I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving. Most of
us find we are even busier at this time of year with our
family and our GW family. Christmas parties &
shopping, baking & grandchildren fill up most of my
time.
I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!
So last month we had a great turnout for the
OPS meetings...both of them. I want to thank everyone
for attending. Illinois has a fantastic group of chapters and leaders. This continues to give
me faith that we can grow in our participation at the chapter events and district events
along with new members. The feedback from having it at 2 locations was pretty good
and we will look into it for next year also. Right now we have only 1 date, Nov. 8th so
stay tuned for more information.
I want to thank Brian & Tammy Anderson for traveling here to explain the ARL
report and the MEC position. The district team is still asking for a volunteer for this
position. PLEASE let me know if you are even a little interested in joining the Illinois
District Team. This position sounds a little daunting but I am willing to talk to anyone and
I am very flexible and open to any new ideas.
If you have any questions on the end of year information please contact Sue
Allhands or myself and we will be happy to help with whatever you need.
This week are having our First Informational Meeting at the Palatine Inn in the
hopes of starting a "new" chapter in the area. We have a lot of members in this area and
to create a new chapter will help breath some fresh air into the Chicago-land area. Come
out and welcome the interested members and reassure them we are having FUN!

with any questions.
Has your Chapter Couple of the Year/Individual of the Year decided to join the selection process? Make sure
they have a great crowd there to cheer them on. I love this program, and we have put together a fantastic incentive
program to help with their journey as they proceed to the Region level.
Is your chapter doing a skit this year? These are always so much fun to participate in and to just watch. So glad
I am not a judge for this. Friday night is Chapter Spirit Night. Wear your chapter shirt...no vests...just chapter pride!
Come on out to play the games or watch the others play either way you are not going to want to miss this night.
Have a Merry Christmas and don't eat too much fudge!!

The Patch Lady
Everyone knows who the Patch Lady is in Illinois,
Lori Heffelfinger.
Lori has volunteered her time as the “Patch Lady” for over 10 years.
This Winter Warm Up will be her last. It is time for a new volunteer to step
up and fill the position. This position is not a time consuming position, but does
require responsibility. It requires that you place all orders correctly and in a
timely fashion. You will set up a table at the Illinois District Winter Warm Up and
at the Summer Rally to offer our members the convenience of ordering their pins
and patches. You will become part of the District team and asked to attend all
meetings when possible. If you are interested in this position please contact
Mary Adams, IL District Director

Greetings from Southern Illinois:
Happy Holidays everyone! We love Christmas and all the
blessings that it brings; family time, decorations, cinnamon smells and
fires in the fireplace, yes even in Southern Illinois. It’s also a time for
reflection on the blessings and memories made in 2013 and what a
year we have had! We enjoyed riding & socializing with our Chapter
Q friends, became University Trainers in the Leadership Training Program, and were appointed
Illinois District Ambassadors.
We have attended many Chapter and District events this year, but as our year comes to a
close it gets so quiet this time of year. Well not really, now it’s emails, phone calls, paperwork
and planning so 2014 is even better than last year! Diane and I are so proud to be your
Assistant District Directors and we look forward to visiting with all of you at Winter Warm-
Up.
Get your Chapters together so you can participate in the many activities planned at
Winter-Warm-Up; go to our website for more info, http://www.gwrra-ildistrict.com/ . Plus,
check out our new GWRRA Illinois District Facebook page.
We hope you get lots of cool stuff for Christmas and most importantly, enjoy your
family and friends and have a blessed holiday and Happy New
Year!

Uh OH! This was overheard at my house:
"I don't wanna stay inside. I wanna go out and ride my bike!!!! It's
not fair!!!!"
No this was not my child or my grandchild. This was Me! A grown
woman whining because the weather is not cooperating and I can't go for a
ride.
Unfortunately, it is that time of year again. Yes, it is now dark around
5pm. The wind gusts are to strong to ride safely. It's raining or possibly even
snowing. Heck, we even had tornadoes recently!
I know what your saying to yourself right now. "If you don't like the weather, move to another
state." Well, I don't want to move. I like living in Illinois. Besides, I don't think Mary would like it if we
moved.
So how can I get through this difficult time. Let's think about it. How about planning chapter get
together. Maybe going out to eat or just gathering to play games or watch a movie.
How about volunteering for an officer position or helping out wherever you can. That will definitely
keep you occupied. Planning upcoming events can actually give you something to look forward to.
Ok, these things could possibly work. But I still miss riding. It has been pointed out that I am a
riding addict. So for now, I will simply have to find things to keep me busy.
One of the things keeping me busy now is planning for Winter Warm Up. You will probably think
I'm nuts, but I am getting excited about the things we have planned for this event. I hope that your chap-
ter is making plans to attend.
Until next month

By now all of our 2013 Chapter Couple’s and Individuals of the Year have
received their personal invitations to the 2014 Winter Warm-Up in Springfield Illinois,
January 24 & 25. We want to honor each of our Chapters so we are asking that their
Chapter Director or someone representing their Chapter to be their escort on to the
stage for introduction of their Couple and or Individual.
We are looking for verification from Chapters: B2, C, C2, D2, G, I, N, Y, Z and
Z2. Chapters E, L, O, Q, and S have been confirmed.
There will be a lineup with Directors and their Couples/Individuals in Chapter
order at 8:45am on Saturday the 25th, prior to the selection process. Chapter
Directors will escort their Couple on the stage and introduce them, then escort their
individual for introduction. We will have escorts on standby if one of the couples or
individuals has no escort. After all the introductions have been made, the Directors and Couples or Individuals
not participating in the IL District Selection process will have a seat in the audience.
Steve and I thank all of the Chapters that are able to participate by choosing a Couple or Individual of the
Year, you are what this program is all about.
If any couple needs to update pages 4 and 5 of the resume you can go to the GWRRA National Website to
fill-in and print the Couple of the Year Resume at:
