* DO NOT USE EXTREME PRESSURE LUBRICANTS--E.P. lubricants were compoundedprimarily for use in rear axles where unit gear tooth loads are very high and the rubbing action between the gear teeth is severe.
These oils contain added chemical compounds which, under certain conditions ofoperation, are designed to unite with the metal of the gear teeth and protect the rubbing surfaces. Extreme gear tooth loads have bees designed out” of Gallon transmissions and the use of E.P. oils is unnecessary. In fact, moat of these labricastohave certain undesirable characteristics for transmission use.
Sulphur and graphite are widely used as E.P. additives. Under certain Conditions ofsperatios, the sulphur is company with normal condensatiss of water will form corrosive sulfuric acid. Graphite, even in its purest form, must be classified as anabrasive material and will tend to increase wear when used in transmissinns.addition, the Chemical instability of such lubricants may result in heavy soap andoxide deposits inside the unit, clogging the oil passages.
The object is draining the transmission oil periodically is to eliminate possiblebearing surface abrasion and attendant wear. Minute particles of metal (the productof normal wear in service) are deposited in and circulate tb the Ii ansmisoinnThe oil changes chemically due to its repeated heating and cooling and also the terrific churning it undergoes in the presence of air. It is desirable to drain out thisused oil at least every 1000 hours of service—more frequently when operating in adusty or dirty environment. Do this only when the transmission is tirororrghly warm.
After draining, flashing is desirable. Replace the drain plug and fill the tianomisoionto the proper level with a light flushing oil. Drive the transmission tsr a short periodat fast idle in such a manner that the gears in the transmission are rotating withoutload. This washes out the old oil clinging to the interior of the gear case, covets, andshifter rails.
Be sure to drain out all of the flushing nil before attempting to refill with new oil.

HIGH TEMPERATURE LUBRICANT THROWOUT BEARING GREASE
This grease contains unusually high qualitysodium soap and is recomended for all typesof anti-friction bearings where extendedlubrication intervals are necessary.
This grease exhibits a high dropping pointto 500°F. and excellent oxidation resistanceas shown by 200 + hours in the Bomb Oxidation Test. Mechanical stability, an important property of ball and roller bearinggrease, is clearly shown by the small 5point change in penetration of these greasesfrom an unworked to a worked state.
This type grease is the choice of bearingmanufacturers for use in sealed bearingsand is especially effective in clutchthrow-out ball bearing application requiringa low torque lubricant. Its body permitsprompt channeling allowing the bearings tobe free running yet perfectly lubricatedwith a thin film of grease.

At the time of assembly, Galion hydraulicbrakes are filled with:
Wagner Lockheed Brake Fluid 21B
This brake fluid is suitable for use atall ambients to -60°F.Use a fluid that meets the followingspecifications:
The new lubrication specifications arelocated on Pages 1-4 of this section andare indicated by an asterisk (*). When theexisting quantities of the previouslyutilized lubricants has depleted, it isrecommended that the new specifications beused. When changing to the new specifications, the following procedure shouldbe practiced:
It is inrperative the new specificationlubricants not be mixed with the oldspecifications -i-a a-ny manner.
1. After the unit has been operatedsufficiently to bring the lubricantto normal operating temperature, remove drain plug and completelydrain lubricant.
2. After draining, flushing is desirable.Clean and replace drain plug and cleanfill plug area. Fill the unit to thecorrect level with a light flushing oil(See machine operator’s manual forcorrect oil levels.) Operate the unitfor a short period of time (5-10 minutes)under extremely light or no load condition. Drain ALL of the flushing oilfrom the unit while it is warm. Cleanand replace drain plug.
3. To refill, clean the area around thefill plug and fill the unit to thecorrect level with the new specification lubricant. DO NOT OVERFILLas an excessive amount will serveno useful purpose.
4. Use same level checks and drainintervals outlined in the operator’smanual for the new lubricants.
(
Note: If there is any doubt whether theunit has been filled with the oldor new lubricant3 the unit shouldbe drained and flushed. Mixing ofthe lubricants could cause damageand cannot be tok~rated.
The following serial numbers indicatefactory fill with new speiciciation:
