from VCU and South Alabama and is a two-star wing according to verbalcommits.com.- ZaQwaun Matthews: 6’4” combo guard from Myers Park High School (Charlotte, N.C.). He aver-aged 15.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest for coach Wes Hepler’s Mustangs who reached the first round of the state tournament. He decided on the Mocs over interest from Richmond, Charlotte and East Carolina. He earned Southwestern 4A All-Conference from the Charlotte Observer in 2014.
HISTORY - Chattanooga has been the dominant program since joining the SoCon in 1977-78 after winning the 1977 NCAA Division II title.- UTC has won 28 championships in 37 seasons in the league including 10 regular-season (prior to division play starting in 1994-95), eight division and 10 tournament. Davidson is second during that span with 22, 12 of which are of the division variety. - The Mocs 20 regular-season/tourney titles are far and away the most through those 37 campaigns followed by Davidson (2 reg season/8 tourney) with 10 and East Tennessee State (re-entering the league in 2014-15) with nine (3 reg season/6 tourney).- Chattanooga has won a title of some kind in 19 of its 37 years in the SoCon.- In its 94th season, Chattanooga has had a winning record 52 times. SCOUTING THE BUCS- 9-4 for the season, 4-1 in the Southern Conference.- The Bucs are 5-1 at home with the lone loss coming to UNCG...four of their five SoCon games have come at home (3-1).- Head Coach Murry Bartow is 217-155 in his 12th season at ETSU, 320-238 for his 18-year career including six seasons (103-83) at his alma mater UAB. He is 6-5 against the Mocs, 4-1 in Johnson City.- Jalen Riley leads a trio of Bucs in double digits at a league-leading 20.5 points per game. Rashawn Rembert (17.0) and Lester Wilson (14.1) join him. The trio accounts for 65.7 percent of the ETSU offense. - The Bucs lead the SoCon in zero team categories but rank second in scoring (78.5), FT percentage (74.3), 3pt FG percentage (40.3), rebounding (35.9), assists (14.0), assist/turnover ratio (1.1) and 3pt made per game (11.1).
